Many years ago I asked my grandfather what it was like in Egypt when he fought in the first world war. He gave one solitary answer "filthy" and this was way back in 1914.

Unfortunately it's nothing like the Silk Road. It's a filthy and chaotic slum with sub par living conditions. Romanticising misery helps perpetuate it for years to come.
Here in Phoenix, Arizona, the garbage collection is well organized, recycling is improving, we must all do our bit to save the planet for the next generation.
I was in Cairo 10 years ago-the filthiest city I've ever seen, worse than Nairobi. In the morning it was smokey from all the trash burning. On the way to the airport one morning I couldn't open my eyes because they were so teared up from the air pollution. On a ride to Giza thru the ag region we saw dead cows floating in the irrigation canals, meat hanging outside food shops, flies everywhere.
May be you saw something you do not know and not understand and you judge it by only standards which oyu are familiar to like clanliness and hygene. We western people are trained to that by so called meds and big pharma to be scared of dirt and lack of householding sanitary. Just open any TV program. Al that driven by profits. . . If You had opportunity to live there You would realize that living in other countries always offer something for somethig and cleanliness and happiness may go separate ways. But to know it reqiures determination and skills to make good connection to people who live there. Living in Cairo was for me exceptionaly demanting regarding working at the same time rewarding for local life conditions and trustworthy to me people. I found all that "mess" much more reasonable than in western countries. Surely driving car and walking requires new set of skills but life is for learning.
The dust, the cars, and the sound of horns sound very dangerous. For those who walk this road, I hope that people here will one day have a better life.
Inteesting how Egypt, Iraq, Iran, India were once the cradles of civilization in ancient times and more advanced than any other culture in the world and look what they have become now.
Well, they did, the cradle of civilization, but all this and the situation of these countries happened for the reason of colonialism, intervention, and even wars in the name of watermelon freedom, which means that the world is not perfect, but towards the end, and a vivid example of that is what is happening to Gaza, but at the hands of the parrot of freedom themselves. Everything is clear why these countries suffered and changed, and they are the cradle of civilization. The achievement that is happening to the world now is its end because it is a big lie really and human beings are intellectually absent......
These are the countries of the owners of the old civilization who are still more advanced but humane this is a fact, and it is the important one. Humanity but actions I mean and not but repeating it like a parrot and destroying it but a reality like what the world is doing today in Gaza...
Iran? Tehran looks nothing like this. I'm not saying that Iran is perfect, but considering the isolation of the country politically and economically, Tehran is fairly advanced.
This is like watching the Arab/Muslim/African version of the average Indian city. Noisy, filthy, populous and zero maintenance. Just surviving. Great video, thank you for posting!
A lack of funds (being poor) doesn’t stop anyone from sweeping the street in front of their shop. It’s a Western tradition to keep your place presentable and it shows self respect. Mass illegal migration will result eventually in turning all the world into this unpleasant Cairo nightmare that I could never adapt to . Sidewalks should be cleared, but when they aren’t, you know that government corruption has reached very high proportions. It’s such a simple, considerate thing to not block the sidewalk.
I have been to Cairo several times and I was amazed how many 2-3-4 -5 story buildings had rebar sticking up and unfinished upper floor of many were old buildings and new and was told that once a building is completed the owners would be forced to start paying taxes on it -

I visited Cairo and a town called Ismailia, Egypt back in 1991, because my mother married an Egyptian man and then they had two kids, and moved to Egypt, so I went to see them, and visit Egypt. It was an awesome trip! First of all, it was before the world changed, so that in itself made it great. I was able to smoke on the plane, which I enjoyed very much. We went to the Pyramids, The Egyptian Museum, to a bazaar, and for a faluka ride on the Nile. We went out to eat a few times, and just walked around downtown Cairo, too. I remember seeing goats and other animals, and I remember there being a lot of street cats. The Call to Prayer freaked me out the first time I heard it, but then I got used to it. I'm glad I went when I did, because I don't think I would be brave enough to travel anywhere in the Middle East right now. Also, I should mention, I never had to go anywhere without a family member that spoke fluent Arabic, so therefore, I never had any communication issues. I remember one day I wore a tank top and shorts, and I'll just say, if you are female, don't do that if you visit Egypt. It was not viewed as appropriate. ** I don't remember Cairo being super filthy, in general. It wasn't "clean", but I don't remember there being garbage everywhere. Could be which part of town you visit, maybe? 🤔 Or it might just be totally different today, just like the rest of the world has changed. I personally hate the way the world is today. Take me back to the 80's and 90's!

Better than any tourist guide tour.
Well, at least they dont shit on streets like they do in India..
Yep i was there in 2010 i didnt see some of the things you saw but it always seemed dirty dusty and polluted

I witnessed it too

The leadership??😂sissi
These are the countries of the owners of the old civilization who are still more advanced but humane this is a fact, and it is the important one. Humanity but actions I mean and not but repeating it like a parrot and destroying it but a reality like what the world is doing today in Gaza...
Iran? Tehran looks nothing like this. I'm not saying that Iran is perfect, but considering the isolation of the country politically and economically, Tehran is fairly advanced.

Yes, it is sad. People don't realize how good they have it in other places. Egypt does have beautiful places as well, but I agree with the other commentor on here, unfortunately corruption has a lot to do with it. @alex-rx2vu there are countries that do not have all the chances to organize themselves. Probably you have never lived in poverty or hard times and youu speak under your security.

Hi
Perfect example of zero central planning. No public areas, just apartments and dirty streets as far as the eye can see. No wonder Egypt are building an entirely new capital city.
Wow, I never imagined to see such a dirty place, does the city never get cleaned or is it the people that don't care and throw in the road? Nice video of a very interesting capital.... Just a shame there is so much trash.
This city is called trash city , everyone is gathering rubbish from other cities to sell it or process it ( recycling ), yup , believe it or not , 99% of this city peoples gather rubbish to sell it to recycling centres (very primitive ones ) , it’s very famous in Egypt, everyone knows it .
people throw on the ground so it's not interesting to invest in cleanlyness. vicious cycle.
A lot of countries in the world have areas like this. You should see Manilla, Philippines, its worse

I am always thankful and grateful for where I live in today. Far from cities but clean, peaceful and not chaotic. I have no right to judge these people coz we all know many people choose to live in cities because opportunities to work, to earn money can be found in that place.
Thanks for the interesting video. I notice that people actually use pickup trucks for work in Egypt, unlike in America here where men use them for status symbols and rarely use them for hauling materials.
