I bought a Chibson SG for $100 and I absolutely love it. It's not perfect in many ways, but in my country there aren't many options in the SG style. Even for three times the price, which by the way I don't have the financial or moral strength to pay. So I'm just glad I have something like the SG.
I bought a "Gibsun" twin neck s/h in the UK, I knew it wasn't a Gibson but a cheap Chinese knock off but got it as a cheap gimmick to say, "hey, I got a Gibson twin neck, view from a distance." I do own a genuine Gibson btw. The Gibsun logotype is almost like Gibson's but has u instead of o. So you can tell, but it is clearly based on Gibson's. I wasn't expecting much but one of the bolted on neck joints failed though was easily repaired.
Thank you for doing this one. Finally proves the point that I have been talking about for over 15 years with this nonsense. I recently had a video pop up on my feed this week with a guy who bought an illegal Chinese Jackson firebird. This guitar was so bad I couldn't believe it! He paid $200 for it, but it will probably cost 3 times that much to fix and make playable! Why? Just buy a good guitar for that $800 ish that you are in the hole and move on with life. By the way, I'd love to know/see the youtuber who "dragged you through the mud" over this. The comment about being on drugs had me on the floor laughing! :) Thank you again for doing what you do Jake!
TRUTH!! So glad for this video - look, I'm not the morality police, so in the overall scheme, I don't really care. But know this - if you have to inquire as to the legality of purchasing or owning something, if the online seller is constantly changing their name and/or moving around their shop, if you are "relieved" that your purchase made it through customs, if when you get it, your are looking it over meticulously to determine how closely it resembles an authentic, branded product, if you find yourself stumbling around to explain why you have it and what makes it so great "for the money" to someone like me that sees it and knows its fake - what you are doing is skeevy (and likely wrong) no matter how you try to justify it. And I love this one - its always about "the man", "corporate greed", and blah blah blah. This is an effort to push back - yeah, well what I dont understand is, if you hate Gibson so much, why in the world would you ever own anything with the Gibson brand on it, real or fake. Why would you advocate in any way that you are a fan of a Gibson product. If I know you and you have a fake guitar and you try to pass it off as real (as so many people that I know have tried to do) or try to justify owning a fake, I will make it a point to inconspicuously embarrass you over it in a group setting. I can ask dumb questions to root out the truth as well as anyone that can provide dumb answers to try to avoid it. I have said this over and over in these posts - I am not opposed to Made in China guitars, I have several. I am also not opposed to off-branded Made in China guitars, I have several - but I will not buy or accept as right that a coward manufacturer in China is stealing another guitar company's brand to sell their guitars. If they are made so good - as the fake guitar buyers proclaim - then they should put their own name on the headstock (you know good and well why they wont). Good cheap guitars sell, right? right? Harley Benton does it, Firefly does it, and the list goes on. I am in total agreement with this video - stop buying these. If you think about it, the buyer is the weak lamb in this situation - not the lion.
theres not even a reason to buy counterfeits these days if you want a decent cheap "gibson style" guitar they exist and are common nowadays, you dont have to buy a chibson in order to get that
I do not like Gibson but their guitars should not be copied and sold as fake Gibsons. A copy or representative guitar of a Gibson design is ok in spite of the occasional lawsuits filed by elitist Gibson. A fake is a fake and should be treated as utter rubbish by any aspiring musician or guitarist. Gibson have a fine historic legacy to be respected and it should not be sullied by fake crap from China!
Chibson goons, if you have to twist laws to justify your crap guitar, you already know what you’re doing is wrong. Thanks, Jake, for keeping this topic alive and exposing the truths that cheap ass people don’t like to hear. 🤘🏻
I don't understand the cope. I've got Gibsons, Epiphones, and even a firefly. There's too many decent guitars out there to waste time on counterfeit crap.
Who wants to play a fake anyway? If you're a great player, no one will care what it says on your headstock. If your playing sucks, no one will care what it says on the headstock. Gibson and Fender make fakes too. They're called relics.
lol @ thumbnail. In Canada, it's not illegal to possess counterfeit goods for personal use. However, some countries do consider it illegal, and people have been fined or even missed their flights for buying counterfeit goods while traveling. another issue is that China doesn't care. There are so many better guitars than Chibsons, Chenders or Chickenbackers coming out of China with the stainless steel ball end frets from a reputable and legal factory (EART, Firefly, etc.) that I don't understand why people continue to purchase Chibsons. there can't be much money in reviewing them? Sweetwater is not going to sponsor a channel that reviews counterfeit goods
Yes, I'm on Facebook Groups and Reddit daily. counterfeit guitars are acquired, obtained or even discovered through other means. i'm sure there are markets out there with counterfeit guitars for the tourist trade. The last video Jake made on Chibsons I left a comment about a guitar player that passed away and his widow asked me to take a look at his collection and I discovered other than a Korean made Squier everything this player owned was Fake. I watched a clip of Pawn Stars recently that had a Gibson Mandolin that turned out to be Fake too
Chibsons are Chinese knock off Gibsons. They look real to the untrained eye because of the Gibson logo but truthfully they're far from what a Gibson looks like. There are many signs there. Headstock is never correct, tuners are usually a bit lower and the base as well as the top of headstock are elongated. In some cases this doesn't apply but then the headstock is usually too wide on the bottom. The horn on a Les Paul for example is usually too rounded or too pointy. Knob and bridge placement is almost always off (either higher or lower than where it should be). If you open the cavity, you'll see almost always small 500k pots or standard size cheapo pots and the wiring is all color coded which doesn't translate to Gibsons. Many things are wrong and off with Chibsons but I get what he's saying. The truth is that this would never go to court if they were trying to make an example and if for some magical reason it would, the one suing would lose because details matter. The only base they would have is the Gibson logo, otherwise it's a completely different guitar.
Well Customs has never seized Chibsons Guitars coming to Canada, so they are not considered counterfeit here. Just move to Canada and cleanse your soul.
i bought a Chibson Greeny and honestly the build quality is as good as my real Les Pauls……the electronics are not as good but the rest of the guitar is on par for a literal fraction of the cost

Right on Jake!

Jake should run for office, with a platform that consists solely of ridding the USA of Chibsons.

Epiphones are awsome for the cash.

Can you explain what you mean by chibson? Fake gibsons or Replicas of a gibson made by other brands?

Your comment did not age well, @joemonella

Cope
Still counterfeit, slave labor produced, intellectual property stealing, bs.
When corporations screw us and gouge us i don't give a shit about your patent and copyrights
Leave the groups stop doing videos on them. It's that easy, but you won't because you get most of your views from talking about them.
False, none of my Chibson videos are in my top 10 most viewed in the last 28 days.
lol laws
