Hi Dan! It was so cool to witness your joy on your hike out, when it became clear your body was at a point of healing to do what you love again! I am so happy for you that you had a wonderful outcome and don't have that health burden to deal with anymore. Please keep the amazing videos coming! They are so fun, informative, and peaceful.
What a great update, great to see you on the trail and thanks for sharing your health progress. So glad you're back to normal and able to enjoy being on the trail again. I'm sure many of us can understand that desire to get outside and not wait until next spring. As we all get older and face various health concerns, it's so important to talk about what we're dealing with. Thank you for making space for that.
Thanks for the kind and encouraging words. It's my hope that I can be an example for others to be open with their own challenges. Appreciate your comment very much!
You look happy. I'm glad for you, totally. Beautiful trail and scenery. I've been to the reservoir once in my life. I will never forget it. Thank you for posting.
Glad to hear your health is good and your motivation is strong. You're probably already aware, but I'll mention 'Sealskin' products: waterproof socks, gloves, beanies, etc. They also have a cover that goes over the shoe, mostly for bicyclists, but might also work for short trips through a stream. The product is good and acts as a thermo bearier as well. Safe travels and good health to you. Thanks for your videos! 😊
I have heard of those and was really close to buying a pair of Sealskin socks a couple years back, but held off due to the expense and the fact that I already had the neoprene socks. Thanks for the nudge, I'll take another look at those!
Fantastic! I share in your elation! As a 69 year old with some health problems, I am always on edge as I head out on another backpack adventure. Glad to see your still pushing the envelope!
This was such a wonderful and beautiful hike! We love this area so! Loved traveling along with you and seeing what conditions are! So hope and send positive thoughts to you with your health!!! Thank you friend!
Hell yeah! Great to see you back on trail! I love trips like this with a little snow. It drastically changes the scenery. Looking forward to your adventures in '24!
Thanks Travis, appreciate the enthusiasm!! It would be great if our paths could finally cross in 2024! Keep on making your great videos and I'll keep on binge watching them. ;-)
Glad you are healthy enough to get to the Bob. Doing short trips to test gear is always fun and I appreciate your honesty about what you would do differently. This winter is suppose to be warmer and drier so might be more opportunities for mild winter backpacking. Have a nice holiday
Enjoyed all that great winter scenery from Montana! Catching up with you is a good way to spend 40 minutes on a damp, blustery day here in the southeast with bad weather threatening. Good to see you back out on the trails. And really good to hear your surgery and post op recovery has gone well. Important information for those of us getting up in age. Happy Holidays!
Just found your site and subscribed. Very good to be in touch with your depth of experience and your ability to capture and share it. Said differently, your depth of peace and degree of at ease while dealing with your surroundings is gratifying and satisfying to experience. Many thanks.
Many thanks for your kind reply. I did not want to mix messages, but your message about unexpected prostate problems is equally important and needs to be "out there." I had a very similar experience of suddenly no peeing with a similar unavoidable long delay in getting to treatment followed by a good recovery due, again, to a good Doc. Your point about a catheter as part of a kit may seem farfetched to many but it's spot-on. @@ShastaBubba
Very happy to watch this video today and know that you are once again healthy and managed to squeeze a trip in before the end of the year. You were instrumental in planning my 5 day trip in the Bob to see the Chinese Wall this summer. A trip I’ll never forget. I also appreciate your help in moving towards ultralight back packing. Happy Holidays and all the best for the new year.
It makes me very happy to hear that you were able to have a great trip in the Bob and to have been helpful in that endeavor. Happy Holidays and hiking trails to you!
Congratulations on a successful surgery but I'm surprised you went with the Turp when there are newer less invasive procedures available. But the important thing is that you got fixed and are back out there!
So glad to know that you're doing ok. I kept checking your community channel hoping to see some good news, but this video is much better! Stay strong, be well....happy holiday's! Tom
How’s the prostate buddy? From a fellow TURP procedure in 2013 and getting close to needing a second one. On Finesride now hoping to prolong second surgery. Good luck. ❤
Thanks, all good now! Surgery was both necessary (because my prostate was huge) and successful, so counting my blessings there. Hope for a good result for you as well if you need a second trip!!
Can't say for sure, not have experienced a heavy snow with either shelter; however, I would guess the Khufu would do better due to the 'long' walls of the X-Mid being not as steep as all 4 walls of the mid shape. I also think there's slightly more distance between the walls on the Khufu.

what time of year on this hike?
November. Just about a month ago.
Hi, I have a khufu silnylon and a full solid inner for winter camping and wonder if a xmid with solid inner could be better in heavy snowfall? BR
Can't say for sure, not have experienced a heavy snow with either shelter; however, I would guess the Khufu would do better due to the 'long' walls of the X-Mid being not as steep as all 4 walls of the mid shape. I also think there's slightly more distance between the walls on the Khufu.
Thanks a lot
Why in the world would you go into the backcountry in November in Montana in those shoes??? Cool video! It's been years since I've been to The Bob.😢
I know, crazy huh? ;-) Thanks a bunch!
