    Hey dude!
    I appreciate your passion for offsets! But I just wanted to kindly point out a few things.
    You neglected to mention the Vintera II Jaguar which can be had used for about $900ish. The trem placement being closer to the bridge makes no tonal difference, Mike Adams has a video where he did a test and found no tonal difference. The closer trem provides a better break angle and reduces the need to shim the neck. the lead circuit is essentially a 1 meg 3 way switch with the strangle switch. The Player 2 just has the 1 meg pots.
    I can say I was super skeptical about the player II Jaguar prior to playing one. In short, it sounds awesome.
    To answer your question who is this for? I think this is for the causal fan or a person who wants their first offset but doesn’t care for the switches. Which believe it or not, is quite a few people. Oddly enough, The original Player Series Jaguar has been the best selling Jaguar in the fender line up for the past few years…and that’s including the squiers. Overall the Player Series isn’t intended to be vintage accurate, for that we have the Vintera. But considering the new affinity Jaguar that was announced a few weeks back. There’s symmetry between the line ups
    Affinity = Player II = American Performer
    Classic vibe = Vintera II = American Vintage II
    Contemporary = American Professional
    Player Plus = American Ultra
    Anyways, I enjoyed the video!
    Cheers! 🙏🏾

      I don't think it matters to most people, but a normal Jazzmaster is designed for the notes to fall off quickly because they lack sustain AND it is designed to be played with 11s or 12s.

    6:28 The Classic Player line was a vaguely vintage accurate line NOT a modern reinterpretation like a the players.
    The Vibrato is closer to the Bridge because you’re able to set up on lighter strings easier and less need for shimming because you’ve got enough downward tension.
    Adjustable saddles suck on Jazzmasters and Jaguars. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. Too many moving parts and rattles all the time.
    If you want a vintage accurate Jaguar BUY A VINTAGE STYLE JAGUAR. Vintera I or II are both within a similar price range to this.
    You’ve completely missed the mark on this take. The point of this series is that it’s a simplified and more usable guitar for the modern player, not a classic vintage style guitar. Fender have been doing stuff like this with their lines for decades, look at the 90s. You could get a telecaster plus (hyper modern) or a telecaster AV52’ Reissue (accurate classic) for within a few hundred £s of each other.
    I like Jaguars. I’ve got 3 (AVRI62, JG66 and VM) that are my main guitars. All kept to vintage specs with a few mods here and there. However I also like the simplified look on the new Jaguar too, I feel like that’s a pretty common take?

  • @shckltnebay

    Hey, Jake... Thanks for the schooling on Jags. It looks like this guitar was marketed towards folks that never had a Jaguar and just buy a new Jag, unaware of the complexities of the originals. Or, they could just be like me and enjoy the simplicity of these newer Jags. Good call on the string length behind the bridge. I'm sure you can hear the difference. I probably can't. But, I can see how that would give the guitar its "shimmery" sound.

    I don't understand why they removed it either because the Vintera II Jaguar has a rhythm circuit so the Factory in Mexico is more than capable of putting one in? The Rosewood on the Player II series is Slab Rosewood ('59-62) which makes refrets easier since you have more material to work with than Round-Laminate. The necks are also tinted... I wonder if this is a response due to the popularity of the tinted necks on the Squier 40th Anniversary models.

    I don't get it. Either the guitar comes like it did on day one or anything is up for grabs. Including the things our host prefers which are totally one person's choice. I think his ideas are nuts. The bridge was moved because players on average like 09 and 10 gauge strings and the original was made to use 11's. If you use 9s or 10s and strum vigorously strings can fly right off the saddles in the middle of a tune on the original placement. Add to that many players use dirt sounds and that so call resonant chime can start to feedback with a very discordant ring. As for the switch on the upper plate hundreds of guys hate it. It is awkward to use and on dark stages it impossible to see. A toggle or blade switch can be quickly mastered in the dark. As for the colors they were chosen from from American Motors, GM and Ford's color choices in the 50's. So they are not new neither is the idea to use them. But like Sea Foam Green and Daphne Blue they too were rejected when new. The most uncool Fender to own was a Jag or Jazz when they were new. I know I'm 77 and was there in the shops at the time. If you bought one you would be endlessly verbally ridiculed by other players. FACT!!! Were they wrong?? No more wrong than our host about what makes a great guitar. For a young guy he thinks older than me WTF!!

    i’m always pleased to see different takes on Jaguars. However, has not put out a jaguar with classic specs in this price ranch ever I guess you could get a Japanese made one if you really want to, but they usually cost around $1000 the point of the player series to bring an entry-level price for Mexico quality and I’m guessing that the rhythm circuit in the added wiring would push the guitar over $900 which would be a problem for buyers. I would also mention that to to make infinitely more telecasters than Jaguars, which is probably also why they get the short end of the stick.

