Ahhh, the '70s, when girls wore their pants waist around their actual waist instead of halfway down their crack, and boys wore their pants waist around their actual waist instead of down at their knees.

My dad picked up hitchhikers all the time. Lucky for them he wasn't a pervert. Once he stopped and picked up a girl in the country with me in a small Chevy Luv truck. I was 8 months pregnant and scared..it was a tight squeeze too. I'm glad she was a decent person bc you never know.. I'm glad my dad was a good person.

Things are worse now as they were back then. Denial of such situations is horrible & can be prevented. It's worse when nobody believes you, PTSD is real & should be dealt with.

I was rape when I was young up to now I am still afraid. I would never hitched hike or trust any man. Some days I want to kill myself. I am 43 amd cannot get over being rape at 5 and 9. I just want someone to help me with it one step at a time. I cannot take it anymore. My mother called my father who was at work to come home and he said he couldn't get off. Up to this day that still hurt me. It was my mother and a pastor who took me to the hospital. When I was five I didn't go to the hospital. I guess my mother just clean me up. I feel like nobody

i used to get in cars when i was a teenager. I thank God every day for keeping me safe when i didn’t have enough sense to keep my own self safe. been in plenty of situations tht could have gone the other way. i remember i’ve asked this stranger to take me to school when I was in the 10th grade because I missed my bus and I was too afraid to tell my dad. Instead of taking me to school, he took me to his house. He pulled the car into his garage and close the garage door behind him, I was terrified. I kept praying that I would be able to go to school. He walked me in the house and I asked him to take me to school as soon as possible because I didn’t want to be late and get in trouble. He told me to sit on the couch. I begged him to take me to school. I wouldn’t sit down. I started acting nervous. And I guess he realized that I will be more trouble than I was worth. by the grace of God he took me to school. That’s just one story of my stupidity getting into cars. Lord, I thank you for keeping me.

I hitchhiked twice during my younger days (14 in NYC, then 16 in my new homeland in Europe), and they were both close calls, I was really very very lucky. The problem is that there were no Sexual education nor talks at home in many cases. I was schooled in a private catholic school run by mean Nuns. Everything was taboo, there was absolutely no-one I could've talked with about anything, plus I was growing up in a toxic home. I went to the ocean with a neighborhood buddy and his mom and brother (never allowed outside if not to walk 10 blocks to school, but my parents were divorcing then and it allowed a few short weeks of freedom at age 14), they dumped my head under the water for jokes and I got angry because I couldn't swim and thought I was going to drown, so I ran off to hitchhike back home to Ridgewood. A group of 3 older guys let me hop in the car, I was innocent and ignorant of any danger. The one driving started telling me to touch his thing and asked if I've ever seen one (I don't recall of the visual, but I clearly remember my strong emotions and fear, the thing whatever it was I was thinking terrorized me, and no I didn't know what it was. At home my parents always walked around clothed and I never saw my little brother's things, I didn't even know we were made differently in that era. I knew I had to control my emotions and NOT let them know that I was afraid, nor that I didn't agree, in case my resistance blew any chance of me succeeding to leave that car safely. I faked being cool : my intuition and survival instinct immediately switched on. I told them I agreed to go to the party they proposed me to go to with them but I asked to be dropped off in my neighborhood first, because it was my Grandma's birthday and I needed to see her for a little while. Of course they never saw me again. But I realize that things could've went otherwise and they could've gang raped me, maybe kill me. Then I missed the bus from the city to return back to my aunt's house and she would've gotten angry at me. It wasn't my fault, the classes lasted a few minutes longer that day and the next bus was an hour later. So I hitchhiked and an elderly driver (40 when I was 16 seemed like 80 to me then 🤣) stopped to give me a ride towards the area I lived in. On the way there, while driving, he suddenly pulled out a 100 sfr bill and wanted me to take it, I didn't know exactly what it was all about, but my instincts knew that it was NOT OKAY and that I was in danger. Again I pretended to be cool, and didn't show my emotions. I told him (with my very little French back then) that I needed to stop for a few minutes to reassure my grandmother 🤣 always my imaginary grandma who didn't live anywhere nearby me 😏 but she was always my leitmotiv), so he made a quick stop where I told him to, I hopped out and shouted at him :See over there!!? Is the police station... Blablabla 😂 he drove off quick as hell. After that I never ever ever hitchhiked, and I am always super aware of my environment. My mother was narcissistic and violent. I wonder if my strong instincts for survival and the way I go into a special psychological mindset when in danger has something to do with it? I think so. I remained a very joyful positive minded person but I feel as if I had a special training and abilities thanks to that during my life.

I don't know why this was such an epidemic drain the 80s and 90s when young men were killing themselves but living through those times and seeing the difference in the 2020 I absolutely understand the struggle that young men were going through . Demonization of masculinity and the push to feminized men cause a lot of confusion in our generation and it really hasn't gotten better .
