My Squier Sonic HSS strat is a much better deal. All I did with it was replace the bridge pup with a DiMarzio Super Distortion, replaced the volume and tone pots with quality 500k pots, a five-way switch, and adjusted the action. It's been perfect. Much better value considering I paid $120 for it with tax and already owned the replacement parts. It's a great mod platform and I mod all my guitars anyhow. I'm a player, not a collector.

My 1972 USA Fender strat has thw identical black Fender logo. Are you telling that my 53 year old guitar is not a Fender?

This is a hurried move by Fender to counteract the 25% tariffs imposed on mexican goods into the U.S., they had to come up with a cheaper line made in a non taxed country, to fill the void the mexican guitars will leave, as they will be 25% more expensive soon.

I don’t think there is anything unethical at all in buying a Chibson UNLESS, as you said yourself, you intend to sell it as a genuine Gibson. I’m sure this happens sometimes but anyone who buys anything second hand without doing their due diligence is either a gambler or a fool. People like me buy a Chibson ‘cause they can’t afford the real thing. This means that Gibson are not losing sales because we wouldn’t be buying their guitars anyway. As for using the Gibson logo, why not? Again, I’m not going to try and sell it as a Gibson, so what’s the problem? A further reason for buying a Chibson is that they allow you to experiment in ways that you wouldn’t dare if they were the real deal. Want to play amateur luthier? Go right ahead and make your mistakes.

You hit the nail on the head; you’re buying a logo. You’ll still need to do all the things you do with cheap guitars like put on new strings and bridge set-up. File the fret ends, and nut. Upgrade to locking tuners and maybe swapping out the pups. But you spent more money to have that shape with that logo on the headstock!

Could’a, should’a bought a Tease Guitar Strat or Tele for half the price and twice the quality and tonality! No I don’t own or work for Tease and never received anything free from them. I’m just a super satisfied customer of 2 of their outstanding guitars!😊

Actually, those pickups are pretty good. I think they are the best sounding inexpensive pickups out there. 😊 I wouldn't want them on a $600 guitar though 😢

Not sure exactly what's wrong with the trem tension? Lots of people set them up to float.

I think the telecaster has a box switch which is a pass for me. I don't love the ceramic pickups in a strat.

It's horrible... and have you seen the "Butterscotch Blonde"? You can see three pieces of wood with different grains and tones. If the one with the semi-translucent finish looks this bad, I don't even want to imagine what's under that shiny paint. A real rubbish! Everything in that series is wrong! By the way... I want the Peavey Bandit review!!!

Anyone else remember when buying a guitar with fender on the headstock meant it came with a hard case? Also this isn’t the first time Fender has gone through a period of mass production of cheap dog poo (early 90s) and lost sales and then had to revamp quality to win folks back.

One thing you didn’t mention unless I missed it was body thickness. Is it full size or 1.5” like a squier affinity? Not that it makes a big difference but I’m just trying to see how they justify the price at $599. So far what I see, is thicker trem block, better saddles, full size pots, fender cts or similar switch, and possibly a thicker body. Does this all make it worth what they are asking? It’s hard to tell and everyone has their own opinion, but I don’t think it does. Being a squier player for years and owning many of them, even pro tone series guitars, I’d take a hard pass at buying this, just because it’s a fender or so they say. I’d even take an older vintage modified squier over this. The pickups alone are a slap in the face given that even classic vibes have real alnicos. My guess is they will run this series for a year and then do some upgrades then ask for more money lol. Yeah I’ll pass!

You keep saying it's like an Affinity but as an owner of nothing but cheap Squiers I can see from here it's not as good as my Affinity. I can't believe that's $500. That thing would street for $100 the way I see it. It's as if they tried to make a counterfeit of their own guitar and didn't do as well as most people at home could. Give me a Squier Standard over that thing.

Reminds me of those Fender Modern Player Series, which were made in China, except those had cool features and were like “one of a kind”, these Standard seem to be awful. The Mexican Standards were great instruments. Too bad for Fender, they used to make some fine instruments, now they’re overpriced O.K guitars.

Finally, an honest review of a guitar. Thank You. Fender keeps marketing existing products as new models implementing very minor changes for an increase in price that's really not justified. Case in point aside of this one, the Ultra II series. I have a Tele and Strat Ultra, which are great, but why would I upgrade to a II series and pay $300 more for fancier paint and an angled switch on the Tele. I have a Fender BJ IV, which is great, but why should I upgrade and pay $300 ($999) more for the 30th Anniversary model that claims to have some supposed modification to the preamp circuit and a fancier skin cover.

The Schaller Vintage Trem is the greatest OFR compatible bridge ive ever played. I dont like locking nuts and all that. I keep tune just fine with a graphtech tusq nut.

I agree with you. Fender is just becoming a greedy corporation at this point. This is a squire. It is made in the same factory as Squire. I prefer an MIM or a Squire Classic Vibe. Both are miles better than this charade.

So you paid about $150 more for a Classic Vibe Squier to have maybe better keys and Fender logo on the headstock.
