- Weekday morning drive at sunrise in downtown Cairo Egypt, the largest metro city in Africa. The city is centered on the Nile River, where you find many international hotels and business high-rises. In a way, it feels like visiting London or Paris where many of the unique or historical elements of the city are located along the river. I love it! One of the most unique places I have ever visited!
Video starts downtown along the Nile River, passes Tahrir Square and the Egyptian Museum, crosses the Nile to the west side of the city and ends in the east side of the city known as Old Cairo.

Cairo, Egypt’s sprawling capital, is set on the Nile River. At its heart is Tahrir Square and the vast Egyptian Museum, a trove of antiquities including royal mummies and gilded King Tutankhamun artifacts. Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab world. The Cairo Metro is one of the only two metro systems in Africa (the other being in Algiers, Algeria), and ranks amongst the fifteen busiest in the world, with over 1 billion annual passenger rides. The economy of Cairo was ranked first in the Middle East in 2005, and 43rd globally on Foreign Policy's 2010 Global Cities Index.

Hello people from all around the world, probably everyone is asking about traffic rules in Cairo. Cairo is a very big city, it's very challenging to government to establish road marks and more organized traffic rules. (We do have rules but less restrict that US and Europe) Yet, everyone drives crazy like you saw here and guess what, everyone find their way! Few road accidents and very ridiculous rush hour! I guess we are used to this! Not just Cairo but all over the country! It is what it is. Egypt is very beautiful country, great opportunities and many places to visit. We just discovered over 100 coffins and some with mummies inside that were buried more than 2,500 years ago. Check it out.

A beautiful city, with beautiful buldings, but blackened by smog. Like London and Paris in the fifties. During the sixties, a washing up of the the façades was put to work, and these cities began to shine again. I think, the Egyptian Goverment could take such an initiative. Cairo deserves it.

Egypt and especially Cairo is like a black hole full of memories and overwhelming feelings that is going to suck you in and you can't find your way out. It's been like ten years since I last visited Egypt and I am still there spiritually.

There are some beautiful places for diving in Sharm El Sheikh, however, as you have probably noticed, this channel is about driving around various places by car, so there is nothing really special to show from that point of view..

@@jjobbdunne4700 Most of downtown Cairo was built in the mid to late 1800s by the Khedive Ismail. But you're right, still a decent handful of buildings from the early and mid 20th century sprinkled in and some from the last couple of decades, closer to the corniche (waterfront).

What a magnificent city! Before to reach the modern city area, in the last quarter of the video, there is a place with a lot of buildings, with four or five pavements, that's utterly beautiful - very architecturally impressive buildings! Unfortunately, some of them doesn't seem to have the proper maintenance, I've seen one being demolished, but these groups of historical, maybe from XIX or beginnings of XX Century, are amazing. There's another place with some very big buildings, not high rise, but with somewhat local architecture that are very beautiful too.

It wasn't demolished, it collapsed because of neglect, I think it's illegal to demolish these buildings.

Amazing the way you are documenting all these cityscapes of the 21th century!!! Especially that you now also include besides world class cities these megaslum cities. Unfortunately the majority of the urban population is housed in poor and overcrowded cities and although these world class cities with their shiny skyscrapers are fascinating to watch, they are reserved for a tiny wealthy elite of the world population..

This must have been way early in the morning because after 8 or 9 am its the hunger games in tje streets especially downtown ,cairo is home for around 22 million people but i love it
