Also love the Celine Dion meets Johnny Marr vibes
Glad you liked that!
Come for the gear, stay for the Celine snippet!
Yay, welcome back rosewood! For whatever reason Pau Ferro always just reminds me of the old low end guitars in the early 00s. My favorite guitar is an American Strat and the rosewood just looks amazing. I know guitars aren’t always about looks, but the fretboard is the one thing you look at the most. Pau Ferro just always looks so dry and starved even when you condition it. With that said, I own plenty of Pau Ferro guitars which I love. My squier classic vibes are great and my Jackson SLX is great too
It's funny because Pau Ferro used to be a premium and custom wood for fretboards xD
The reason you don't like it.. Is because Pau Ferro needs to be treated in a nice oil.. Danish Oil or Tongue oil to bring out the beautiful grain. It darkens and all the grain comes out... And.. It stops looking like a desert.
What fender is doing.. Is slapping on a raw un treated Pau Ferro fret board. And of course everybody hates it and thinks it's dry.. It untreated wood.
Diggin the shirt so much i bought one..wife loves it too!
Glad to support your work! 62 yr old boomer player here
haha your Pao Ferro comment made me laugh. PF is a great and stunning wood by any other standard, i don't get people's hate. Everyone has a preference but the "tradition" marketing powers are STRONG out there!
It looks shit.
Exactly so!
It doesn't look very nice and feels really dry. I like my Vintera Jaguar but not having a rosewood fretboard is a little bit of a disappointment.
For me it’s somewhat about the visual aesthetics. I’ve always preferred dark rosewood over light or streaky rosewood. But more importantly to me and why I don’t like pau ferro is that it a cost effective substitute to rosewood, and it looks like that’s. Fender is already charging between $850-$1200 for these Mexican made guitars and they couldn’t put rosewood on them? Meanwhile the American performers and pro II have rosewood for only a few hundred dollars more. Just doesn’t make sense to me. They’re trying to cut corners to while still charging an overpriced amount and that sentiment it reflected in their end product. Now that CITES has lifted they brought back rosewood and yet again raised the prices.
And this is just the initial first production run. In the coming years I imagine they’ll release limited runs for dealers or one off special lines that they can charge even more for.
Well said. I actually prefer Pau Ferro to Rosewood.
I picked one up and played it in Guitar Center today, same guitar, same color, same model. Sounded great.
I also did the same last sunday. Great guitar.
"I sniff a lot of things" I always wondered what young Bobby Hill would grow up to be. I had really been leaning toward prop comic, but I'm happy to learn that you've found a home on youtube hunting guitars, Bobby.
I like that you are the first to pop the hood and see what’s inside so far
I have a 70s Mustang with the same scale.
I use 9-42s on it, and the slacker feel means I do lots of bends and finger vibrato on it a bit differently than other guitars, and gives me a cool sound.
But of course YMMV
I am so getting this guitar. Love this thing and thanks for the overview Jeremy!
Let me know how it goes! If you’re ordering one online, use the links in the description and I’ll get a small commission
Shame that they didn't include birch green for the Jag, I might pickup the Mustang instead, don't really need the trem anyway.
Awesome review! Can you break down how you achieved the tone from 7:10-7:45?
Neck pickup into a Deluxe reverb on 5 or so and a JHS Morning Glory V4 driving it.
Ok, I too now have the Titanic theme stuck in my head DRAW ME LIKE YOUR FRENCH GIRLS 😂
My work is done here
I love the side to side switching. I always accidentally smack the switch when I don’t wanna change pickups 😂
I am between the Mustang or Jazzmaster.. maybe both? 😅
I MUST SAY JEREMY, YOU PERFECTED YOUR CRAFT AT REVIEWING AND DEMOING GUITARS! Great points and well played bits!
curious. How does it compare to miami blue in person? I have a miami blue strat and it is way more green to the naked eye than on film. is aquatone bluer? greener? about the same? less saturated? lighter? thanks!
Wow I think they really nailed it with this one. Really fantastic tones - love that characteristic Jaguar growl/snarl.
Great review! I love the clarity.
