lovely jubley steve, thanks for sharing.
What diameter main line do you recommend ? There is a school of thought with Bolo fishing, that the mainline needs to be a tad heavier than what you would use with a stick or waggler approach. Think that the idea is that a heavier line is less likely to stick to the rod blank. Do you agree Steve ? Thanks
0.16 to 0.18 is about right could go heavier but it will affect presentation if to thick
@@SteveMaher-ft5xx ok many thanks. Nice video.
Hi Steve, what kind of rod are you using?
Its a 6metre telescopic bolo, rod
Nice video steve
Nice video steve
Nice video steve
Can you tell us the make and model as there seem to be a load of rubbish bolo rods out there
nice one... thats a bitta mee that.... not got a bolo rod yet i only come back to fishing just after lockdown having been a keen match enthusiast in my early 20's...still approach it like its a match.. and have the urge still to compete if ya like ... love the long whip with flick tip, i have a soft 6m graphite pole thats fun to use..strangely the elastic fishing for carp in a puddle does absolutely nothing for me its soulless.... natural venues are the real challenge .... this river wye really is the wembley at the moment i hope it lasts
Great viewing excellent informative video, the listen there is to not give up on a days fishing because River is high and rising just get out there and have a go and the feeder looks like the way to go, be very difficult to float fish in that flow and depth of water. Great Video Steve.
Just found you. My type of fishing. Living beside the Hampshire Avon and Dorset Stour. Roach heaven. Lovey well no nonsense videos. Well done. At 72, i cant be doing with these premadana superstars
Brilliant fishing that’s the way to do it 😻
Hi Steve, loved this video, thanks. Could i ask you a question? I notice on some of your videos you have your bait tray on the right hand side, do you find this better than the left? Thanks
Quality bit of fishing mate 👌🎣
that looks a great swim to mee.... superb with the bonus lumps.. if you could film this in black and white..smoke a pipe and the sound of the steam trains...it would look like you are fishing in 1958 .... nice vid
Fantastic job in difficult conditions. How much particles went into the initial mix. Thanks keep them coming.
2 pints of hemp and caster thanks
Thanks Steve, were you only feeding micro pellets or pellet and ground bait in the feeder?
Pinch of 4mm pellet with GB in cage feeder
Great blog liking the location 👍🏻
Great video again Steve, thanks.
great all round vid, i enjoyed and thanks for sharing steve, regards mick.
Thanks Steve, loving your videos, full of great advice and content 👍
I'm a big fish angler steve. Its really interesting watching how you do things. I spend my entire life trying to get my hookbait to replicate my feed and its noticeable that you commonly do the opposite... In this instance, feed groundbait and particles that are going to pretty much stay static on the riverbed, and whizz a (different) hookbait 'above' the feed at the speed of the flow. I really have my doubts that this is going to work for a shoal of six big chub as opposed to six hundred 1/2lb fish but I'm going to give it a try.
The Groundbait brings them in it breaks down quickly with particles breaking away when the fish start feeding on it. The bigger chub will be targeted with loosfeed like maggot usually in known big fish swims, fishing waggler, stick floats or maggot feeder
Do you attach the waggler rigs loop to loop to your mainline then Steve and always have the loop above the float ! Seems great to do the rigs at home that way but i worry that presentation and rig strength will be compromised.
Be good to do a guide or line 7 no 4 = 15 no 8 as a new person to river fishing and tying own rigs from scratch. !! Always learning … thanks
Great info thanks…
Thanks… insightful; Just learning the art of river pole , how do you decide what gram float to use mate cos depth etc ?
Usual the flow dictate what weight I will use, generally if the float body rides out with the bristle tilted 45 degrees the float is too light, I select heavier until the float bristle settles vertical against the flow, when the float is held still against the flow.
Enjoyed this video Steve looking forward to the next one. I’m glad you showed the self hooking of dace when you mend the line . This happens to me loads of times fishing a tight line on a waggler on the Ribble , usually bigger fish as well.
By looking at the bushes there’s hardly any wind. So why is it so noisy?
Was pretty windy enough to blow against the microphone
lovely catch.
The waggler weights are a great idea, just wish the bore was little bigger. Nice, informative video Steve.
How long do you tie the rigs before putting them onto winders? Please reply for waggler, stick and bolo rigs. Thanks in advance.
