What's your thoughts on a steering stabilizer?
I have given this quite some thought and have been tempted to replace/upgrade? the stabiliser in my vehicle. It seems many are reporting great improvements with the steering on road (others saying only some improvement) particularly with the self centre issue. However the OEM stabiliser may be a better option off road it seems. (one person I know commented "keep your thumbs out of the steering wheel if you change the stabilise') Personally I am comfortable enough with the OEM stabiliser that I am hesitant to make a change to what Ineos engineers have chosen as the best option. If the majority of driving is everyday drive on sealed roads....maybe a good investment. Other option could be to change back to the OEM if going on an off road trip. It seems a fairly straight forward operation to change it. At this stage I am sticking with the OEM.......but who knows. Cheers John
I agree 100%. The service issue and lack of communication is the most frustrating part… greetings from Germany
Hi in Germany!, seems a small thing that could make us a lot happier. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, John
Thanks for the video! Congrats! Is it good for long distance travel? Highway comfort?
I have primarily done long trips both on sealed and unsealed roads. On the highway it just hums along beautifully...very nice. Cheers John
Toyota dealers are from perfect. They don't make much selling vehicles, so their profit must come from service. I'll fill in some details on Toyotas! But first - strange about keys - my Discovery 4 has a falling apart key, Indy was getting another, I said get a third, Indy worried about the cost, around $330. The key is proximity but doesn't unlock the doors, but similar tech I suspect. Landcruiser 300 series all over Australia were supplied with just one key and owners had to wait for many months to get their second. Look at the advertisements, LC300s being sold will often mention this: "Two keys". So if a Landcruiser 300 owner with one key looses it ... I've wondered what then happens? My local Toyota dealer (biggest seller in Victoria) charged me for oil during its fixed priced services ... when it's supposed to be part of the fixed service charges. I thought well - hopefully - they are really changing the oil and lubrications fluids. Who really knows? The same dealer often reports a plug is stuck and it would cost $2,000 to fix and would require a head shave and new gaskets (Lexus RX350 V6 petrol) and when I quoted torque settings, queried why is an apprentice doing such a job, and told them I wanted it towed to another dealer - they miraculously got the plug out. But they attacked the sat nav DVD as an act of vengeance. I reported it to Lexus (the Lexus dealership is part of the same site with Toyota next to the Lexus outlet) and are run by the same group) and Lexus said "too bad, they are independent of Lexus". I have that in writing!! My 1997 Prado (bought new and now its my son's and still going - bought a Kakadu 150 series and hated it, piece of unwieldy goo compared to the petrol 90 series) needed a new key also. Decades ago! Cost was $270. But I bought the blank for $60, had it copied, and then entered the code in the radio with the key in the ignition - and a few seconds later it was coded correctly. So the dealer was charging $210 back then for a two minute job.
It is a minefield alright. I think they are all the same. I think the letdown with the Grenadier is that they seemed to offer us more opportunities to service our own vehicles but this simply has not eventuated. Cheers John
Hi John I also have the Kaon barrier and shelf. I noted attached to your barrier a Firestryker fire extinguisher. Kaon sell these also. Have you had any experience with them? Effective? They are nice and compact, but relatively expensive compared to standard’ extinguishers ( but what price do you put on safety?) Cheers
Thanks for your message. No I have not
Actually used a firestryker. I did however do a bit of research and decided it was worthwhile. It seems more effective than a dry powder and leaves no residue. Also Les weight.
If you install a rear view camera and use it instead of the central mirror, it will be superb
Yes I am considering doing exactly that. Thanks for the comment, John
@@cannyoutdoorsplease update us when you do, I am putting a list before buying my own Ineos, I was about to buy it until they showed us the V8 prototype and literally made me waiting in hope that they start producing it.
I have one, and I hate it. The fuel system throws a check engine light every time you fill it up, and you have to take it to the dealer, for me that is a two hour drive to get it turned off. When this happens, it also kills the cruise control. I ended up buying a code reader so I could reset this engine light myself. There is a speed warning that has to be turned off every time you start the thing. You need to replace the steering stabilizer for $400.00 to fix the stiff steering issue. The turning radius is the same as a semi-truck. Wait until they fix these issues before buying one. It is a good driving car, but for this price, you can buy a Ford F250 top-of-the-line and have way more bells and whistles. The update did not happen in 2024 come on INEOS get it together.
