  • Dónal agus Mórag is a pretty famous wedding song and there are many different versions in both Irish and Scottish Gaelic.
This version by Altan is from Rathlin Island (off the coast of Co. Antrim) the first two verses of which survived the death of the dialect on the Island to be published in Mary Campbell's "Rathlin Stories" (1936). Proinsias Ó Maonaigh, the father of Altan's Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, composed the last two verses.
The Irish spoken is a combination of Ulster Irish and Scottish Gaelic.
    Performed by Altan
    Album: Harvest Storm (1992)

My sister’s wedding was legendary. She married a fiddler. I think every Irish musician in Michigan was there. After the venue kicked us out, most of us went down to the Gaelic League and danced the rest of the night away

Mate, I've been obsessing over your channel for the past 90 minutes. You are truly a blessing sent from the divines to bring joy and life into our otherwise bleak and boring days. Bless you.

I heard this song 15 years ago i knew the title but i didnt know how to spell it.
I burned though many iterations of the title
I lucked out 3 minutes ago.
      My reward?
This exceeds the beauty of the memory that ive kept in my heart of this haunting and panoramic song.

Finding your channel has been the highlight of isolation. I want to learn all the Gaelic languages and all these gorgeous songs ASAP! A dear friend of mine has played the Celtic harp for decades and one day I hope to sing in Gaelic with her instead of just translations, or English folk. The languages are as gorgeous as the music.

And sea birds by the dozen
Of all of it, the favorite feast
It was the chickens they preferred
    Salmon, trout, from the Erne,
    Abundancy of game and birds.
    Beef and veal the tastiest
    Roasted lamb and venison
The drinks were full and generous
    With wine and Spanish brandy
    Still potcheen and honey mead
From Ireland there was ale and beer
