      Good catch! Yep, loving the Wolverine and so glad I went with the self-bailer. Thanks also for the tip -- I actually did move it to my pfd after the first 10 minutes of it banging against my feet. I usually do keep it clipped to the pfd (for the reason you mentioned), but lately was thinking that might present a different issue of difficulty with reentry. Using the carabiner clip provided by Garmin is too loose, I think. Guess I need a different pfd that has more pockets. Cheers!

    Thanks for posting, highly educational. Two comments: First, your unwillingness to seek help is a typical guy thing. Why not to to the ER as soon as you came out--its what I would've done as a physician backpacker. Facts are friendly--its never good to pretend away serious medical problems. Second, you'll need some sort of procedure to address BPH. The classic surgery is a transurethral prostatectomy (TURP), which is probably what you're having. Wishing you so very well. I had a TURP 10 years ago at age 65, and am still going strong. Enjoy your posts, thanks...

    • @ShastaBubba
      @ShastaBubba 7 дней назад

      Thanks for this; you're partly correct that it's a typical guy thing not to seek help. However, to be completely honest, it's even more about money -- fearing the cost of a trip to the ER (even with good insurance), only for them to do nothing and send me home. Since I thought the situation was improving, that's why I delayed to the next day. As it was, the ER set me up with an indwelling Foley catheter, which I wore for a week until my Urologist appointment. That was not a fun experience and I figured out later that all I really needed was to be taught how to use a self catherter. Would have saved a lot of discomfort if they had taken the time to do that instead. You are correct about the TURP, I had that surgery in September, 2023, and it took care of everything with minor side effects. There's a lot of bad and scary information out there about the TURP being too aggressive, but the results have been great for me. Glad to hear it's still working for you 10 years later too. Thanks!!

    I know others have said it, but I feel the need to take a moment and say thank you. I think that 6'2" is right on the edge between boats. My feet touch the front, but they are against an inflatable foot rest, so there might be some adjustment there. Thanks a ton Woods! Yeah, that was a lot of work, but a really fun trip just the same. I'll be using that pack again in a couple weeks when I try again for a packrafting trip (and try to remember my paddle)!!

    Thanks for the fun video, makes us want to head out into the same area! What was the make and model of the portable campfire you used? Does it put out any warmth? Looked pretty inviting.

    • @ShastaBubba
      @ShastaBubba Месяц назад

      Thanks! It's called the Solo Stove and they make several sizes. Looks inviting, but doesn't actually radiate much heat, which is why it can sit on a picnic table and not burn a spot. Fun ambiance, but I was freezing and wishing for a real fire!!

    Thank you for this awesome video. I have just recently learned about the benefits of using trekking poles. I plan to purchase some for walking exersize. What type and brand of poles do you recommend for beginners? Also it's really nice to see that you take the time to reply to comments. Something you don't normally see on RUclips videos. Thank you and happy hiking.

    • @ShastaBubba
      @ShastaBubba Месяц назад

      Thanks so much, glad it was useful. The poles I use are the Black Diamond Carbon Cork: amzn.to/3QReFOq, but they are pretty expensive. Very durable, but you can also get the aluminum version, which are called BD Trail Cork: amzn.to/3WFHfWH and nearly as good (there's a 'womens' version too, but not sure the difference). Even better for budget beginners are the poles that Costco carries about now: www.costco.com/cascade-mountain-tech-100%25-carbon-fiber-trekking-pole%2C-2-pack-.product.4000026930.html. Of course, you get what you pay for and they might not stand up to serious hiking. Happy hiking to you as well!

    I wish I saw this video before I bought my 1P, very informative. The main reason I went with the 1P was it's color 😂. I really like the olive green color, reminds me of the old canvas tents.

    I was about to discuss options for BPH/better urination with my Dr about the same time I started hiking/rucking. My symptoms noticeably improved about 3 months in, and GREATLY improved after about a year. No meds. 59 and feeling easily 10yrs younger in that respect. Humble and grateful.

    And what if you're short of breath and need to take lots of small steps uphill? Putting the stick to the opposite leg is impossible, because I wouldn't have time to lift the sticks. I need to take really small steps, 30cm. It is health problem. Can the stick be moved once every two steps? Thank you.

    • @ShastaBubba
      @ShastaBubba Месяц назад

      You are welcome to do whatever works for you, of course! I take tiny steps when going uphill too, but just shorten the swing to match.

    Awesome video! My first-ever rafting trip was from Youngs Creek to Meadow Creek Trail. I was pretty nervous the whole time, haha! But I learned a lot. Is the section you're talking about as tricky as the route from Youngs to Meadow Creek Trail or worse?

    • @ShastaBubba
      @ShastaBubba Месяц назад

      Hey, thanks! Youngs Creek is much harder than this section of the Spotted Bear, which would be closer to the actual South Fork of the Flathead (class II). Pretty impressive first float for you!

      Ha, should have saw me turn in the wrong directions while taking lines through Hole in the Wall section. A few times panicking and rowing without my paddle actually in the water haha. Thanks for the info, this little route looks fun. I think I would try and fish blue and shelf lake to make it an overnight float.
