Agree with the Floyd, maybe an FRX would be doable on these without too much extra routing, Pickups seem to be nice as is, hot but not overly hot and also clear, perfect for pretty much all kinds of lead playing.
Victory basses have been a thing for ages, nobody knows about them but they're literally the best bass that Gibson have ever made. They're the only Gibson basses that are full scale, hang properly, and don't have godawful neck dive.
Not sure why people are hating on the Victory. I played one at my local mom & pop shop. Incredible guitar. Not sure the pups and don't care. It sounded sensational through a Dr.Z Carmen Ghia. It's a super strat killer imo.
The only player I know of who uses/used a Gibson Victory was Danny Coralles who plays in the old school death metal band Autopsy and was also the guitarist for Abscess. He uses a blue Gibson Victory with a Kahler trem system. I think these are great but I can't help but the lack of trem system puts me right off. I suppose you could install one but I think these would be more appealing if they had one installed already.
Toy Orbison had a black one. I own the original. Got it in 82.. A Super Strat with Custom Tim Shaw triple humbuckers, with a coil tap and 5 position selector. Hard rock maple body. Very heavy. Ebony fingerboard..... Original has a Firebird headstock, which i like better than the new Explorer style. Every recording studio has the 6 string and bass in their vault. They are a workhorse. I like the guitar but it should have come with a Floyd. Right now a modern floating tremolo is only available from Epiphon or Gibson Custom Shop (Axcess). Gibson USA needs to offer one as well, and this would have been the perfect guitar to do it.

Looks like I'm in the minority by browsing the comments but I love these! For me too I love coil=split options. It's such an inexpensive thing to include and it makes a guitar much more versatile. I always feel that if the pickup in a guitar has wiring to allow splitting, just include that option standard. If people hate it they never have to use it, but at least some of us like it. Truthfully for me it's almost always a deal-breaker these days if coil-splitting isn't included. Or it at least knocks a guitar down my list if the option isn't included.
I quite like it. Something different after all this time of endless Les Pauls, SGs, and Explorers (and Vs, sure). But I wish that they had made the headstock a little straighter. Not straight, but a little less droopy and perhaps let the strings run straight to the posts, only that much straighter. - And the pickguards don't help the look. I think either a better shaped pickguard, as well as a nicer color than just plain black with a white edge, or just no pickguard at all, would make them look a LOT better. - It's all in the details that makes the whole. - But other than those few things, really nice.
Lots of tone options. It’s light. It’s a blast to play. A bit pricey though. If I had a Gibson/Messa support deal I would use this just for fun. Buy one though? Na, PRS or Jackson, less than 1/2 the cost. Will stick with my Less Paul’s. 🥂🎸🎶
Jimmy Page on the Outrider tour had a Gibson ‘Strat’ style guitar when I went to him live. Think it was the US 1. They did a bunch of super strats with Floyds etc from the mid 80s until Nirvana blasted the shredder out of the water . They got Wayne Charvel to help with them.
I kind of like them, but I don't think are going to sell well. My guess is if I wait a year, I can get one on clearance or a used one for about half price.
This looks pretty sick. Ive been eyeing a 80s model Victory for a minute then they drop these and with with 24 frets! I would throw in some burstbuckers (ik its not everyones favorite but i like the touch response and clarity from my 61 Reissue.) And not have the coil splitting option. I actually played one and thought it was cool. It's not a PRS, it more like a Schecter Avenger and a Les Paul had a kid together. PUs are hotter than your standard PAF but it retains a distinctive tone. The neck is comfy and thin, but not Ibanez thin.
Most ALL split humbuckers sound that way. Saying they sound like your regular standard single coils, in most cases, was never really right. BUT, they have their usefulness. When you wanna sound a bit "acoustic-ish" they can have a pretty sound if you have an amp or pedal setting that will enhance that tone, often specially on the mid position... think like the Hotone Omni AC for instance ... and you don't need 2 guitars for a live gig. It's just "different", just think of it this way, definitely jangly.
I find that split humbuckers vary in quality considerably. I find the high output humbuckers tend to not split as well but there are notable exceptions. Funny enough, one of the best splitting humbuckers I've ever tried was one that by default, cannot be split without modification. But the Slash Duncan's sound fantastic if you're brave enough to give em the 4 conductor wiring needed

