I rode motocross in my twenties and mostly on and off-road into my thirties. I recently just passed my license safety course and got a dual sport 250 Yamaha. I would say I am a good rider and one of the best ones in the class. Yesterday I went out my first day on city roads and panicked. The only thing that calmed me down was making very frequent stops for a soda and just pulling into a store. Then got home safely. So, I know what you are talking about and it is real. I think your tip of having a destination is a good one. Make a goal each time you go out and I find keeping your eyes on the horizon and not your bike helps. Become a tourist as you say. Hopefully over time I will get through this.
Time and experience is huge. It's best to keep that fear at a manageable level. Riding with fear is different than riding anxious or panicked, so good on you for making those stops when you need them. I'll be pulling for you to get those miles in and overcome your obstacles. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave a thoughtful comment. ✌🏽🤓
That's An Anxiety that's shared worldwide Brother 👍 Ride your own Ride ,Love From SCOTLAND UK
@@edwardmccafferty2618 I am doing better now. A lot more confidence. I got a bluetooth system for my helmet and that really helped.
I have fear riding but when I get on I’m a whole different beast 😂 I love itt
definitely I commute to work almost daily on my motorcycle and take the same route there and back and then I have a second route I can take in case there's an accident or traffic, but planning ahead and knowing where you are going helps out alot
Planning is huge. Of course, it's really easy to take a detour on a nice day and you don't want to stop riding 🤓
It isn't just new riders. I've been on bikes my whole life and I'm old. Never had a real wreck. But people are out here browsing tiktok while driving now. It is scary when you can't stop imagining the worst case scenarios.
Good advice. But I was thinking if they that scared why did they get bike to start with . But then again I see what you getting they been riding in parking lots. But can not get over the hump of getting on the highways . May could take baby step like just around you subdivision keep going farther each time. I been riding most of my life I still get A little anxiety if going to new place and maybe it Excitement . Night before the trip I can't sleep
That's a good point. Why ride, if you're scared? When you learn anything new as an adult, I think that fear can be a factor. So, when you're asking someone who has been rolling around in a cage for decades, who wants to learn to ride, to go out and do 70mph surrounded by cars and big-rigs, it's intimidating. Before long, though, that fear and anxiety turns into excitement. And, I'm the same way. If I know I'm going to do a big ride the next day, I have trouble sleeping. 🤓
@@thatoneguymoto yep
I commute everyday in the UK even if its heavy rain its all about getting used to it. Too much adrenaline will tense you up thats not what you want in an emergency situation.
Excellent video, Thank you from a new rider from Scotland UK 👍
You're welcome, and thanks for the compliment. Ride safe! ✌🏽
Yeah total gent you are sir ,I am a veteran of the British Army ,who has served Abroad as a coalition with US Troops ,But For some Reason I feel A Different kind of Fear on A Motorcycle ,Can't Explain it ,But it is A Good Fear And Enhanced By Paranoia ,Your Video was Very Helpful to me ,It's Almost like going Back To Basics ,ie You Have no Rank structure There To Advise you ,What you should Be Doing ,It,s Just you And a Two wheeled Machine ,And it's About implementing some of those Disciplines learned ,to ensure you Arrive on the Driveway as safely as you Departed from it ,keep up the Good work ♥️👍
I'm Not taking a MSF course for two reasons. 1, my state dont recognize them for getting your MC endorsement (it has it's own state run training) 2 The basic course in my area cost 300 dollars which I cannot afford. The state run course cost 100 dollars if they provide the bikes and only 25 dollars if you use your own bike. I'll be using my 150cc scooter as I have zero desire to operate a clutch and shifter. Problem is, I may have to wait 6 months to a year wasting money on insurance because the course is over for this year.
Oooo, six months? That's rough. 🤓 MSF has gotten more expensive, so that's too bad. Mine was just under $200 (I think), but that was back in 2009. Whichever way you go, best of luck to you and ride safe! ✌🏽
First, lol. It's also my first day riding since November. It's gonna be 50 deg. In CT. Great vid,
YAAAAAAAY!! And, oooo, I'm sure that will feel like a balmy 50*! 🤓
This is sort of where I'm at. I'm fine riding on the street, but still hesitant to go on the highway. I live in NYC and I don't trust drivers on the BQE even when I'm in a car. Waiting until I'm a little more nimble on the streets and comfortable with looking in my mirrors and signalling to switch lanes.
Can't even imagine riding on NYC freeways, or LA freeways for that matter. Best of luck to you and ride safe! ✌🏽🤓
Yup, that was me.
I can do 38 mph on my 26 inch wheel ebike but I can't do over 20 on my 150cc scooter with 10 inch wheels (16 diameter with tire) It feels totally different, it feels way too fast.
I really does. I have had my bike for a few months now, and 16 on my bike feels like I'm whipping it, then get in a car and 16 feels like a snails pace
Glad you did this video. I have had my bike for a few months and riding around a parking lot practicing I super comfortable, but then when it's time to go home and I have to ride in traffic I get nervous and still at red lights or brake too soon, etc. What you think causes that?
I think it's just human nature. You feel like everyone's watching and there may be people watching you, so the pressure is on. I'd suggest finding lower traffic areas where people aren't going to freak out if you kill it at a stoplight/sign. Get some practice under your belt on the street. Eventually, with enough time, you'll be comfortable and the nerves will go away. Best of luck to you and ride safe! ✌🏽🤓
@@thatoneguymoto awesome. I will! I live near a busy street, so I'll venture out to quieter neighborhood. Thanks!
I have a fear of NOT riding. What if I forget how to, after all this snow finally melts.
I know you meant this as a joke, but forgetting how to ride was a real thing for me (you may have inadvertently inspired another video 🤓). So, I bought my first bike, and ended up having to sell it (to pay for a shoulder surgery), and my biggest worry was forgetting how to ride. I went about a year before buying my next bike and was pretty anxious that when I took my test ride, that I would not remember how to ride. For those who have ridden for years and years, it's not a big deal, but that fear of forgetting was a very real thing for me.