Wonder how the bases are
I have Pau Ferro on my fender jaguar, and I don't mind it at all. If nobody would have told me i would have thought nothing special about it
Very informative. I'm looking to get a Jaguar - not sure whether to get a Player or a Vintera.
If they just offered Birch Green as a color option for this guitar, I would've bought it INSTANTLY
Sweetwater has them.
I have a fairly rare metallic sage green player strat from their first year of production. I love it and would only change one thing and that is the pau ferro fretboard. There is nothing wrong with it functionally but rosewood is a much nicer aesthetic and as many say The aesthetic is one of the things that make you love your guitar.
Cool review. Unpopular opinion based on some comments here but I never found the rhythm circuit useful, at least for my taste.
I might have to check this one out, still has that quacky jag sound which is good for cleans and ambient things and the shoegaze thing as you’ve displayed. Just wish there was one in black with a white or tortoise shell pickguard, just a preference.
Another unpopular opinion is imo Fender should just cut a deal with Mastery Bridge already and have all of their offset guitars, well besides Mustangs, already installed on them already. Because they’re impossible to intonate with the cheap bridges they have in them that is unless you have the money to spend to get them set up all the time.
Anyways, cool new line of the Jaguar with those minor exceptions, thanks for the demo.
I’m with you on Pau Ferro
I love the way rosewood looks, but pau ferro feels better to me.
I wonder if they know most of there market intended for the line isn’t traveling with it or maybe only taking 1-2 guitars with them and have a case already. Wish I could’ve got one of these to review on my channel and ride this wave….maybe someday 😂 I’ll be in the club
I just don’t understand how Squier can include the rhythm circuits and full controls for a Jaguar and Jazzmaster, but Fender can’t on the Mexican Players
It’s true but also, the rhythm circuit is obnoxious to live with. I like the more simple versions. The player series is more of the essential aspects of these models. Spend less money or money to get the rhythm circuit.
id buy this one just for the color wow
(first time seeing your channel) You are so good at reviewing! Thank you for the detailed explanations and really informed opinions.
Thanks! I really love doing this. Let me know if I can help!
Would it pass to play some Johnny Marr tunes? :)
I've been wanting a jazzmaster for about a year. I might get this one in blue.
Love Jags. That color is fantastic.
Me too! It’s by far my favorite of this series. The green on the tele rules.
Sounds kinda like the P90 Paranormal Statosonic that I have, jangle and grittty.
I put those tuners on my early 2000s MIM Strat. They are indeed a very nice upgrade.
Super pumped for the player ii. Something to compliment the American line without breaking my the bank!!
That guitar and the playing was beautiful. But can you please do a video on how to play that Celine Dion chordal riff 🙏
nobody mentions the 24" scale. that's what i like best.
It’s beautifully jangly
Sounds great. I want one to mod.
I went to Guitar Center and tried the Player II, which was good, as is the original Player. However, it feels like a marketing tactic to rebrand overproduced stock with vintage tuners and aged plastic, calling it Player II to boost novelty and sales. This approach makes my MIM Player seem inferior, pushing me to buy the same guitar again with minor tweaks. While the Player II might be cool, it's frustrating to feel manipulated. MIM guitars are great-just sell them without making previous models seem outdated.
Rosewood isn't a new guitar.. It's a cool option
Vintage Tuners.. Same
Aged pickup covers.. Same.
Now the Jaguar looks cool.. Full on new pickups.. Ok noted. but it should just be an option thrown in to the Players.. Not a Player II.
I just think that calls out the Player Is as lessor and it's not true.
I mean if you like the options great man! Get the player II.. Like if you just love Rose wood... But if you don't care.. and your on the fence about a player I.. because you think it's less then a player II.. Then man.. Just get the Player I.. It's not a worse guitar. That's all Im saying.
This means on Reverb.. People are dumping the player 1s!!! That means if you love upgrading guitars.. A bunch of awesome $300 Player 1s getting dumped. Perfect upgrade platforms.
I don't consider this a Jaguar by the way.. It's more like a cool paranormal. I do think it's cool though!
Way cool! One of the great things about MIM Fenders is that they are great modding platforms (I’ve redone my early 2000s tele all over). Is the routing on this Jag able to accept vintage guards and wiring, especially the tone/rhythm circuit?
