You should do one on Panpsychism and Solipsism. They are basically the same thing. My question to solipsists is "Why can't you be like Neo in the matrix if you're awakened to the fact that everything is just imaginary, shouldn't you be able to fly and stuff?"
I had a coworker who believed in god... In the hardcore way. One day she started going off one day about how animals don't have souls. My internal monologue was going insane. If you can believe humans are "better" beings than an animals, you got something wrong. Don't know exactly what happens after death, though I'm Athiest, if humans have souls or spirits, Animals have them for SURE.
Exactly. I don't believe in souls, but I think it's naive to treat our species so differently from the many others, just because we're highly evolved. I suppose some people might not use that phrase, if they don't believe in evolution, despite much proof of it existing. I suppose they'd call us InTeLlIgEnT DeSiGn. Anyway, my point is, all species have some things in common & we have many similarities with animals. We live, breathe, eat, drink, reproduce, communicate, but for some reason they don't have sOuLs, just because they haven't written books about it etc.? Idgi. I just think it's a nice concept, but it was created by someone one day & will always be kind of incomplete & far fetched, as this video highlights. It hasn't been thought through. Authors of religious text just left that part out, other than an ill-thought out loophole or disregard & the part about the dinosaurs, too. I mean, the real reason is religious text & religion is all so centred around humans. A reflection of us & our nature. God is like a big, powerful version of man. He even supposedly created Adam in his likeness. It's very self-centred. We are not animals, (per se) therefore there's not much in there about them. Older religions were more interesting, like the Egyptian ones where they pretty much worshipped animals as Gods.
@@solongsuicide9 Oh, I'm of the mind that we are animals. Just highly evolved ones, but no different, as you said, in function beyond evolutionary things. Like, just because we cant speak the verbal language of animals, doesn't mean we cant communicate. This shows animal instinct. When cats or dogs show different body language we know "good" or "bad" instincutally. We also have remnants of animal parts, like tails at the base of our spine. Unless you're asserting that we are no longer animals because of our ability to call ourselves something else? Actually, I shouldnt say they dont communicate verbally... Dogs know commands, and cats specifically meow for human benefit, lol. Anyway yeah you're right though. There is no reason to assume animals don't have going on exactly what we got goin on inside our minds, just without way to communicate or express it.
wow, such a person would trigger me big time. never heard about a real K-9 hero? a therapy dog? a guide dog for blind people? the idiot! if the soul is a gizmo for goodness and beautiful feelings, dogs and many other animals have it. dogs for sure.
Istvan Sipos The great American author, philosopher and humorist Mark Twain wrote these words: " If getting into heaven was a matter of merit my dog would go first and I would go last. "
István Sipos there are many wonderful dogs in the world, the term “hero” is aptly applied, but they don’t have souls, and people don’t have souls, because souls don’t exist. Why not allow for goodness to exist on its own terms, why complicate things with an artificial construct like “soul”? I especially don’t like it because of the implication that people (and animals) with “bad” souls cannot change their behavior.
The weight loss after death is real. It is also true that this does not happen with dogs (which was taken as meaning that dogs don't have souls). What happens is that many parts of the brain continue to function after the higher processes have ceased. So chemical reactions are still going on and producing heat, and the blood is no longer circulating, and the person is not breathing to get rid of heat, so body temperature starts to rise. The autonomic nervous system registers this: and turns on the sweat glands. That's the cause of the lost weight: evaporating sweat. And dogs sweat only through their tongues, and with the mouth closed after death, that doesn't evaporate.
This theory was never confirmed because they didn't have anything that is monitoring everything in the body. U don't know if it's something else that is lost like maybe it was just gas.
@@Dragonblaster1 ok. It could be a combination of things maybe 🤔 I mean how long does it take to lose that much sweat right after death? U know if ur findings aren't 100% people r gonna say "ha! It was the soul!" U gotta corner them good!
The age of an idea is not a strike against it, as long as it has not been falsified yet. Your calculator uses a method of determining square roots by successive division of a number, and averaging the divisor with the resulting dividend and re-using that average as the new divisor until the two converge, therefore creating two equal sides of a square which signifies the square root! This method was already known by the ancient Babylonians, 4,000 years ago, and is still not beat!
@@Dracopol Where in my comment did I say that age makes an idea out-of-date and therefore wrong? Aristotle was right about a some things and wrong about other things. So were many philosophers and scientists in the past. My point was about souls (read De Anima by Aristotle for context) and how our knowledge of the human consciousness has vastly grown since his time.
When you talk about a "hight/tall gene" That's a good argument against homophobic people "Your not born gay there is no gay gene" "Well I wasn't born 6 foot tall and there is no hight gene does that mean hight is a choice and not genetic"
@@PraiseTheFSMonster that's kinda the point But there isn't a single hight gene And If you bring up the link between homosexuality and genetics a lot of the time homophobic people will say that there is no gay gene
