We watched this as a family for the first time last night. My 5 year old bawled her eyes out and then had me going. It was such a beautiful movie we were all very affected. Later she asked if we could listen to this song at bedtime. I often sing to her at bedtim so I’m here trying to learn it. Xxx love this song and movie.

And to think that I came up with a novel concept that originally stemmed from me getting inspired by this song. This is gonna be a lot so buckle up. Tales From Deranshire and the Fae (summary) (sort of) This is a novel concept that I came up with. It is written in the style of a 19th century novel, and incorporates actual Irish music into the story in the form of musical numbers. The story is set in some currently-vague-to-me time period in Ireland, in the fictional town of Deranshire. On one side, it is right next to Galway, on the parallel side, there is a large forest that is actually enchanted, but humans can’t see the enchanted part of it. The book mainly focuses on the adventures of a teenage girl named Mhéirí O’Connell and her various relationships with various people in her life, and her discovering the enchanted forest and befriending a faerie named Naimh. I don’t like how several of these songs I’m using in the book end up giving Mhéirí SERIOUS commitment issues. Like, she met these two guys at a ceili one night: Ronan, a rich man, and Brendan, a farmer guy. She has a conundrum, ends up choosing Brendan. She tells her dad, Sean, about him the next day, and he sets them up for a romantic relationship, only for Mhéirí to fall in love with a sailor named Liam. An affair starts up, and as Mhéirí is heading to Galway to see Liam one night, Brendan, her father, and her two sisters (Fiona and Kelly), are chasing her down, and Mhéirí’s gonna be in TROU-BLEEEEE! So yeah. Also, I’ve come up with a whole script and choreo for this song, but I don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to choreography.

How can a song in a language I don't even understand cut me to the bone like this? I have no real, personal knowledge of my Scots-Irish ancestors to speak of, other than a few names in an old book, but there's unmistakable heartache and longing to this song, and I feel it down in my soul.

I heard an Irish song when I was in Goodwill. I wish I would have used Google to find out the song, but I guess I didn't want to know at the time. I liked it tho. Made me want to dance. It was similar to this only I think it said something about women wanting men, I don't know.

to be fair, all the Irish lords were either foreigners or even transplanted English who had taken on Irish culture. they were always at war raiding each other. England was at times harsh but that was the only way anyone especially poor people including farmers were ever going to live at peace and not have their crops and cattle stolen