Mostly 6Ft, heavy sticks longer , depends how deep the water you fish is. Deeper water longer rigs
Loving the Videos, Steve thank you for sharing. The way You fish the rivers, Look forward to the next one. 👍
Thanks 👍
Hi Steve, thanks for the great video. I also use waggler weights but I lock mine with float stops and I just wanted to ask qwhy you don't use them. Thanks.
Could use them but prefer shot it's more versatile, can bring spare shot into play
Top stuff on a tricky day.
Which stretch are you on mate? Is it the Bewdley Angling day ticket stretch above the bridge?
Near there yes
Hi hello welll done good job 👍 can you drive to the peg in your car 🚘 thank you ???
Great video Steve, what a lovely stretch of river, really enjoyed it, thanks.
Good video Steve, what make of main line and hook length do you use please.
Great video but defiantly get yourself a wireless microphone it will really improve the video, top fishing though
Steve, great video, lovely location, nice simple approach'.. I enjoyed your day thankyou shame about the background with the water but im sure you didn'tnt know that till you got to the edit stage lovely bit of river an ever so exiting to see what you might hook! keep them coming mark
Thanks 👍
Excellent video Steve proper fishing at its best 👍
Great video Steve, really enjoyed it, Cheers.
i enjoyed that, thanks steve. even the bees were getting in on the act, aah summer magic, life dont get any better dose it, regards mick.
Great video Steve loved it Boss to see a top angler fishing the way I love to fish. I also think the one you done on the Stick float on the Avon is one of the best I’ve seen. I’m off to our local river Douglas to catch some dace and maybe a chub now , so keep up the good work
Glad you enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks glad you enjoyed it
Fabulous Steve Great to see you back. Do you make your rigs up on winders? If so, do you use the same line.👍
Mix have a few on winders if needed for a quick set up. Same lind as reel line
Great to see a new video Steve, I have been looking forward to seeing another one for a while. Re- re-watched the flat float one only yesterday. Is that Arley/Highley Country Park area? I never fished up there but have been by on the train many times and on my bike once or twice. I only fished down by Stourport (Lickhill) and would love to fish up that way one day soon. I appreciate the work that goes in to making these when really all you want to do is fish but we all learn a lot from them so please keep up the good work. Thanks
Thanks yes upstream of Arley can be good but sometimes gets busy with barbel angler's
Hi Steve, by my estimation 0.18 mainline is way bigger than three to four pounds. Did you mean 0.15 or 0.16? Your 0.12 hooklength equals about three and a half pounds breaking strain in old money? Yes? I can’t be doing with line diameters. Can you just confirm the sizes of line you were using, please? Cheers. A great video by the way. A fabulous afternoon that I am keen to emulate myself.
The old lines are massively wrong on stated diameters, nothing wrong with them, they're still very usable when you know their true diameter This vid I used Preston Pro Float diameter 0.18 is 4lb
Would love to know what stretch you were fishing.
I know what you mean about needing the line to break when youre in a snag. Trying to break the line when youre stuck in a snag whilst using 15lb line and your thinking to yourself is my bale arm going to snap. 15lb line breaks nearer 20lb and its a nightmare when youre snagged up
Never use 15lb reel line for that reason plus if you break off such heavy line it can create another snag in the swim
Steve is it a 3 piece rod or a 2 piece I’m thinking of buying one
It's a three piece rod Free Spirit Hi S 13ft special, you can get the 12ft model in two piece, both very good rods
Thanks for all of your videos Steve. It has helped an average angler like myself no end. I was just wondering could you tell me what mono you use for stick float & topper fishing. Cheers, John
A lot of the lads I fish matches with on the Tees use the Preston accu power in 0.14 for the stick. It floats well and comes off the reel nicely. Always put a bit of grease on the line for three foot above the float, makes a big difference
@@terryyakamoto3488 Cheers Terry
Why have got a keepnet
Hello Steve, excellent explanations of what float to use as the peg dictates. Do you have a rod preference for your stick float fishing and have you had any line behind the spool issues in windy conditions with those TDR reels?
Tri cast and Daiwa make excellent Stick Float rods, Cadence also worth a look. 14 and 15ft are best choices for stick float. Don't overfill the spool with line never fill to the top of the lip, line can coil off too quickly, easily pushed or blown under the spool, have a look at my Stick Float Magic Video to see my reel spool up close
Bostin, as they say around me. See you are using your own brand keepnet, they still available??
Nets unfortunately not available now
Nice fishing Steve i fish the same way on the Thames also I use your stick floats you can’t beat a good days river fishing 😻
