- In New York City in the early 1900's (1902), a wealthy young orphan is resigned to marrying a "socially acceptable" man when she meets and falls in love with a Swiss immigrant. She struggles to make her choice, weighing her relatives' expectations against what she feels in her heart. Starring June Lockhart, Marie Osmond, Timothy Bottoms.
I am nearly 65. I remember watching this movie when I was still living at home with my parents. I could not remember any details, only that Marie Osmond was a main character. I am so thankful to have finally found the movie and was able to relive the memories from watching it as a young girl. Such a beautiful story, blessed are those that experienced such love. Saving this to watch again each Christmas! Boo to Hallmark movies, they are so predictable. THIS was perfect!!
I remember the film too and knew it was Marie in the lead ..fancy finding it after all these years..

I am 70 years young and O’Henry stories have always enchanted me . I watched many of these when I was a very young girl along with my late mother, and we were so in awe of the written story line. I ended up working for the Vanderbilt! The cast is brilliant.
What a nice movie. May the Lord bring LOVE and HOLY MATRIMONY between man and woman back to the USA.

How many TV movies do we see that we remember 40+ years later? This is one of those few for me. I was living on my own away from my family for the first time and this movie really connected with me. That it featured Marie Osmond did not hurt. Her warmth comes through. I am glad I can find it here on RUclips at this time of year.

This movie is very well made and such beautiful costumes! Please read the original story The Gift of the Magi. That one is a little more bittersweet. Also, there is a 1952 movie titled O Henry's Full House with 5 short stories including The Gift of the Magi with Jean Crain and Farley Granger as the lovelorn couple. The other stories include Marilyn Monroe, Charles Laughton, Anne Baxter and Dale Robertson. Funny and touching film.

Is the name of the story. The husband bought her a beautiful hair comb for her lovely long hair. He exchanged his pocket watch to purchase the beautiful hair comb. In turn his wife cut off her long, beautiful hair so she could buy the pocket watch chain for his pocket watch. I remember watching this story when I was a little girl, and I was so enchanted and in love with the story .

I was 20...time sure flies. There was still some innocence left in those days albeit fleeting. There were a lot of films based upon books with morality, romance, etc. I feel sad for the young people these days...what is to become of this world?

When the boy praises the girl's hair, and the girl shows interest in the boy's watch, I know it has to be that old, familiar O. Henry's story of Christmas. I didn't know the *whole* story, though. (Perhaps, did I only read an excerpt sixty years ago?) A beautiful heart-warming story. Okay, now I know the whole story as well as its title. Never too late to know.

And yet if you want to read about a daughter who follow through on her father‘s altered purpose towards her read a book called Jeffers daughter it’s shocking, how her daughter followed through and not because itNot because of the injury to her but to her child fight for freedom it is riveting