I am a medical translator and studied the 21-gram experiment extensively, I even wrote an article about it (I will not link it, because it is written in a different language). I'll summarize the main flaws of that experiment, which shows how scarcely scientific it was: 1. The sample only included 6 subjects, an insufficient number. 2. The data relative to these subjects is incomplete. We only know if they were men or women and, for five of them, how they died. We do not know how old they were, nor are their vital signs reported... Not even their weight is specified! The doctor simply wrote the weight difference before and after death. 3. This experiment could not be repeated for the same subject, since you only die once, therefore in many cases we cannot exclude that the result would have been the same, had it been repeated; a large number of subjects would have been important also to lower this uncertainty to a minimum. 4. The doctor made a series of mistakes using scales, as he "honestly" admitted. One could question, at this point, if the results he measures were accurate or not. 5. The scales he used were not really precise, the uncertainty margin on each weighing is very large. 6. The doctor deliberately ignored the data relatve to a subject, because it was in contrast with his ideas. This is cherry picking. 7. No further study has ever been conducted to confirm the findings of this study. 8. The moment of death was not clear at that time. Indeed, there was not even a clear definition of when death occurs: is it cerebral death? When the heart stops beating? 9. The method is badly described, therefore the experiment is not reproducible. This is just a short summary, I could go on for ages...
I've had an out of body experience just having a blood sample taken while sitting up and it actually proved to me by it's self that they're fake. You see, when I went into the hospital I didn't know where to find the lab to take the blood sample so I just went in the front entrance and asked for directions at the desk. On my way to the entrance I passed by two sides of the building and the outer walls were made of brick, that will be important later. The room where I had the blood sample taken had a window behind the chair I was sitting in with the needle in my arm and they needed five samples of blood which they were taking one at a time, all with one needle. About the time they started taking the second sample I passed out and immediately I was floating outside the window behind my body but it was my body floating outside the window behind my physical body. I could feel the sun on my back, I could feel the breeze and I could smell the fresh air. I distinctly remember looking through that window from the outside seeing that I was a floor off the ground, floating, looking through that window in the brick wall at my body when suddenly I zoomed forward without control and my "soul" body slammed into my real body and as I woke up my body jolted forward and it really felt like my "soul" body had propelled my real body forward by sucking back into it. Now that felt very real and it left me wondering. In many people it could surely have been easily enough to be convinced of a genuine supernatural experience but you have to understand that from a young age, I have always had an ability to dream very vividly and have often experienced physical touch as well as smells in my dreams so from the start it seemed debatable to me... until the next time had to have a blood sample taken and I went into the building through the lab entrance which is right next to the lab - which is at ground level and doesn't have brick walls outside and never has. The whole experience was constructed by my brain because it didn't have enough blood inside it to run my body and keeping me calm would allow others a longer opportunity to insure my blood flow is focused back to my brain before I bleed to death because the biological mechanism which triggers this reaction can't tell the difference between taking a blood sample and bleeding to death.
"keeping me calm would allow others a longer opportunity to insure my blood flow is focused back to my brain before I bleed to death" It's much simpler than that: when you faint you fall to the floor, your brain is at the same height as the rest of your body, making it a lot easier for your heart to pump blood to the brain, thus increasing your chances of survival. " because the biological mechanism which triggers this reaction can't tell the difference between taking a blood sample and bleeding to death." You faint because of stress and anxiety. The amount of blood you lose during a bloodsample is not remotely enough to make your brain shut down due to bloodloss, that doesn't even happen when people donate blood, and they lose an order of magnitude more than you do when a sample is taken. But your story is perfectly valid and on-point: a near-death experience is something that happens when the brain is _not_ working properly, it allways happens when the person is not conscious and often happens when the brain is in a known state of losing oxygen, blood or whatever, it is "near death". Also: being "near death: is not the same as "being dead" so I don't see how a "near death" experience tells you anything about being dead. Being in Belgium doesn't tell me anything about being in France even though the two are very close.
@@vinny142 You're surely right that a blood sample isn't enough to trigger this reaction in a healthy person. I'm still not sure what triggered it in me but I doubt it was just stress and anxiety (although I'm not ruling out their contributions, I don't like needles). At the time I had a tendency for anemia which, along with my tendency to faint during blood samples, reduced as I had more blood samples taken over a relatively short period of time. I haven't been tested for this yet but my dad had similar problems from hemochromatosis which are solved by regular extraction of blood to reduce the blood's iron content.
Your experience does not invalidate other people's who have been pronounced dead and then were brought back to life. For one thing, you were not pronounced dead. For another, your body was not being electrically monitored as were other people in scientific studies of near death experiences.
@@sjo9292 Oh and, by the way, what exactly do you consider a scientific study? I suppose those "scientific" studies you refer to were done at the creation institute. You see I've heard of scientific studies on the matter, I've never heard a scientist claim NDEs are valid.