Sounds like you should have bought a different vehicle.
Sorry to hear that...I guess it is possible to get a lemon from any manufacturer. I hope you are making a lot of noise to Ineos about this...good Luck, John
Accounting wheel nuts
In case you didn't know, Brown-Davis have made a 68 litte sub tank for the Grenadier that mounts up under the rear skid plate 👌
Yes thank you. I believe you have to alter the exhaust system but it is worth investigating. Cheers John
Thanks for this report. I guess it's a matter of time before someone refills with 100% of water and not 67% water and 32.5% Urea, what's the other 0.5%? Would be interesting to see what would happen.
I think it's been done without success. I guess if you were desperate you might add your own Urea!!!!!!! Cheers John
Hi John. Do you still have your Grenadier?
Sure do but I have been overseas for a while. Heading off on a trip next week and can’t wait to get back behind the wheel.
I would not want to make that hypocrite Ratcliffe richer.
I can't find the EXT1 under the hood (supposed to be near the Airfilter on RHD)
Very hard to find but it is there... good luck with it. John
oh, and no rattles! An amazing, rattle free drive, even after 9 months, I hope it persists!
So far so good. About to give her a couple more thousand k's on rough roads in outback Queensland so we shall see, Cheers John
Thanks for the thoughtful videos and shared experience! I've had my Grenadier for about 9 months. I agree with all you have stated with one exception.....the steering. I have not heard the complaint to be that the truck 'wanders around', but rather, there is a larger than acceptable 'dead zone'. I can rotate my wheel left and right a good bit before any reaction is felt by the vehicle, far more than on any other truck I have owned, forget about the vehicles equipped with rack and pinion (no comparison). The quality of the Grenadier is undeniable in my opinion, but the steering does not live up to the rest of the truck, and unfortunately it is something you interact with every time you drive. I will say, it is predominantly an issue at speeds greater than 45mph (75kph) on-road. Day to day, around town and off road, it is not a noticeable....but at greater speeds....it could be improved no doubt. Like you, it brings a smile every time I get in, driving or not.
Thanks for that comment. I wonder if there is a difference in some of the vehicles, or tyers , rim sizes etc.....I really don't know. I have been following with some interest those who are changing out the front steering damper. Most are reporting an improvement on daily driving but I am also hearing the OEM remains the better choice for off road. There are lots of opinions on this. I was contemplating changing it on mine but have decided to hold off for the time being as I am not that unhappy with my steering. One comment that had me thinking was " keep your thumbs out of the way if you change the damper and go off road". Cheers John
Thank you for sharing from your experience and your thoughts. You have.DRIVEN MY THOUGHTS in a different direction about a new vehicle. You don’t have to give them slack.
I share my personal lived experiences , if it helps that great. Thanks for the comment, John
Car in warranty and in the workshop for 3 weeks waiting for a part??? WTF??? I would not buy one of these based on that alone. This is a new breed for Australia and you would think they would at least airfreight the parts to keep the customer happy. Aside from that yes I would never buy the first of any model run. Preferably the last. Overall it looks the goods but i'll wait and see how the re-sale value goes before I dip in and buy one. Thanks for the review.
Can't fault your logic. Still I am enjoying it. Thanks for commenting, John
I do not own one. I have seen Brown and Davies advertising, they have made a bigger fuel tank for the vehicle.
Yes I believe so, may be a future option. Thanks for the comment, John

Good tip, thanks John
Great review John! We're currently on a 5-year trip in a Grenadier across the world towing a Patriot X3, which we live in. We set off from London in mid-July 2023 with our two young kids and we’re approaching 50000km. At least 70% of our journey has been off-road...
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. My wife and I have only recently discovered your channel and we are loving your adventures. Your family is amazing and we will continue to follow your journey. We would love to keep in touch and please come to Australia we would love to host you. Travel safe. Regards John
@ Welcome! Great to hear you’re both enjoying our little journey! Thank you so much for your offer to host. Unfortunately we won’t make it to Australia this time around (lots of reasons) but my brother lives in Sydney and so we’ll definitely be dropping by at some point. It would be great to come and say hello! 🙏
Just enjoyed your latest episode. As usual fantastic! Glad to hear you have contacts in Sydney so hopefully one day we will see you in Queensland. Have a wonderful Christmas wherever you may be spending it. John
Thank you a lot. We won't buy it
How can you be unbiased, if you have 100 000 in it ?
