Amusing to see the debug card in the MMU... I wanted for my setup, so.. I looked at the picture in EDIs limited literature and designed one.. basically looks exactly like that one .. Go figure.
Can you make videos on how transit signal priority works
I went to a two year electrical program and graduated. I got hired by the city is a maintenance repair on traffic lights. 🚦 In this position, I honestly didn’t need to have gone to electrical school. All day long I changed out LEDs, replace damage parts like visors and build traffic heads. Sometimes I will build 25 heads in a day just depends. They trained me to get my class A-CDL. There was a lab where the electrical techs slept. lmao At least that’s what it always looked like they were doing. I wasn’t considered an electrical tech, I was just maintenance even though I was a full blown electrician outside of my job. But inside the lab was a lot of electronics. I would go in there just to tinker around and learn about things and some of the senior text would explain things to me. I left the job because the money was not that great. I appreciate the free CDL training that I received. But I was trying to move up in position to be an electrical tech and the managers wanted to keep me in the maintenance position because there wasn’t enough maintenance. They also didn’t like me hanging out in the lab. They wanted me doing maintenance stuff, even though all of the maintenance stuff was done. I saw that I was working around a bunch of grandfathered in men who didn’t see my potential and were holding me back from learning and growing. To sum it all up I think that you can get in the Traffic Signal field of work without going to any school. The city has their own traffic light ordinance division that you can apply to well also the State. The department of transportation is a separate government division someone can apply and you will make more money than city division. Since I left the city employees have received a $7 an hour salary increase. I think the starting position now is around $20-$22 maybe. Also where I live the IBEW lineman union works on traffic lights and they send their guys to their own school and training. Of course they are one of the biggest contractors for the city and state. I learned a lot about the union because they came to our shop to pick up materials quit often to perform city contracts. The guys in the union back in in 2018 started out at $27 an hour no experience. It’s probably 30+ by now just to start. You have options to be a lineman, a streetlight, technician, or traffic light technician or work at substations. The union is more intense and strict about qualifications. in order to get into the union, you must possess basic algebra skills, and passion examination. Unless you know someone it’s extremely hard to get in without already having a class a CDL with a manual endorsement even though all of their trucks are automatic. The union guys make the biggest money though. Years in the game and those guys make six figures, but they do work some serious hours. It only takes four weeks to get your CDL. Take an eight week algebra class at a college likely $500 to attend. Then take the algebra examine and score high. I was told that if you score well on the algebra and aptitude test it will determine whether or not you start off at base pay or not. From my understanding and I’ve seen this universally you can test up in classes in the Unions and pay scale, just based off what you score. You can make more and be put into a higher position sooner.
I may have missed it. I didn't hear you mention phases in the same ring cannot run together. Only heard the part about the barrier. Also phases are 1 thru 8, overlaps are not phases, they are overlaps A, B,C, And D that can be assigned to run with any phase as there is no conflict, for additional movement, such as right turns arrows or to clear intersections.
Back in the early 90's I worked with the majority of those controllers and monitors you are displaying. I hated the mechanical cams or F-Trays.
It's actually an orange hand. Ha ha ha.
How are center-running street-level rail intersections connected when set up for pre-emption ? Does it come in the same way as Opticom via the Approach Interlocking from the nearest ACWD for the railroad, or are induction loops/detector signals used under the rail gauge at the traffic signal intersection ? I imagine the latter due to the 'isolated system' theoru, but I also know a lot of accidents where Grade Crossings are run perpendicular in too close proximity to a Traffic Signal intersection without being interlocked, resulting in confusion where car has Green Traffic Signal but ACWDs/Gates come down & the car stops on the track, or similar with Red Traffic Signal indications.
I.B.E.W. will teach you. I've done traffic signals to Industrial to commercial. Just got to want it please choose I.B.E.W.
🤔 I understand you can't please everyone, but this video was a waste of time and effort as it was just a quick view of this box, that box, oh and the box over here. It would have been better to view less, and to explain what each box did, or what era it was from, maybe next time.
Do you have more information on that solid state Mercury relay replacement?
I am the traffic signals crew leader in Syracuse NY where Crouse Hindes is located. We still have a couple PCE'S in operation

You could always increase the video speed.
@trafficsignalstraining7673 I like your response 😂😂😊
I just passed my test 4a Signal Maintainer. Now just waiting on emails
Can you show you how to control a traffic light in my garage? I want the light to turn on -green when the car is entering the garage, turn yellow when the car reaches a prescribed distance that is close to the end, and then turn red when it reaches the end where it needs to be parked.