@@Where_is_Waldo I found the research you requested about near death experiences. These studies were conducted with participants who were hospitalized and under professional medical care at the time of their death; they were published in peer-reviewed journals, meeting necessary research standards: There are four significant peer-reviewed studies that provide meaningful, verifiable evidence of the survival of human consciousness after clinical death, strengthening the case for the transphysical nature of NDEs: 1. The studies of Dr. Sam Parnia (2014) A 4-year study of 2,060 patients with cardiac arrest found 9% of the survivors (185 patients) had an NDE; an additional 30% (618 patients) had some sense of postmortem consciousness and maintained visual awareness for up to three minutes after cardiac arrest. 2. Dr. Pim van Lommel (2001) The science of near death experiences was started in earnest by this longitudinal study of the near death experiences of 344 cardiac patients in ten Dutch hospitals. It found that 62 adult patients (roughly one out of five) experienced an NDE with some typical characteristics. No patients reported distressing or frightening NDEs. 3. Dr. Kenneth Ring (2006) Specifically studying the NDE experiences of the blind, Dr. Ring found their experiences conformed to the classic NDE pattern (it did not vary whether the patients were born blind, had lost sight later in life, or had minimal light perception). Additionally, 80% of 31 blind respondents claimed to be able to see during their NDEs or OBEs (out of body experience). 4. Dr. Janice Holden (2007) The Holden study is a compendium of 107 cases in 39 studies by 37 authors in which 37% of the cases involved veridical (verifiable) details reported in the NDE experiences. Collectively, these studies examined the experiences of over 3,500 patients. It should be noted that there are many other careful studies that corroborate and extend their findings: Basford 1990, Fenwick & Fenwick 1995, Greyson & Flynn 1984, Roberts & Owen 1988, Sabom 1982, and Zaleski 1987. Additionally, Dr. Bruce Greyson and Dr. Emily Kelly have made longitudinal studies of near death phenomena (with control groups) at the University of Virginia’s Division of Perceptual Studies (in the Department of Psychiatry in the School of Medicine). In general, purely physical explanations (see Chapter 3) do not account for the three kinds of verifiable evidence revealed in these studies. Read more at blog.magiscenter.com/blog/nde
My epilepsy presents as an angel. Well, I think she’s an angel. She has a sweet face and curly hair. This is what I see before I have a seizure. It’s the aura. When I see this face, I know I’m going to have a grand mal seizure. When I have the seizure, if I didn’t wake up....I’d not know anything about it. I’m not there for the time my seizure lasts. This is what I believe death is. You have no conscious awareness of it at all because you’re dead. My brain has no control over the electrical impulses and a storm happens which disables my brain.....and I am just gone. It’s much worse for the people that see the seizure in terms of stress than it is for me. I don’t know what is happening. It’s a scary thing to watch, especially if I’ve injured my head, which happens and heads bleed more than other places. When you die....you don’t know you’re dead as you’re not aware of anything. It’s true.
You have my deepest sympathy for your serious medical condition; I saw people having seizures a few times. Have you heard of the ketogenic diet? It was found to help control seizures in children a long time ago before all kinds of medications were created.
Basically it is an extreme low-carb diet that forces your body to live on ketones (think clean-burning fuel) rather than glucose (dirty burning fuel). Two names to check out on RUclips: Dr. Berg (nutrition specialist) and Dr. Boz (M.D.).
This is literally one of the most beautiful things that I have ever read. Like, the truth of it. The rawness of it... Thank you for sharing your experience.
Even if a "soul" does exist, it doesn't mean there's a creator. It could be that we just exist with the expansion of the universe, we're just entities of universe energy/dust.
It had to come from someone our heat beats because god gave us the breath of life...I feel for non-believer's believing in Satan's lies... rather you like it or not you're believing what Satan wants you to hear making y'all think he and god doesn't exist...one of these days y'all going to wish you had believed in god mark my words because you are going to remember it for eternity...
@@mrspook7393 "It had to come from someone" that is blatant anthropomorphization. Just because our perspective is that of purpose and meaning, doesn't mean the universe is. Saying it "had" hasn't been established. There is no evidence that complex systems must arise from some thinking entity. In fact, there is evidence (just about everywhere) of emergent complexity (complex systems arising from simpler ones functioning together).
now, please, give the world at least 1 piece of evidence for 1 of your claims. till then, how can satan make us believe if there is a good AND almighty god? with a good AND almighty god, satan couldn't even exist, let alone run his evil corruption business. so is god good OR almighty? because if you insist on both adjectives, the god definition defeats itself. the fact that you cannot present a single piece of evidence for god, is just some additional fun in this story
And even if there was a creator, it doesn't imply that souls exist or that an afterlife exists. Neither does it mean said creator has to be omnipotent or still alive.
Wirr Ling god doesn’t torture. I’m not a believer, but to say that is just ignorance of the religion. He basically just created this world and allowed us to live in it
That’s an argument I’ve heard quite a lot from Christians. That is “Where do you think we go after you die?” As if it’s a given that anything at all happens to us and that The Bible conclusively answers that question,
Dear Friend, I choose to believe mainly because I communicate with God in prayer, and by living God’s commands I do the greatest good for my neighbor and I receive a peace the world cannot give. I live in hope of eternal life with God. Bodily death is only a passage; the real death or life is afterwards. I could choose to disbelieve, but that takes faith also, since God’s existence cannot be disproved. I would be free from living God’s commands and free to commit sin, but that would not give me peace or the hope of eternal life.

