    Modular helmets can and some have ECE ratings. They definitely do exceed DOT ratings

    Idea: buy a MX/dual sport helmet, get a matching pair of goggles, buy a 5-10$ plastic adaptor frame that you stick into the goggles, get new, cheap lenses fitted into the frame.

    when its cold and i dont want my glasses to fog up (and it isnt too dark) i just put my sun visor down, and put my clear windshield up, so that theres a lot of air flowing and circulating. it works really well, and i can hear everything in the road better. looks a little dumb, but thats a small price to pay for visibility.

    I have tried quite a few full face helmets over the last couple of months. So far the HJC i 70 has been the best one to use with glasses, that I have found.

    I could get sunglasses to fit okay, but can't get my regular glasses to fit right under a helmet. Plus like you said, don't want to bend/flex the frame and risk them cracking at a hinge, or a lens popping out. Sooo... Contacts it is. Which works great, until it's allergy season 😷😂Do you have to keep an extra vent open to keep them from fogging?

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  5 лет назад

      Ugh, allergies! 👎 In the winter and fall, it's a constant struggle with the glasses fogging up. When I'm going it's fine, even with the vents closed, but at stoplights, I've gotta keep the shield up.

    My brother ( The Digital Nothing ) has this problem, his glasses are always falling apart because he abuses them so much tho lol He ended up using his 3d printer to make a new connector in the middle because he refuses to pay for new glasses XD

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  5 лет назад +2

      I'm kinda rough on mine, too, and that's a great idea with the 3D printer (if you have access to one, and know how to use it). The cost of them has come down considerably, and I'm totally curious about how they work, and the other kinds of things they can do.

      Still haven't figured that one out. It's fine for me as long as I'm moving, but it's fog city at stoplights. Haven't figured out the secret on this one. What I get from most glasses wearers when I bring it up is "where contacts" 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  3 года назад +3

      I’ve ridden for over ten years with glasses and full face helmets. It can be annoying at times, but it’s definitely doable. But yes, contacts or laser surgery is an option if you don’t want to deal with it (and have the money).

  • @jasonshortphd

    I did buy a specific pair for riding this year. Oakley has some nice really solid side forms for sports that work well. I can leave them on while putting on the helmet.
    But I can’t get them to stop fogging up. It’s lame.
    Has anyone tried motorcycle goggles? My thinking is going to a dual sport helmet. And with goggles the breath doesn’t go to the glasses. But I have not tried it.

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  3 года назад

      The fogging of the glasses is the one thing I haven't been able to remedy. As long as I'm riding, they're fine, but as soon as I stop, it's fog city. even opening my shield, it still fogs.

    Get at least polycarbonate lenses, otherwise don't ever ever ride with the visor open. A loose stone could crack weaker lenses and blind you. Also suggest getting lenses with an anti-fog thermally applied to the lens during construction. Finally, try contact lenses. If they work for you, they're better overall in a helmet, though you'll want silicone hydrogel if you can tolerate it, for the better airflow to your eyeballs.

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  3 года назад

      Great tips! The only time I pop my visor open is at stop lights, and for my climate, the Pinlock insert has done a nice job at keeping me fog-free.
      For me personally, my eyeballs can't do contacts, but I would 100% go that route, if it were an option. Thanks again for the insight, and ride safe! 🤓👍

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  3 года назад

      Glasses off, full face helmet on, glasses back on.
      Some modular helmets will allow you to keep your glasses on while you put the helmet on, and I think most 3/4 will let you keep them on as well.

    I have found, when wearing my tin foil hat in place of a helmet, I have no issues leaving my glasses on during installation. An added advantage is, no Alien invasions or that weird probing thing they love doing. Yuck, I really, really dislike that part :( My neighbors prefer the old school leather version with goggles. They got the idea from watching old Snoopy reruns when he was battling The Red Baron.

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  5 лет назад

      Ah, good ol' Snoopy! Shark actually makes a cool helmet (the Drak) with goggles that I could wear with glasses. I tried it on, and though it seemed to work ok, the thought of dealing with basically another pair of eyewear on top of my glasses convinced me not to go that route.