I reckon there is more chance of me being unbiased for that very reason. Don't know about you but I get pretty pissed when I spend my hard earned on stuff that turn out to be crappy!, John
@cannyoutdoors well John, I'm not a masochist. If something pisses me off I won't use it for "100 000" miles, especially if it's my own money on the line.
Let see no BS review after 60 or even 120 months😅
Yes it will be interesting to see. I plan to keep it that long so keep watching, Cheers John
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, John
John, I appreciate your comments, and am very much on a parallel with you. I have had mine now for several months, but have only done 5335 km, mostly farm related. Had it parked with windscreen sun shield. saw nothing at that time, but a couple of days later had a crack developed. Must be two months now, still no replacement available. At least passenger visor largely hides it from my view. There is an ongoing message that a service is overdue, the days overdue increases day by day even if the vehicle just stands unused for several days. It is a very slight irritation because the msg last for long enough to hide other info at regular intervals. Regards, Hector. Kingaroy
Firstly Hector sorry for the late reply, I have been OS. I have heard of this cracking with no apparent cause issue before and I would certainly take it up with your dealer. Who knows but likely they will say something must have hit it but you didn't notice...but worth a try. I am also in Qld and got a genuine new screen in a few days. My insurance company organised O'Briens. Ineos have also told me that have screens stockpiled and available. Believe it or not I have the same annoying message as it was not reset when I got it serviced and I haven't had a chance to go back (5hr return trip). I don't think there is a way you can reset it yourself. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it, John
*You never buy a Billionaires Pet Project product till the 5th year!*
Might be on to my second one by then!! Cheers John
I just bought a set of Pirelli AT+ for my Pajero. Tyre shop steered me away from LT’s pointing out that they generally have less grip on the wet due to less flex and harder compound designed for heavier loads.
Yes I would not disagree with that. Depends on how hard the use is to be but the Pirellis have really good grip in the wet and that's pretty important. John
Video was helpful. Thanks
Thank you Steve for taking the time to comment, John
I did mine myself too. I used my bonnet as a workbench when peeling off the backing
Sorry for the late reply. Im still happy with it on my vehicle, thanks for commenting,John
Is it necessary to have a zaleo or sat phone between albany and esperance?
Sorry for the late reply. It is not an area I am familiar with but I think for the small cost the answer is yes. Pretty much anywhere you don't have phone coverage its a worthwhile carry, John
Well after all it's a retro vehicle. And keeping up with retro vehicles when SUVs first came out parts or insanely expensive. So I guess as a joke they're keeping the part expensive to make the vehicle more retro!!! It adds to the authenticity of the vehicle.
Sorry for the late reply. Yep good point, thanks for the comment, John
Wow! This guy's tone has changed quite a bit. Did Inoes pay you?
Sorry for the late reply. Gee I wish! Unfortunately so far its only me paying Ineos!
I'm 6'3" and the footrest is fine. Not sure what the fuss is about.
Sorry for the late reply. Yes no problem for me either, JOHN
Hi John. I have had my Grenadier for a similar length of time to you (since August 2023), now have 25,000+ on the clock, maninly outback touring - totally agree with your thoughts. Apart from the rear camera, my only other concern is the windscreen - had one replaced in first month and now need another one - virtually any stone that hits it , crack it. Mean I drive very defensively on remote roads. Other issue I had was one of the door hinges broke internally - not a big issue and replacement covered on warrantly but required a respray of the door as the hinge itself is external!!
Today I test drove one in Colorado Springs. There were two large cracks on the windshield! I asked the saleslady about it and she said they took it off roading a lot? I thought it was really odd that there were two large (more than 12 inches) cracks on the test drive vehicle at the dealership. Why do you think the windshields crack so easily?