6:33 Those D8 controllers weighed a ton! Did you ever use the Crouse-Hines SP40 pretimed controllers? We were phasing them out when I started in the mid 1980s in Phoenix. I'd like to get my hands on a Winko-matic TC75 time base coordination. It would make a good time based relay contrtoller for lights and other stuff.

Maybe you could answer why can’t lights resume automatic operation after a power failure rather than flash red for hours?
They can, but it could be that it wasn’t configured correctly.
This is a great video, and I am your fans. Just a minor oral typo: "MMU" = "Malfunction Monitoring Unit", not "Multifunction".
When looking at the MMU/CMU conflict card, those 1-5, 2-5 soldiered jumper lines are literally not for "phases", but for "channels". Channel 1 not necessarily driven by Phase 1.
Great work! Need more videos like this! Highly recommend creating more content like this go in great detail.
Is it possible if you can make a video explaining all the details and elavations with the traffic lights 🚦. I’ve all kind of inspection before but never that and I was asked in a interview to find this stuff and had no idea where it was 🤦🏾♂️
Been having problems with a 332 cabinet. I only get 18.74 volts to the DC isolators
Have you tried changing out the DC power supply? 206
How many turns out of approximately 30’
Dude you're awesome! You should make some more videos. I have electrical background and just from three of your videos I am able to grasp more of the ts 1 and twos thank you!
The info you gave could have been condensed into a green light short but noooo you had to be the red light
Very nice setup. I've got a bunch of Opticoms in my collection. The last one I'm looking for is the first generation oil filled, otherwise I've got them all.
Traffic signal Sequnces Different types of Overlaps Controller logic processors
I am about to start as a beginner and I just so happened to stumble upon a job opening as a traffic signal installer with a company and I am nervous, curious and excited.
That's exciting! It's tough when you are new but it'll come together
How many types of cabinets are there? 2 or more?
Let me Know if your selling another kit 🫡
I will say they made this set up a lot easier with newer TS2 and ATC signal controllers. In my case trying to make the logical "ped clearance" (in conjunction with an overlap) function to work in my older TS1 field terminations load panel has been a bear and one I have never solved (it's not even an option in my Econolite ASC 2100S controller). Not one video out there demonstrates how that is done. After all FYA is supposed to be backward compatible LOL. Hope all has been well for you!
Will a new cabinet go into flash without MMU and controller in place as long as it has power?
It's incapable of cycling it will only go into flash without an MMU or controller.
Is there a set of contacts in the TS2-1 that changes state when its in fault flash? I want to add it as an alarm input in my network switch. Please help
Thx so much for your information 😊
Very cool thanks for sharing 👍
Dude you are a huge help
Thank you 😊
I have a tech question... I have an old test board that runs on 120 volt S6 candelabra-base incandescent light bulbs. Those old light bulbs are getting harder to find especially here in California where they are phasing them out. When I tried to replace the incandescent bulbs with LED lamps, the LED's stay on constantly, in a dimly lit state.. They work just fine and go to full brightness when they receive an input from the controller, but instead of turning off, they go back to that dim, constant ON state. My understanding is that in a TRIAC, there is a slight voltage leak that incandescent bulbs don't care about, but LED's apparently do. I tried wiring in load resistors which didn't help. Would you happen to know a work-around for this?
Have you tried moving to a different field terminal? How did you wire in the load resistors? You should have taken one leg of the resistor to the output of the field terminal and the other leg to the AC-. Double check your AC- bars and make sure they're all connected. One last thing.. If you pull the load switch out, does it stay dim?
@@streetsmartstraffic I'll give it a try. Thank you!
You’re welcome
Sir i am a trafic signal techinician . working in pakistan trafic signal installation repair wiring dp installation allover working related trafic signal please guid me how i can get traffic signal complainer or techinician job any out of country ....
What is pay like? Is there alot of OT. I have an interview and really looking forward to it.
Depends alot on the amount of signals that the organization maintains. A small municipality may have only 10 signals they maintain vs. a larger city may have 1000. (More likelyhood that a signal may malfuction)
Why are the jumpers on the card so long? We just take a small piece of bare wire and use that as a jumper. I'd think this could end up causing an issue down the line with all of those wires crossing like that. Good luck though.
What a great video I haven’t worked on traffic signals in over 25 years great refresher
Love seeing a WA State project. I work for City of Federal Way Public Works-Traffic