I think a video on the hard problem of consciousness would be a great follow up. While I am basically an Atheist, the fact that somehow unconscious(?) stuff produces a subjective experience is something I find mind boggling and fascinating.

God communciated with many people through their subconscious dreams: Saint Joseph, foster father of Jesus, Daniel and several of the Old Testament prophets. Prayer is a door to the subconscious.
I'd say the soul is just the abstract of ourselves, and that the soul is just electrical and chemical ; like we are a computer making decisions, I mean imagine if we made an AI, it too would have a soul.
Several times I have died. The longest I was dead was about 15 minutes before someone doing CPR brought me back. There were no lights or any of that junk. As I died everything faded to nothing. Then I was back quick to everything. The first time I just turned 3 to escape child abuse. Does that mean my soul went to hell? and I am still here? From my experiences there is nothing after we die, we are just turned off.
Hmm. Are there people out there who still believe in the archaic concept of the 'sol', i.e. soul? Seems too simplistic a concept, and way too easily moulded by the physical properties of sensory perception, our main tool of cognition. If the so-called soul actually exists, then it would be nothing like holyrollers say it is, and may not even be something separate from the matter composing the physical body. And Heaven and Hell? Unnecessary considerations.
What's more, it's actually the first significant line Homer ever said. It's from the first scene of the first Simpsons short on the Tracy Ulman show, "Good Night". Bart, at bedtime, asked him "Dad, what is the mind? Is is just a system of impulses, or something tangible?", and that was the answer he gave.
I'm autistic, and I don't know what people mean when they talk about souls or a conscience. I've never had this guide voice in my head that so many people say they have. I grew up raised as Christian, but the whole idea has never made sense to me. We need long term hospitals again, I want to be in a hospital but they always kick me out after 5 days. I aswell as my family has paid thousands of dollars for short term hospitalization. I need something long term I don't understand what is going on right now.
Dear Friend, Your Pastor's comments are not supported by Scripture. Matthew 7:13-14 gives us the words of Our Lord in the Sermon on the Mount: “Enter in at the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are they who go in by that way. Because narrow is the gate and narrow the way which leads into life, and few there are who find it.” I choose to believe mainly because I communicate with God in prayer, and by living God’s commands I do the greatest good for my neighbor and I receive a peace the world cannot give. Anesthesia wouldn't work if we had souls. We'd never be able to go unconscious. Brain damage wouldn't effect us. We'd also never become mentally fatigued.
The funny thing is that deeply skeptical people make all the same mistakes when assessing this subject that believers do, in that they both approach with a predetermined answer in mind and will twist all evidence to suit that. A lot of what you said in this video falls into that category. A skeptic will insist that they are merely being scientific yet fail to see that a scientist MUST approach each subject with total objectivity otherwise there is a tendency to skew the results, and even the questions, which is exactly what I've seen happen here with some of the questions you asked. Anyone who holds a bias and then seeks to "research" is merely seeking to confirm their bias, which is something that both sides do. The truth is somewhere between the two camps, but it always seems to be viewed as one extreme or the other.