I think they are doing their best to get enthusiastic about these guitars. I ran out of match sticks to hold my eyes open so never saw the end of the video.😆
ive had my iguana burst for a few weeks. It's now done a few gigs with me. the only downside its hard to use the push pull on the pots as they are hard to grab in full action. Gibson would have been better to put a button sprung pot to make mid song changes possible
The tune o matic has tons of sustain and resonance. Also with a trem syatem especially a Floyd you can't put the bridge pickup that close to the saddles where you have the most harmonic richness
Well that's kind of the thing - every guitar company on the planet makes a superstrat with a floyd or a tremolo. Gibson has no chance in that market at all. This thing however is a bit unique. You don't really have a lot of fixed bridge superstrats (that aren't one piece hipshot bridges) on the market. And Gibson fans don't really care for tremolo bridges anyway. I see it more as a stab at PRS McCarty that proved to be a really popular design in the last few years - a more ergonomic guitar that still offers the sonic ballpark of a LP.
The problem for many people with this guitar’s design is not that it is different, it’s that people it is ugly. There is just no consistency in the proportions, which for most Gibson players and fans is important. For some reason Gibson‘s aesthetic design execution is just a little off compared to Fender. When Fender does a new shape it still bears a family resemblance and has relatively graceful lines, like the Meteora, the Lead, or the Toronado. But for some reason when Gibson does this, they get the Theodore, the Moderne, or this thing. Still, I applaud them for trying and it sounds killer. But got to work on having better flowing lines and leave this stuff to Kramer line Fender does with Jackson.
"New from Gibson! This isn't your dad's Gibson!" "It literally is, he had one as a kid in the 80s" "...okay, but it's not your grandfather's Gibson... maybe" Nothing says new and fresh like relaunching the guitar you launched in the 80s to seem new and fresh
I quite like the look but dunnk about that Headstock, my fav pointy headstock is a reverse ibanez. Wish they had cooler inlays specially for the price Man peeps are quick to hate on stuff lmao
6:03 - They should've gone with a Wilkinson or something that is NOT annoying to deal with then. You know, with saddles that can be adjusted on the fly, because Floyd Rose doesn't believe in such black magic.
I've owned 4-5 of these guitars and basses from the 80's. They weren't great then and I can't imagine these are better. There is a reason it was short lived then. I hope they weigh a little less than the 80's models did...boat anchors.
Is it an explorer , is it a Prs vela or is it a child of the both of them . The top horn looks slightly too big imho? Good to see something different from Gibson though ?
I have an original 80's MVII and gotta say it looks much better. The headstock is better than the Explorer style and the larger pickguard looks a lot better. Thanks to Gibson for increasing the value of mine tho! 😄
Gibson could have an introductory promotion - the choice of a leather vest or leather pants that lace up on the sides of the legs. They should leave these to Kramer or Jackson!
I've no idea who the target group is, but I'm sure they've got a mullet 😂
Can confirm, have mullet and went "ooooh" at seeing this

I think they are doing their best to get enthusiastic about these guitars. I ran out of match sticks to hold my eyes open so never saw the end of the video.😆
ive had my iguana burst for a few weeks. It's now done a few gigs with me. the only downside its hard to use the push pull on the pots as they are hard to grab in full action. Gibson would have been better to put a button sprung pot to make mid song changes possible
I guess a tele is closer to a Les Paul than an sg is to a strat so they wanted to make one even more like a strat I guess
I love Gibson stuff but woudn't it have more sense with a floyd or at least a tremolo bar?
They are in desperate need of a PRS-style trem system (at least as an optional model).

NICE
I think they are cool!
And I don’t have a mullet.
Good looking and sounding guitars, not the green one though.
remove the pickguard, change the headstock for the inverted firebird, put a floyd rose, it's done
Knew within 2 seconds the guitars weren’t my thing, but just stayed for the bants
Love the figured one and what a great sound. Wish it was usual Gibson scale though. :/
So a PRS Vela?
With an ugly headstock
Did the vela come out in the 80s??
Except it predates PRS existing as a company and is almost certainly the inspiration for the Vela.
Yea would’ve liked to see a tremolo on these but I sill dig ‘em
The green color is so dinosaurs
Yes, It looks like a cheap plastic toy.
When ‘new’ is something 40 years old!
Wow. Just wow! Gibson? Y'all okay over there?
Just a little too much melatonin at night.
If that upper horn wasn't sooo big it would be a nice guitar.
That long horn is a handle that you use when it’s ready to be placed in the fireplace 😂
This isn't your dad's Gibson!"
"It literally is, he had one as a kid in the 80s"
"...okay, but it's not your grandfather's Gibson... maybe"
Nothing says new and fresh like relaunching the guitar you launched in the 80s to seem new and fresh
I quite like the look but dunnk about that Headstock, my fav pointy headstock is a reverse ibanez. Wish they had cooler inlays specially for the price
Man peeps are quick to hate on stuff lmao
6:03 - They should've gone with a Wilkinson or something that is NOT annoying to deal with then. You know, with saddles that can be adjusted on the fly, because Floyd Rose doesn't believe in such black magic.
Not gonna lie… I like that iguana green. The horns are a bit goofy for me though.
My first electric was an Aria Cat - it looked a bit like this too
@jesshumphries3745 that was my first guitar also (single pickup, still have it) and I was thinking the same thing
I've owned 4-5 of these guitars and basses from the 80's. They weren't great then and I can't imagine these are better. There is a reason it was short lived then. I hope they weigh a little less than the 80's models did...boat anchors.
They have a great tone. The headstock is a deal breaker for me though. Maybe it will grow on me.
Pete's 'Get Off' reference. He does love a bit o Prince.
Add a trem, frx for example and let's go !
Surprised we got this before we got an RD reissue
I think Rudy played one of those on the Fat Albert show.
A firebird headstock and a floyd rose setup would be so much nicer.
The Gibson Vince Noir.