      One of the perennial complaints about Jaguars and Jazzmasters is that the strings pop off the bridge too easily. Fender addressed that issue by moving the tailpiece a bit closer to the bridge. not only the offsets which are vomit inducing, even the player stratocaster really sucks, it has bullet squier level pickups and damn you're lucky if you get half decent frets.

    the rhythm circuit is the most useless thing ever implemented in guitars. theres a reason no one uses it, only reason you and other people want it is for looks. the best jaguar fender makes is the johnny marr because it does away with all that useless garbage and gives you real tone options. you seem to own a lot of cheap crap guitars anyway so maybe stop buying crap that cuts corners and get a guitar with the features you want and you won't be so mad about it

    I feel that the Tom Delonge Strat is not a Strat because of all the "Strat Spec Features" that are missing on that model. Charging more money for a "Strat" that cheats you out of two pickups and all of the tonal options of having three pickups with a 5-way switch. The Jaguar is doing the same. Cheating you out of "Jaguar Spec Features" and tonal circuitry options. Good job of calling out this guitar trend. We cheapened it up and we are charging you more money for less guitar because we made changes to its specs.

    • @bciecko1
      @bciecko1 Месяц назад

      You're not paying the money because it's a strat model and you aren't buying a strat for that guitar, you're buying a signature model that is based off a strat. That is a distinction that needs to be considered.

    • @willswanderings6912
      @willswanderings6912 Месяц назад +1

      @@bciecko1 I understand that aspect of having a signature model and wanting a guitar like a specific person. But let's get real. Buy any cheaper Surf Green Fender Strat that has a humbucker in the bridge position, buy a single, humbucker in the bridge position pickguard, and take out the two unwanted pickups. You could even replace the pot and the pickup with the Seymour Duncan one. And you could use the removed pickups for something else. It would still be way less than $1300. I know there are people without my skills that can't do these changes on their own and the changes by a luthier might increase the cost so much that the Tom Delonge may be the better option. Or they may just want to get the guitar and play it immediately and not want to wait on a luthier to do the work. Maybe the resale value drives the Tom Delonge option. If you are worried so much about the resale value, then you truly are not sure you are going to keep it, or you could be buying it from a collector's standpoint. I have no problem with any of the reasons anyone would buy a Tom Delonge guitar. I understand all the nuances that attract those buyers. I am not saying it is a bad guitar. I am not saying people shouldn't buy one. I am saying that it is not a fully equipped Strat, for the money, in my opinion. That is why I compared it to Jake's opinion that the modern Jaguars are missing key features that make a Jaguar a Jaguar.

    • @bciecko1
      @bciecko1 Месяц назад +1

      @@willswanderings6912 I get that and agree on all aspects except the fact that it is not a Strat for Strats sake. It's not supposed to be. It's like racecar right, it's an approximation of the car it started as, nothing more and shouldn't be seen or thought of a car as much as a race car. The signature model isn't a Strat, it's a signature model. Th value comes in that limited run. Now, there could be other features unique to it too. For example, the Cory Wong Strat. Those have smaller bodies. Very unique feature for sure. It's a Strats strat in every other way though.
      I have a signature guitar, the Kurt Cobain Signature Mustang. I had the Jag too but way too heavy, plus o prefer a regular jag versus his hot-rodded HH version. The value in the guitar comes from the fa t it's a signature model, not the parts or components or features. You can buy an American Mustang and put a Set out Duncan JB in the bridge and a TOM bridge and it'll be worth a grand used. The Japanese model that sold for $850, new, back in 2012, is now worth $2k. The value is in the exclusivity and the fact that it's made as a signature model and not simply a modded regular version. Signature models have features unique to the artist they came from, especially if designed with and not simply modeled after.
      So my point is only that it doesn't really matter what price point it sits at, those that actually want this Strat aren't buying it because it's based off a Strat. The demographic for this is the Blink 182 fan. They're buying this because it is the different and special model first and only. If you want a type of guitar, you never buy a signature model, those are always approximations. You want a Strat, I agree, go buy a Strat, not someone's signature model.

    yes you have a point because Fender made a guitar that Jaguar fans don't want, but honestly you are overreacting a bit, yeah at that price point there is no accurate Jaguar and that sucks but if you spend a bit more there is the Vintera or the Kurt Cobain models and at a lower price point you have the Classic Vibe.
    you have 20+ guitars behind you (assuming that they are yours and you don't work as a tech) just sell a couple and get a vintera or a Kurt Cobain model
    maybe the only issue with fender is that they don't offer higher end Jaguar models, and I would criticize that, but at the price point you are complaining about there are accurate Jaguar guitars not far off
    people on the internet are right some guitarists can be obnoxious on the smallest details that really don't matter when it comes to playing music. this is an instrument not a fashion trend

    I feel the same way, the Jag gets zero respect from Post CBS Fender. They always ignore the real fans and cater to the whiners - who really should be playing something else that they actually like - instead of wasting everybody’s time moaning about the Jaguar and demanding unneeded changes just because they’re too dumb to figure out the switching, and how to set up the original designed ones properly.

    Fender is bullshit*
    Easily could make the best instruments at great price points but are only interested in riding nostalgia and pumping out horrible take down models that are overpriced.
    Epiphone has closed the gap with squire, PRS obliterated both epiphone and squire take down models, and Sire came into the bass scene by putting out high quality options that clear the fender “player”
    Models by a landslide.
    Only reason to go fender is if you have the money for an American made one. Its the only thing they make that actually reflects the price point