I'm not excusing MacDouall, but, in fairness, MacDougal did not publish his results initially. He knew his experiment would not stand up to any kind of peer review. I believe Wikipeida mentions that his results didn't become known until 1907. At that time an article appeared in the New York Times which forced him to make his results known. It's thought someone from the sanitarium spilled the beans, so to speak. I believe someone wrote about MacDougall's experiments with dogs in which he claimed there was no loss of weight. It just disturbed me to think that crackpot was killing dogs for this nonsense. I guess MacDougall disproved the existence of doggie heaven.
Ken Welch That is a beautiful sentiment, and I agree with you. I have had dogs that I loved, respected and trusted more than most of the humans I have known or know. There is no cunning or guile, resentment or revenge, hatred or haughtiness in these wonderful creatures. Human beings harbor all of these characteristics - some work a lifetime trying to manage them, othersignore them entirely and remain toxic, unhappy people for the duration of their lives.
What I don't get is, how can some Christians who believe the creation story to be a myth and accept evolution theory still claim only humans have a soul that can ascend to heaven. How and when did humans "evolved" to have a soul? As always, great video!!

Imagine this, if we dont have souls, and you would clone yourself, you would get an exact copy of yourself, with an exact copy of your consciousness. What would then happen if you died? The clone with the exact same body and consciousness would still live on and everybody would think that its you, but it isnt you since you died and you cant experiense anything of your clones consciousness. When you think about this you feel that something is just not right. Thats because we are a soul in a human body. The soul is eternal and cant be cloned.
Your videos are incredible, from the historical ones to the philosophical ones to the ones which point out the importance of consistency, curiosity and compassion. I also love the animation and music and appreciate how much you put in. Thank you so much! This is definitely going in my playlist for questioning pseudoscience and antiscience/religious indoctrination.
Look it's like moving home. Your soul goes to heaven (or hell) or any other fancy place - but like every moving home situation, you simply don't get all your personal stuff in one car. So you have to come back for the rest. Simple as that.
I still retain their is something metaphysical. Apes share roughly 99% of our DNA, but we as humans are so different. For starters, we do more than just survive. We have morality, we take care of the poor, the sick, the deformed etc. This is in no way beneficial physically to our species, yet we consciously decide to do it. We have a language, a uniquely human thing. Tom Scott did an excellent video about it. We have art, music, and introspection. Perhaps these things are also physical, but I am inclined to believe they aren't as no other physical being comes even close to demonstrating them. Also, you skimmed over this, but how was an out of body experience triggered? People that have had them claim that they have seen things that their eyes have no physically seen, and they were right. So how does that work?
No one addresses this better than Matt Dillahunty. He rightly says that no other concept in religion is as easily refutable as the concept of the soul (paraphrased) because of recent knowledge gained from various neuro experiments, etc. I don't want to misquote or screw up what Matt says about it, so my recommendation is to go to those episodes of The Atheist Experience and listen to what he says yourself.

It's so weird because this makes so much sense but then at the same time everytime I close the blinds they are open the next morning and I can't go out into my kitchen when it sounds like someone else is using it.
I'm not religious, but I do believe in spirits. I had many experiences as a young child. I've only been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and panic attack disorder in these past 40 years. No diagnosis regarding hallucinations. I've had a few brain scans, as well, with no problems present. It all stopped as I got older, unfortunately. But there's never been a logical explanation for what I experienced nearly every night. So, since then, I've been very spiritual. But, of course, I could be wrong.
Some people who suffer similar things as you receive help by listening to Gregorian chant when trying to fall asleep: ruclips.net/video/p_shhU_H5Z0/видео.html If this helps, let me know. Peace and prayers.
So as a child you were and most likely still an uneducated gullible simp and suffer from all these mental problems so that means spirits are really? How often do you drool in yourself?
I have created spiritual experiences with trance meditation, it's almost like a greater entity is giving you calm feelings of content, when in reality it is probably the mind.

I choose to believe mainly because I communicate with God in prayer, and by living God’s commands I do the greatest good for my neighbor and I receive a peace the world cannot give. I live in hope of eternal life with God. Bodily death is only a passage; the real death or life is afterwards. I had the mental image of the soul being sort of the flight data recorder of the body that survives the " crash" of death. One theory I heard is that your intellect, personality, and everything else that makes you an individual resides outside your body, and the brain is sort of a receiver/remote. A head injury might damage the receiver, limiting how the soul can control it .like a damaged phone that can't access the 'net but you can still text with. That is truly creepy if you think about it. To be aware, but unable to communicate clearly would be a true type of hell. I don't know if a soul exists or not. Quantum physics allows for some weird stuff...maybe some part of you survives after death . I hope so.

Thank you so much for this video! I watched this documentary with 2 other girlfriends of mine 10 years ago, and they all were amazed that this is a proof that soul does exist, and I didn't believe it of course but I didn't know how to prove it to them, so instead I just left room angry.