Absolutely! They can grow with you. I didn’t check but am going to see what’s under there.
@@JeremySheppard You can save yourself the time if you haven't gone in yet: the 60 Cycle Hum video went in, and this version of the Jag does not have a rhythm circuit rout.
It does have humbucker routes, I just checked.
I'll take a sideways switch over sandpaper feeling pao ferro any day
They should bring out a mim johnny marr Jaguar in sherwood green, i would buy it in a Heartbeat
I wish they did the strat with the blue and the rosewood.
I bet it’s too similar to the American pro II
1MEG POTS LETS GO
I am considering buying one of these... I already have a hard case that fits the tele / strat models. Would this fit in that case? I have a stack of cases up to my waist in my music room, so if I could go without getting yet another one, that would be awesome.
It fit into a TKL strat/tele case for me no problem.
Awesome. Thanks for the reply!
I really really love it
They removed the rhythm circuit and placed the vibrato closer to the bridge like a classic player 😢
Awesome!!!
Good now I don't have to duct tape over that useless(for me) circuit 😂
I’m fine with the tremolo being a bit closer to the bridge, but I gotta have that chrome control plate on the upper bout… just doesn’t look right without it.
Surf Rock meets Shipwreck.
I spotted that Thrasher sticker in the background. Do you/did you skate?
I skated in high school but not in a long time.
@@JeremySheppard same here. Once you skate though it’s always a part of you.
Another awesome review man 👍👌 i wonder what the lefty options will be?
Thanks! The fender link in my bio has several lefty options.
@@JeremySheppard sweet!! Thank you Sir!!
Nice guitar. Sounds good!
Would you recommend this guitar for a beginner like me?
These are the best they’ve been. The jaguar is a little complicated for a true beginner, the bridge might make for a guitar that’s often out of tune. This is comfortable, affordable, and easily modified.
people be like: it doesnt habe the stuff we never used, is shxt 😭😭😭
what was the song you played at the 11 minute mark? its killing me because i cant place it
“The mighty rio grande” by This Will Destroy You.
@@JeremySheppard ahh. I didn't know the name, but realized as soon as I looked them up that I remember it from moneyball
This is perfect, I've been building myself up to getting a player jag, but any i tried lacerated my hand on the frets.
Great video!
The selector switch bothers you? Now who’s being a baby.
🤣 😂
Is the scale 24 right? Maybe I missed it, sorry.
24
@@dennishickey7194 ah ok, on more than one site I found 25.5 (Thomann, and Fender site itself)
What amp do you use here?
Fender Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb di out.
So, I'm supposed to charge money when I mow my neighbor's yard? I wish I'd known that earlier.
Stick with me, John. You’ll learn some stuff. 😜
I have learned much from you about guitars, but my church is very much into "love your neighbors and everyone"
its an offset telecaster😂
Basically identical except for the tremolo and
Balancing bridge, non string through body, pickups, 1 met pots, and headstock. 🤪
Someone else who calls it a jaaaaaag
Nice
Shame they got rid of the second circuit and switching options. Looks cool, though.
Not fan of the "simplified" Jaguar.
Aquatone Blue = Aged Daphne.
Ooooo….of course! It’s beautiful!
The tremolo is in the wrong spot… it’s too close to the bridge.
Well it's for increasing the break angle and reduce strings slippage. You can buy a Vintera II if you want vintage accurate specs.
Love pau ferro
3 way selector and no strangle….pass. missing by some seriousness jagness.
I also like how minimalistic Jaguar looks without all metal parts and switches
No I shouldn’t buy one. Why? Because I love Jaguars, and this is an incomplete and dumbed down version that doesn’t live up to the name.
You can definitely spend more and get a tone circuit no one uses. 😂
I still really like this one.
Do not buy; without the proper switches it is not worth it!
No one uses those switches.
a jag without chrome plates and a matching headstock is just an overpriced * idio shortscale Jazzmaster copy
Sounds lifeless, no sparkle whatsoever!
Pau Ferro sucks. Or at least on Fender Fretboards. Dry, scratchy, streaky, and good riddance.
