The song blew up within hours of its release. I know it was at least number three on Apple music the morning after it came out, and within 4 days broke spotify's single day streaming record. That was before people understood the drama and certainly before they became invested in it. Most people simply didn't know who she was and were reacting only to the song. I'm sure the drama added, but let's not take away from the achievement of the song itself, which is a masterpiece

I find it interesting a few years on how this situation is talked about now. Most people agree that Olivia should’ve said something, but the disagreements come from analysing her morally. I’ve seen it’s common with people who hate Olivia or are trying to defend Josh will project a lot of maturity onto her lyrics. Like, I’ve seen people take the “I guess that therapist I found for you she really helped” line as her making fun of him for going to therapy, when it’s clear that that’s not the case. Shes bitter he (if she even is talking about Josh) became a better guy emotionally for another girl rather then her. I’ve seen another line, “I’m so caught up in the news about who hates me and who hates you,” being taken as her seeing all the hate Josh gets and loving it. However, if you look at the rest of the song, she’s self-loathing. I don’t think she’s being evil here and loving the hate he’s getting-I think it’s more likely she’s overwhelmed with the fame she’s found, especially considering this was the last song she wrote and it was wrote after all the drama. “Caught up” doesn’t sound exactly fun. Personally, I think she was an immature teenager who was thrust into the spotlight and didn’t know how to handle it. Whether she was taken advantage of by her PR team and told not to say anything (very likely), enjoyed the hate that Josh and Sabrina got due to spite, believed staying silent was the best option or all three, the fact is she was a heartbroken teen who made mistakes. Again, I personally think Olivia, Josh and Sabrina were all taken advantage of in this situation by their managements, PR teams and potentionally families without even realising. These adults failed to shield them from the drama because the entertainment business loves this type of stuff and won’t hesitate to take advantage of naive teens and their dreams.

Someone needs to look into Olivia's choice to not address the hate her fans threw and are still throwing at Sabrina. Not only did her dad like tweets directly making fun of Sabrina and harassing her, but Olivia's close close friend also posted tweets slut-shaming Sabrina as well. If the people around her are doing this, I can't imagine what her motives are for profiting off of the drama and not speaking up. This is especially concerning given her song "apocalyptic crush" which is extremely toxic and negative towards a situation similar to the one she was in with the love triangle. That song is bashing the other woman and belittling them. Real situation or not, it's toxic and unreleased for a reason. There's a lot of obsessive behaviors going on that fans dismiss due to Olivia's age.

Her fans sent death threats to bassett and sabrina, when bassett had near death experience there were cruel jokes about it, there were cruel jokes about his sa experience. Her fans were so toxic and she did nothing to stop them. And its not even like he cheated or anything. They were both teenagers and he moved on from her. People are allowed to do that. He didn't deserve to be villainized for it.

i think it’s important to also note that joshua himself hates crisis - it’s one of the only songs of his that wasn’t on the setlist on his tour. the only way he could release the other songs on his ep is if he released crisis. his label HATED secret and set me free (which are some of his best songs idk what’s wrong with his label)

It was very smart for Joshua Bassett not to write a song about Olivia at first- especially when he’s just starting out as an artist. It would have defined a part of his image and he’d always be tied to Olivia if he came out the gate like that. Brand Identity-wise, it was the best long-term decision, because his career won’t start as a result of someone else’s drama, meaning his fan base and his celebrity won’t be defined by hers.
