  • First trip to celebrate recovery from surgery and last trip of the year, this adventure became a bit more than expected due to snow and cold weather, but was worth the pain to experience the beauty of this pristine wilderness in winter. I wasn't sure how far I would make it down the trail, but however far I could travel, it felt fantastic to be on the trail again!

    Glad to hear your health is good and your motivation is strong.
    You're probably already aware, but I'll mention 'Sealskin' products: waterproof socks, gloves, beanies, etc. They also have a cover that goes over the shoe, mostly for bicyclists, but might also work for short trips through a stream. The product is good and acts as a thermo bearier as well.
    Safe travels and good health to you. Thanks for your videos! 😊

      I have heard of those and was really close to buying a pair of Sealskin socks a couple years back, but held off due to the expense and the fact that I already had the neoprene socks. Thanks for the nudge, I'll take another look at those!

    Hi Dan! It was so cool to witness your joy on your hike out, when it became clear your body was at a point of healing to do what you love again! I am so happy for you that you had a wonderful outcome and don't have that health burden to deal with anymore. Please keep the amazing videos coming! They are so fun, informative, and peaceful.

    What a great update, great to see you on the trail and thanks for sharing your health progress. So glad you're back to normal and able to enjoy being on the trail again. I'm sure many of us can understand that desire to get outside and not wait until next spring. As we all get older and face various health concerns, it's so important to talk about what we're dealing with. Thank you for making space for that.

      Many thanks for your kind reply. I did not want to mix messages, but your message about unexpected prostate problems is equally important and needs to be "out there." I had a very similar experience of suddenly no peeing with a similar unavoidable long delay in getting to treatment followed by a good recovery due, again, to a good Doc. Your point about a catheter as part of a kit may seem farfetched to many but it's spot-on. @@ShastaBubba

    Glad you are healthy enough to get to the Bob. Doing short trips to test gear is always fun and I appreciate your honesty about what you would do differently. This winter is suppose to be warmer and drier so might be more opportunities for mild winter backpacking. Have a nice holiday

    Enjoyed all that great winter scenery from Montana! Catching up with you is a good way to spend 40 minutes on a damp, blustery day here in the southeast with bad weather threatening. Good to see you back out on the trails. And really good to hear your surgery and post op recovery has gone well. Important information for those of us getting up in age. Happy Holidays!

    Very happy to watch this video today and know that you are once again healthy and managed to squeeze a trip in before the end of the year. You were instrumental in planning my 5 day trip in the Bob to see the Chinese Wall this summer. A trip I’ll never forget. I also appreciate your help in moving towards ultralight back packing. Happy Holidays and all the best for the new year.

    Hi, I have a khufu silnylon and a full solid inner for winter camping and wonder if a xmid with solid inner could be better in heavy snowfall? BR

    • @ShastaBubba
      @ShastaBubba  4 месяца назад

      Can't say for sure, not have experienced a heavy snow with either shelter; however, I would guess the Khufu would do better due to the 'long' walls of the X-Mid being not as steep as all 4 walls of the mid shape. I also think there's slightly more distance between the walls on the Khufu.