Sorry for the late reply. No doubt about it because they are so vertical the screens are very vulnerable. Im lucky so far only one replacement. John
Sorry for the late reply. Yes Im back is Australia and heading off next week to outback Queensland....hot🥵. Hope I can keep the screen intact!!! Don't like the door hinge issue, hopefully it not a common problem, John
I recently installed the same, had same issues with bushings but Kaon were good to deal with and fast response.
How's it going pretty happy with mine now I have used it a bit, John
Hi John. There are plenty of Australian made products out there.. look at " Get Good Gear", and we also have some products in the line. Our " Project Simpson" cargo system is taking shape and should have a prototype ready for testing before xmas.
I know Aussie get upside down confused but didn’t realise front and rear was a problem 😂😂
Not only that we have there steering wheel on the wrong side!!! No wonder we get confused 😆 Cheers John
@ no it’s on the correct side it’s the rest of the world that’s wrong 😂🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴
Good to see you’re doing well! When are you doing the Canning Stock Route? P.S someone should make a carbon fibre roof rack that’s very light but strong.
CSR has got to be on the to do list...maybe next year!. And yes 60kg for the Rhino rack... Thanks for watching and commenting, John
I have just had a set of Drifta drawers and fridge slide fitted today at their Gloucester factory I am very happy with them and the quality is excellent.
Pleased to hear that. Have been wondering about the slides but all I hear is good comments from those that have them. Might be the way to go. Thanks for the comment, John
I skipped the bushes as I couldnt work it out, but will call KAON and ask to send the right ones. worst part was taking out the factory cargo barrier a few words may have been said
Definitely get the bushes. Yes. When I said a bit tricky I really meant pain in the A getting it out 😂. Cheers John
They should let the bloke who designed or built the thing write the note in the box of new parts , it would go something like this "We had a bit of a stuff up but here are the right parts " . not wishy washy airy fairy PR talk that only makes it worse .
Actually, I recently purchased and installed the very same model Kaon shelf. Like John, I had "trouble" fitting the bushing. It is a high quality elastomer material but my ageing fingers were not strong enough to force it over the OEM cargo barrier fitting. I warmed the material with a hair dryer, coated it with a dab of detergent and it slid into place.... I rang Kaon and spoke to the developer to let him know. He was most receptive and agreed that the bushing hole to accommodate the OEM fitting could be widened a fraction without compromising the integrity of the bush which has a retaining track just inside the lip to retain the disc-shaped protrusion on the OEM fitting. This is probably what's been done... The product, I might add, was presented in high quality packaging, the instructions were written in clear, gramatically correct English... They are a hard working, responsive company without pretensions. Pleasure to deal with!
That's the way things are today. The product is high quality and I am very happy with it and pleased to have a good Aussie company making stuff. Ok the bushes were not right but I am sure they will rectify that. Cheers John
Good effort and I agree with your comments, John
Looks like it might be a little closer to the ceiling compared to Bison product, meaning not quite the same storage capacity. Could just be the camera angle I guess. My shelf is approximately 190 mm between roof lining and rack.
Well spotted, the Kaon is 175mm not a great difference in it. Thanks for the comment, John
Hi John, like you I wanted Aussie made too, so I waited for Kaon to design theirs and I can say I'm more than happy with it. I bought the shelf and lightweight barrier as a kit and it fits my needs perfectly. Thanks for the video! Keep them coming. Enjoy your trip overseas!
Many thanks Steve, I really appreciate your comments and support, John
I have just had a set of Drifta drawers fitted today I am very happy with them and they are Australian made and built in a country town 3:01
Nice work John.
Glad you enjoyed it, appreciate you checking it out.John
Used and have a lot of Kaon products and they are usually pretty good, professionally made and look the goods. Hard working Australian company.
Totally agree , I will always go for Australian made if I can. John
I’m from Texas and appreciate your honesty. What would “needle” on yours is driving on the right side of the vehicle. The one I’m planning on getting has a left hand drive. Just kidding with you man!
Well at least you won't have to worry about the foot rest causing a problem. Even with the steering wheel on the wrong side 😂, I am sure you will enjoy it. I must visit Texas again soon, we now have direct flights Brisbane to Texas. John
Welcome to niche market products. Expect these expenses. Not everyone can afford ineos and there is a reason.
Good point. Thanks for watching, John
