Can you import hand drawing and convert it to line or shapes like you could in Adobe Illustrator?

The one feature that had me holding onto Adobe was intelligent background removal. Just tried Pixelmator and it worked just as well. I'm cutting the cord with Adobe, and Pixelmator will pay for itself in less than two months.

Not pressure sensitive… how is that working like a drawing tablet then? There are very few artists that do not need the pressure sensitivity when drawing. So it doesn’t work like a drawing tablet at all, it works more like a display track pad controlled by a pen… Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great option as a second monitor, but thats not the same as a display graphics tablet

Pixelmator Pro is *great*. I switched and never looked back. The one thing it can't do, no app can match, is "contextual paste." I love the AI upscale feature and use it daily to upscale anime graphics for my social media and blogs. No sure if that's in Photoshop these days as I stopped using the current version years ago.

Does it offer CMYK view and export?

What about the LR and CR edits on thousands of RAWs that photographers accumulated over decades? Is it transposing those into it's own edits? If you say Lightroom competitor you have to look at the proffesional workflow that LR stands for, not just the edit capabilities. With your statements like these, you'll get comments and views, but it won't make your channel look interesting. "Over-promise and Underdeliver" is a way to getting you clicks , but will be killing your business in the long run.

i'm so happy i saw this video. i canceled my adobe after seeing it. i haven't downloaded pixelmator yet since my adobe has 20+ days left but after it runs out i'm excited to try this out. for what i occasionally edit with photos this will be fantastic.

Can you perform batch edit as in lightroom? For example, in lightroom, I edit one image and sync the edit with several similar images. It would be great if this function exist.

I have been using Pixelmator and Pixelmator Pro for many years now, and it is a much simpler version than Photoshop, I bought it because of its ease of use, and the fact you can buy it straight off rather than the subscription model, plus not having everything going to "the cloud". Not sure how it will develop though with Apple, no doubt there will be an Apple "re-launch" which we'll have to pay for again if we want updated and new features.

I’ve been using Pixelmator and Affinity Photo/Designer/Publisher for years for my personal work. Now they’ve both been purchased by other companies (Apple and Canva - and I hope that will not screw them up). I have to use Adobe apps at work every day. I have at least one Adobe app crash every single day. It’s really frustrating. It could be just scrolling through an InDesign book. Or dragging an artboard in Photoshop. Also, Adobe Bridge is the slowest app I have ever used in my entire life, and I’m 50 years old and have used almost every design/art/photo app that has ever existed on a Mac. It’s like we are paying a subscription to beta test Adobe’s software for them. I will never go back to using Adobe for personal work. Affinity is my goto, but Pixelmator is a really nice alternative.

I use Affinity Suite by Serif, which is awesome, and covers almost everything I could need from Adobe Photoshop, LightRoom, Illustrator, and InDesign. However, it doesn't have video editing capabilities. Also, it covers everything *I* could need, but it doesn't necessarily cover *everything*. One notable feature of Illustrator that's missing in Affinity is Image Trace, where you can just quickly convert a raster image to a reasonably decent vector design. Now, I haven't used Illustrator since 2020, but at least back when I used it, it wasn't incredible - just very good. Since Affinity doesn't have it, I've resorted to just doing vector tracing by hand, which takes a lot longer, but also turns out much higher quality. On the flip side, Affinity's In-Painting brush is leagues beyond Photoshop's Content Aware Fill in terms of usability, since it's a brush, and you can utilize any brush shape and size, opacity, feathering, etc. which makes it so much easier to smoothly use in-painting / content aware replacement of an image - i.e. painting out a street sign, or a person in the background, or whatever.

Still missing a Design and Layout program like Adobe InDesign. The solution is Apple needs to buy Quark Express. Quark was king back in 90s, until Adobe ripped it off with InDesign. If they do this Designers will drop Adobe like a hot rock.

I would have to by a mac again. I used Apurture until it dropped. Then went with adobe. Lightroom is a great product in many respects, but it is confusing with all the names the different products have had and naming conventions of functions across the different apps, as well as file management. It is also slow. Great, interesting video

Apple are doing great with their creative apps at the moment! Does Pixelmator feature any sort of effects like Photoshop though? Like, a blur gallery or filter gallery? I think things like that usually come as being essentials for graphic design, but otherwise… I’m sold on it!

Thanks for the update. I already have FCP for the iPad. I think you covered the basics but Apple burned me with dropping Aperture. I have a pretty good mastery of Lightroom Classic. Yes, I don’t like the subscription. I do like Adobe updates the application on a consistent basis. Apple’s track record with FCP for the iPad is very inconsistent. Still a number of features missing. In earlier years I was an Apple Early Adopter going back to Mac then laser writer introduction. When Steve J came back 1st day iPhone, iPad and Watch. Apple seems to be the MicroSoft of old. Incremental upgrades in large part because of the chip design. They failed at the car (overreach and out of their lane with huge costs) and VisionPro . I had real hopes for VisionPro given their IP. Loved the test I did and was thinking of it as a replacement for my aging iMac. Now I’ll go with the Mini 4 Pro since I already have their over priced studio display. Apple also let people go who had design and app skills at the leadership level. The leadership has become stale and more focused on shareholder value including leadership’s stock options and cash out. All this to say Apple’s purchase of Pixelmator, which I have as well, may not yield anything new. They can’t compete with LTC. I suspect the only real integration will be with Photos and programs like pages and iMovie.

Every damn job application in my field always requires adobe suite … this is where the stranglehold by adobe runs deep…sick of it

Been a Pixelmator convert since it was just Pixelmator, before the pro. As you say in your video, is it as powerful as PS? No. But it is still an excellent app and does everything I need it do and as you said, being able to do vector in the same app is amazing. I use Pixelmator Pro almost daily and I only paid for it once. It's stable and super fast too. Wont be for everyone, but perfect for 95% of people out there I think. Oh and Photomator is great too, but that is a subscription, but still cheaper than Adobe.

Been using this app for several years. Excellent product. Considering that I don't need 80% of Photoshop's advanced features, Pixelmator covers all my needs. Before Apple bought this app, there were occasional 50% discounts, which I took advantage of. It's wildly cheap )

Apple probably smelled the rotting corpse of the Adobe and I'm sure are working on this to grab the photographers market. Especially with Apple's screens with great colors and fast new M-line CPUs.

I hope Apple give the interface a good shaking and make it more like the standard Pixelmator: I just couldn't find my way around Pro's interface. It didn't add anything to the product, just seemed like change for change's sake...

My biggest issue with Apple’s application is CONTINUITY in the prosumer market. I was a Final Cut Pro user since version 1.0, then after version 5.0 Apple created the subpar FCPX. I was a SHAKE user until Apple killed it on 2009. I was an Aperture user and incorporated it into my professional workflow, until Apple killed it and replaced it again with a sub par application. I’m not going to invest time and money on an application that might be killed or changed into something subpar that it is platform closed. Apple used to be synonym with professional apps, now all their so called “pro” tools are just toys wrapped around a nice GUI. I give credit to Logic Pro as the only real professional tool available in Apple though.