Can you describe what is the cause of feeling of "Me"? If everything is so simple, then how can you define that you are feeling yourself as "you" and not any other body? Without soul how can you feel that "self" feeling like it's me, my body. What will happen when we die? How would we feel? Everything stops. Because consciousness gets gone. But how can you explain the feeling of self, the feeling of "I", what happens to that either when we die? I really seek answers, because I am getting nervous and feeling caged inside.
I just got a commercial at the start of your video trying to sell me Alabaster personalized Bibles for my family for christmas. They really need to do a better job with their market research and demographics.
I just found your channel, I've watched 3 or 4 so far and subd so thank you love the vids. I went the opposite direction, I was a believer in God, bible, not a thumper, but still believed. Make a very long story short I had an accident one fine day and died 3 times on the way to the hospital , each time only for under 5 min. After that I no longer way a believer. Yep had a most wonderful experience, life changing, no Jesus no tunnel, but something happened that was wonderful but I'm not going into detail here, but I no longer believed, I do believe in a connectedness of energy of all, after all we are exchanging atoms with everything thing around us constantly. And that's it. I could write a book on my experience, but people would take it one way or another and use it probably badly. When people ask u say don't worry you will know what I know one day, di'nt be in such a hurry to know, enjoy here today cuz it's great, when you die you cab enjoy that then.

Wow, you proved there are errors in a over 100 year-old experiment that nobody uses for evidence of anything. You convinced me. Written in sarcastic font.
What about Penfield’s studies of the brain? If there is no controlling mechanism to the brain, which you are clearly implying by reporting souls are not probable, why then could people tell the difference when their brain was being activated externally to induce arm movement? In theory, we all willfully act. The brain cannot operate without something controlling it internally. This may not prove a soul exists but it must certainly be considered. Also, I have no recall of events before age 7, does this mean I did not exist then? If in a closed system, energy cannot be destroyed, what happens to the willful energy that controls our brain and body after death? You need to refute Penfield, which is not easy to do, if you are going to imply there is no controlling mechanism or soul involved in our existence.

I define the definition of the soul as biological software. Think of it this way. You have a computer and you can install stuff onto it, you can replace the operating system, even remove software. The physical computer itself doesn't change. Souls exist just as much as computer software exist or as much as mathematics exist. You can't hold them in your hands but that doesn't mean they don't exist or have no influence on the world.
As a Christian, I believe that the soul exists, whether or not we can perceive it. (Physical impairments) I believe that it’s why despite being raised the same with a small age gap, my sister and I are dramatically different in nature.
What is known about consciousness? I read about how researchers thought they were close to knowing more about what consciousness really is, but then they found out about a person whose brain was severly damaged, including the part where the researchers thought that consciousness existed.
I mean, the brain's plasticity can sometimes allow people with damage to one region to repurpose another for the same task. It doesn't always occur, but it can and does happen.
@@HolyKoolaid Thanks for replying. I learned about parts of the brain being repurposed when damaged. And by learned I mean reading articles, TV programs, etc... If I remember correctly, I think the person's brain was so damaged that it only had vital functions left, but the person retained their consciousness. It was very interesting.
The troubled issue I see with religious people and atheist is they are both debating from the same framework of ignorance and neither of them know what they're talking about.
Far as I can tell soul is just a word for consciousness, except for the implication it is somehow separate from the body. It's not entirely surprising to me that the human experience would feel a little, seperate from the body at large, because the part of my brain that calls itself "me" doesn't have full control. Far as I understand "we" are the problem solving part of the central processing system coordinating our individual cellular colonies. "We" can be turned on or off by the body if deemed unrequired. We're nature's self aware AI
I can prove that the mind and body are separate. Consider this argument (modus tollens): 1.) If your mind and your body are not separate, then it would not seem possible that you (your first-person consciousness) could have had another body, such as having a body of a dog or a dolphin. 2.) It does seem possible that you (your first-person consciousness) could have had another body, such as having a body of a dog or a dolphin. 3.) Therefore, your mind and your body are separate.
The..."soul" is one thing; the brain is another. Our memories are in our brains how can a "soul" carry the memories?!!!! Beliiveing we have a soul is just a denial of our limited time we exsist!
Holding certainty in either direction is ignorant. We really have no idea if death is the end of all forms of existence. when you really explore subjectivism we cant even be certain that anything is real other than the fact that we are thinking agents.
Honestly it’s hard to define was a soul is. Some people consider it just your conscious being (like myself) and some consider it a plastic and physical object outside of our understanding. Something hard to disprove or prove. What is interesting though is just the concept of consciousness in general
Memory’s are physically stored so if the brains damaged then the memory’s are gone. The soul is just energy, not the same you, just what powered you and it will return to the universe redistributed.
WHAT THE FUCK 🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 bro it is not a fictional word it does exist you just don't believe because you think differently you don't believe in god you think he doesn't exist and you don't have any goodness in you and you doesn't even understand that all living beings have body and spirit, all living beings like the humans, animals and insects are spirits in evolution that live in bodies and have a mind that creates memories thoughts or souls feelings personality and emotions and, in addition, our mind is not us but our brain, our mind is our brain not us and WE ARE NOT The brain our brain is not us it is just a member of our body that our spirit WHICH IS us and our inner self uses it to control our body, our spirit controls our body through our brain, that is, our spirit controls our body within our brain and also god exists, jesus exists, soul and spirit exist, heaven exists , hell exists, life after death or afterlife exists and paradise exists and another thing the soul is the thought and the spirit is us and our inner self, heaven is where god jesus and the angels live, hell is where satan/devil and demons live, life after death or afterlife is the continuity of the spirits of living beings after physical death paradise is where the spirits of living beings who died live and the spirits of evil living beings who died, they are in a place of torture and when we are in the mother's womb, our body and our spirit begin to be created and after nine months our body and our spirit are created completely and we begin to be born our body and our spirit come together as one, they merge into one, thus giving birth to a new living being and this also applies to all animals and all insects since all living beings have body spirit, all living beings like the humans animals and insects are spirits in evolution that live in bodies and have a mind that creates memories thoughts or souls feelings personality and emotions and there is no doubt that all living beings like the humans animals and insects are eternal spirits and no being can exist without a spirit and all living beings like the humans animals and insects are spiritual beings living physical and earthly experiences, the bodies of living beings are just the temporary homes of the spirits of living beings and our existence does not consist of our physical bodies but in our spirits death is the separation between the body and the spirit and NOT the end of our existence i.e. death is not the end and NOTHING ended after death and there is NO death of the spirit but of the physical body, that is, you cease to exist physically but you continue to exist spiritually because the spirit is eternal but not the physical body also all living beings like the humans animals and insects are not just made of matter and are not just matter, all living beings have spirit all living beings like the humans, animals and insects are spirits living in bodies
If there is a soul, a functioning repository of our cognitive being, and if it is separate from and not dependent on the body, then where does it go when humans experience general anesthesia?

