Henri Herz’s Variations brillantes et grande fantaisie sur des airs nationaux américains, Op.158 is a piece I found that is very similar in style and idea to Maurice Strakosch’s Concert Variations on Yankee Doodle.
Someone please tell me the name of this piece. I can’t remember what it’s called.

when is whole piece going to be done?
@@goehomobile not sure.
Thanks for doing score video. This piece is also an etude, its folkloric elements are very nice. As a single concert etude comparison, it is definitely a better written piece than le preux. It doesn't have unnecessary difficulty compared to its musical value, it has more interesting techniques and harmonies. The fact that it contains humorous elements, barbaric parts and folkloric elements confirms this interestingness.
@@fredericfrancoischopin6971I’d agree.
The best version, yes, but not a good version. Ldf does not arpeggiate the chords at the beginning that is supposed to represent the unsheathing of a sword. He does a very good job voicing the melody in 0:17, but the restatement at 4:26 sacrifices the melody for speed. It's safe to say that there's really no actually good recording of Le Preux out there.
@@BlueArchiveAndClassicalPiano yup, it’s also just not a very good piece in general
@@Medtszkowski Yeah true
It’s definitely not very neglected. But yes, that’s really good.
I wonder what Liszt would have done…
Thank you for making what part of the sheet music you’re referring to clear 😕
The second measure in the pic
when u do a part 2, Scharwenka 4 and Balakirev piano sonata 2 (esp the balakirev) must be on there.
I’ve heard that even a lot of professional pianists would be able to play this piece flawlessly. Many people are saying, it’s harder than it sounds and looks. Indeed they are absolutely correct, this piece was designed to push experienced and even professional pianists to their limits, so this piece is certainly not recommended for a novice or even advanced piano players. The first page seems doable but the middle and the coda sections seem nearly impossible for anyone to play due to the precision at such tempo like that with the constant jumps of the octaves. So I say you would 90% not likely hear this Alkan piece in piano performances like from Yuja Wang and Lang Lang. They often choose pieces they know comfortably and nearly flawlessly. So anyways it still is worth listening to this piece without having to play it. The musicality of the piano here really captures the energy of a knight’s horse galloping.
I wonder why no professionals pick this up. it would be excellent repertoire especially in a casual setting (maybe not variation 1)

rachmaninoff is without a doubt my fav but that moment at 0:39 is one of my favorite moments in all of piano literature and it makes me feel a way no rachmaninoff or any other composer's moments ever have and I don't know why.

The voice is the best!!!!
The voice is not an instrument.
@@benharmonics your joking right?
@@Rach-Fanatic I'm not joking! Just ask a singer. The voice is different from, and in some ways better than, any instrument. But it's not an instrument. Here's the difference: when you play an instrument, there's 2 components: the instrument, which is an inanimate object, and you, who plays it. But when you sing, YOU are the instrument! The "instrument" is a living organism.
@@benharmonics yea, an instrument…
Super moment of the Botrzwiekstsky ❤
As long as cello, guitar, and horn exist, piano is not the best instrument. It's a pretty good one though.
@@benharmonics guitar seems out of place imo, there are arguments to be made for horn or cello but I dont really see how guitar could be better than piano
@@manzoh2248 ruclips.net/video/fZ37IixBja4/видео.htmlsi=5m-DoiwT2-ZRVblH
@@manzoh2248Ability to play many chords, beautiful tone, great versatility in different styles of playing, wide range of techniques among other things are just a few reasons why it deserves the place imo.
@@Ace-dv5ce I mean those are reasons, but I think piano just does all of that but to a higher degree, with more variance of tone, versatility, and it can much more fully recreate the sounds of an orchestra with more than just chords
The piano has the ability to play a huge variety of dynamic ranges cleanly, and effectively ... with multiple lines of different dynamics all at the same time.. horns can't even play two notes at the same time, limiting their harmonic range as an independent unit (in an orchestral setting sure i can see what you are saying). ... cellos are also quite an instrument, but being one with a bridge it also can't play more than 2 notes at the same time... in terms of techniques though yes, the cello has a large variety of sounds that can be used... guitar is guitar sooo... Just joking... again, guitar has a wide expressive and dynamic range, but falters in the volume range, easily drowned out in setting larger than a string quintet, or even a small brass section.. not saying that it determines the instruments value, just that it is a downside to an otherwise very-likeable instrument.. the piano - meanwhile - has no limitations as such regarding these... and being an instrument where such a vast flow of notes occurs in any usual setting in which it is composed for.. no one really cares about a cresendo on one literal note... tremelos exist.
never heard of any of these pieces. I've got a lot of listening to do haha. thanks for the recs!
@@jayhu2296 no problem!
You can’t just tease us with the opening theme of El Pueblo, and then not have the rest of the piece! Not just the best piece by Rzewski (may he rest in peace), but perhaps the greatest set of variations ever written. All that aside, great selection of music!

Correction: A few reasons why Percussion is the best instrument! Jk! Piano is supreme!!!
@@IsaacLeePercussion 😂
Piano IS a percussion instrument. Ask Bartók.
Piano is the best instrument. Literally the first example is a piano playing in octaves and mostly in unison with the full backing of a rich orchestra. tsk tsk tsk
It’s just a fun title, don’t take it too seriously, I’m just sharing some of my favorite music selections that involve piano.
Piano is best instrument change my mind
As a pianist I think it’s 2nd. Organ is first
@@nasirferguson4098 fair point…
