10 Tech Sales Lessons You NEED to Know | #1 AE Shares Wisdom
Man i just love you! you made my day! literally 😭
Great tip! What do you advise to experienced sellers who can generate pipeline and have a great understanding about sales methodologies but lack industry specific experience as they want to break into a new industry they have never worked it before? Thanks in advance.
Put a lot of focus on the transferable skills, and show up in your interviews/outreach with what you've learned about the persona they sell to + their product's differentiators If you have great pipeline generation and strong sales acumen then many sales leaders will take a shot on you if you demonstrate quick understanding of their unique space
Awesome!
thank you!
Fantastic
thank you!!
Trying to get my first sales job soon, been binge watching all of your videos. Thanks Kyle for all the value!
good luck with the search!!
I work at start up and we don’t have a clear ICP and specifically which companies are best suited to buy our solution. In that situation, it has led me to struggle hard with generating pipeline, setting meetings. What would be the three main points for me as an IC to turn my situation around and start building my pipe?
that's a really big question but I'll give it a shot: 1) List the problems your solution is best at solving 2) Identify the industries where those problems are most painful 3) Find companies within those industries that are on the smaller side (hard to get into enterprise accounts as a very small startup) 4) Reach out to the people within those companies responsible for solving the problems you address
Thanks for sharing so much valuable knowledge, Kyle! I’m binge watching all your videos and learning a lot!
love to hear that!! thank you for sharing your feedback
Hey Kyle - great content as usual! Can you elaborate on how do you find if the company has use cases?
I'll look for if they are hiring in my target departments, use of competitors, and prospects with relevant skills (e.g., at MongoDB looked for noSQL)
What would you recommend someone trying to get in to B2B sales? What certifications? what industry to try first? how to have more chances to land a job as a B2B sales?
Try companies with shorter sales cycle/more transactional. Without relevant experience, you won't have much of a chance applying online. Best bet is pick a company (ideally one with a lower cost product/faster sales cycle) and reach out to some of the AEs and ask them what makes a successful AE at the company. Then, cold call/email/DM etc sales leaders at the company and say, "I spoke with (names) and learned successful sellers have (traits/skills)." Then, explain how you have those skills/traits and ask for a chance to interview for a role.
@ Kyle, thanks so much for the advice. I will definitely take it and implement it, I’ll keep you posted afterwards!
I'm constantly trying to get in to B2B sales, I have not had the opportunity yet, but when it comes, I'm confident I'll be better prepared thanks to your videos, keep them coming, I'd like to know more about how to transition to B2B sales from consumer sales.
I'm so happy they are helpful!
Gotta be ruthless with your time
gotta own it
Thanks Kyle. Would be great to hear your perspective on the metrics & info that should be included on an amazing AE’s resume.
I'll have to do a deep dive on this!
Our CFO came to speak to us about the ROI projections one... first question a CFO asks "Did you actually build this? Or did the sales person?"
execs don't even look at ROI projections built by the vendor - gotta be collaborative
Great stuff!! Thanks
thank you!
I'm a big fan of your videos and have learned so much from them! As a professional video editor and thumbnail designer, I see immense potential to make them even more engaging. This is what it's all about!!
thank you!
Always going to be someone better than you and ahead in your career - and the opposite. Just work on improving you!!
that's all we can control!
All starts with targeting the right accounts and spending your time in the right spots
hard to win without that foundation
@Sales Introverts™ - Kyle Asay Thank you for this Video. It really helps. These can help in my Career Progression from a Customer Success Management to SDR / AE. Are there any specific points you can suggest me to focus on ? Retaining Customers and selling to the existing customer base is also important. What would you suggest us during the transition? Thank you!!
One focus area might be working to expand customers in net new departments - that's a solid sales motion that you can do while in CS
Amazing content Kyle! today I had my first B2B meeting from my new company and while I think I had a good result, I could have definitely have used all these insights! Thanks a lot man.
thank you! happy to hear it's helpful

I love to hear this - good luck with the interview!!
Do you think its necessary to book video calls or phone calls ok? I just think some people dont want to be video chatting
I think either can work, but generally prefer video for increased engagement
good video, very clear + to the point
thank you!
I must say- this is a very underrated channel. Your tips were crucial in helping me prepare for my recent interviews, and I just secured a MM AE role at an A-grade company! Thanks!

This is how you actually drive open & reply rates up!!
thanks, Brian!
Favorite video ever
most fun to make, for sure
Such an important skill
it's the foundation!
So great
thanks, Brian!
Solid insight I've just shared this with my sales team
thank you!
Great tips, thank you! Just starting a new sales business and cold emails are tough. 100% open rates, 8% click through rates, and 3% response rates. Ouch!
those are actually pretty solid metrics! email is tough. phone is better :)
This was great!
thank you! glad you enjoyed - this was a fun one to create
Kyle, your AE Frameworks 2.0 is spectacular. Really enjoying it, and sometimes when I don't fully absorb something after a long day these supplementary videos are a massive help! They are an AWESOME supplementary resource. I have wasted too years trying to figure stuff out from people also trying to figure stuff out, and this helps enormously. Just a thought and some feedback: I wish I could purchase it as a book! I printed it to make it easier to read but a nice softback or hardback would be an awesome resource.
really appreciate your kind feedback and support! I might make it available in a physical form in the future, but for now am prioritizing ease of distribution.
LinkedIn brought me here ✊🏾
great to have you here!
Totally agree, never met a successful seller who liked any of her posts 🙃 I just revised my cold email based on your tremendously valuable framework. Quick question: Do you include a booking link like Calendly in your emails? Yes or no? And why? Many thanks, and wishing you a stellar week ahead!
I don't recommend links in cold outreach as it can hurt deliverability!
Understood. I highly appreciate your time and effort to answer me, Kyle! I'm still regularly going through your framework and both looking for and finding inspiration to improve my process. It's an incredible resource that has given me the foundation of my current structure ❤ I would be very curious to hear more from you about subject lines. I'm still struggling with crafting a concise subject line that meets the competitor test.
Underrated
thank you!
Really insightful Kyle
thank you!
Mistake #5: Reminds me of a page from The Biggest Bluff by Maria Konnikiva. When playing poker tournaments, she became so fixated on forcing the next step (i.e. from entrant to hitting "min cash" - outlasting enough entrants to hit the first tier of payouts and turn a small profit on the entry fee), that her overly conservatively play was setting her up to go bust just before or quickly after min cash, because she was "short stacked" (a low amount of chips relative to the other players and bets being played) once she got to min cash. She needed to shift to big picture thinking, cashing less often, but being in a more commanding positions when she did, because payouts concentrate towards the top, so she was losing at the macro level (dwindling bankroll), despite the wins at the micro (min cashing). If that isn't a lesson in qualifying out to keep your pipeline lean and mean, then I don't know what is!
love this - thank you for adding!