The experiment was flawed the human bodies were frozen then thawed the dogs went the lost weight was evaporated water
This theory was never confirmed because they didn't have anything that is monitoring everything in the body. U don't know if it's something else that is lost like maybe it was just gas.
@@runewolf77 They do know that the lost mass in the bodies they monitored came through sweat. And liquid is far more dense than gas.
@@Dragonblaster1 ok. It could be a combination of things maybe 🤔 I mean how long does it take to lose that much sweat right after death? U know if ur findings aren't 100% people r gonna say "ha! It was the soul!" U gotta corner them good!

Maybe some people need to read books written after Aristotle died, say two mellennia later.

I am a medical translator and studied the 21-gram experiment extensively, I even wrote an article about it (I will not link it, because it is written in a different language). I'll summarize the main flaws of that experiment, which shows how scarcely scientific it was:
Thank you for your post, this was very interesting
"keeping me calm would allow others a longer opportunity to insure my blood flow is focused back to my brain before I bleed to death"
It's much simpler than that: when you faint you fall to the floor, your brain is at the same height as the rest of your body, making it a lot easier for your heart to pump blood to the brain, thus increasing your chances of survival.
" because the biological mechanism which triggers this reaction can't tell the difference between taking a blood sample and bleeding to death."
You faint because of stress and anxiety.
These studies were conducted with participants who were hospitalized and under professional medical care at the time of their death; they were published in peer-reviewed journals, meeting necessary research standards:
There are four significant peer-reviewed studies that provide meaningful, verifiable evidence of the survival of human consciousness after clinical death, strengthening the case for the transphysical nature of NDEs:
1. The studies of Dr. Sam Parnia (2014)
A 4-year study of 2,060 patients with cardiac arrest found 9% of the survivors (185 patients) had an NDE; an additional 30% (618 patients) had some sense of postmortem consciousness and maintained visual awareness for up to three minutes after cardiac arrest.
2. Dr. Pim van Lommel (2001)
The science of near death experiences was started in earnest by this longitudinal study of the near death experiences of 344 cardiac patients in ten Dutch hospitals. It found that 62 adult patients (roughly one out of five) experienced an NDE with some typical characteristics. No patients reported distressing or frightening NDEs.
3. Dr. Kenneth Ring (2006)
Specifically studying the NDE experiences of the blind, Dr. Ring found their experiences conformed to the classic NDE pattern (it did not vary whether the patients were born blind, had lost sight later in life, or had minimal light perception). Additionally, 80% of 31 blind respondents claimed to be able to see during their NDEs or OBEs (out of body experience).
4. Dr. Janice Holden (2007)
The Holden study is a compendium of 107 cases in 39 studies by 37 authors in which 37% of the cases involved veridical (verifiable) details reported in the NDE experiences.

It’s true.
Sounds like as good a belief as any.
I remember my dad, a nurse, talking about this "experiment". Sorry, dad, there's no evidence of a soul.
Show him this video.
@Gone With The Wind I was a Christian for 32 years. Go fuck yourself for thinking you know me.
@Gone With The Wind do you have any evidence to back that up?
All gingers have no soul
I have no soul
Therefore I'm a ginger.
Yeet.
So we are just bones and flesh
Amazing... your Sunday school teacher must have hated you sitting there in that seat - Front and center.
If a soul weighed 21 grams, and a fertilized egg weighed less than that, would it be evidence that fertilized eggs don't have souls?
He basically just created this world and allowed us to live in it
No one know what happens after death except that it happens to everyone. And no book written by man 2000 years ago is NOT the answer!
Yeah we know, everyone knows. It’s called decomposition

I'd say the soul is just the abstract of ourselves, and that the soul is just electrical and chemical ; like we are a computer making decisions, I mean imagine if we made an AI, it too would have a soul.
I feel this for sure. The true question about the soul, then, is wether or not it’s eternal.
"The soul of the gaps" hahaha...
Excellent video! Thank you! :D
"Turtles all the way down". Haven't heard that phrase for a good 15 years or so.

I was religious because I wanted to go to heaven, then my old pastor told me everyone goes to heaven anyway.
He singlehandedly made me atheist.
GOOD PASTOR!!!
Exactly thank you
actually no you are wrong because our spirits can feel everything of our physical bodies

The theological discussion was interesting and all, but those puppies and kittens were soooo cute!
Soul turtles all the way down?
Soul turtles.
I declare my soul a turtle now.
Why would anyone want to go to heaven if they can't have all the faithful dogs they had in life waiting for them?
An existence without dogs is not a existence worth existing in. Praise be to DOG!
@@jaycorby Well said! A good dog displays all the positive qualities of humans and none of the bad.

Great content Buddy!
That is just the amount of air we exhale from the lungs when we die and not a soul.
So how does that work?
a yo yo soul? hahaha you got me on this one!
I died twice. There is no soul. There’s nothing.

If this helps, let me know.

I hope so.

Do shoes have souls?
He needed to pick the low-hanging fruit to "debunk" "quackery" using "science".
3:23 Well, one brain hemisphere was an atheist and the other a theist, of course! So half the soul went to heaven, the other to hell

(Physical impairments)
I believe that it’s why despite being raised the same with a small age gap, my sister and I are dramatically different in nature.
You are a soul. A soul is spirit and body. So you are a spirit with a body.
@@davidnievesjr.9478 Cool, I'd love to know where you got that information from, since I couldn't find it anywhere.
@@filipferencak2717 I really can't remember. I saw it a very long time ago.
Consider this argument (modus tollens):
1.) If your mind and your body are not separate, then it would not seem possible that you (your first-person consciousness) could have had another body, such as having a body of a dog or a dolphin.
2.) It does seem possible that you (your first-person consciousness) could have had another body, such as having a body of a dog or a dolphin.
3.) Therefore, your mind and your body are separate.
Soul and mind are together as one, you can't tell the difference.
Then there likely isn't any difference...
Very good points! I never thought about people with amnesia and their religion
Honestly it’s hard to define was a soul is. Some people consider it just your conscious being (like myself) and some consider it a plastic and physical object outside of our understanding. Something hard to disprove or prove. What is interesting though is just the concept of consciousness in general
If the soul is undetectable, how did the idea get started in the first place? All we "know" about it is pure speculation.
Memory’s are physically stored so if the brains damaged then the memory’s are gone. The soul is just energy, not the same you, just what powered you and it will return to the universe redistributed.
FACT: The word ( SOUL ) is a Fictional word CREATED by a ( BELIEF SYSTEM ) that is based on A BELIEF/MAKE BELIEVE. Good luck.
If there is a soul, a functioning repository of our cognitive being, and if it is separate from and not dependent on the body, then where does it go when humans experience general anesthesia?
why should psychopaths have no consciousness? You didn't elaborate this enough!!
Souls and souls continueing on after death is simply a way for humans to comfort themselves about dying
I can hear him shouting “CLEAR!”, everyone standing back waiting for some dramatic medical procedure, and Dr. McDoctorDoctor simply staring at the scale. “21 grams! Sweet!”
If you believe you only have a limited time with which to ever exist, why waste it trying to convince everyone else?
Oh my god that soul experiment triggers me to the CORE. I cannot even......THIS WAS ALL ONE FREAKING PATIENT

Does a full hard drive, filled with data, weigh more than a freshly formatted hard drive, with no readable content? ;)
I don't know about a hard drive - but a compressed spring weighs more than a resting one.
Yes
