Hello again, we work with just about every brand of traffic controllers and many agencies specificy the brand of controllers which we are to install, however my personal preference is the Econolite Colbalt. The QC is usually done by the supplier of the controller.

The supplier may send a cabinet that is supposedly QC'd but on multiple occasions and we will run into an issue or two that needs to be rectified before the signal cabinet is installed in the field. When it comes to controllers we trust that they are good out of the box until we run into any sort of issues. it's typical that we will set up an intersection and let it burn in the cabinet for about two weeks before installing it in the field.

As I mentioned in a previous post, if a new signal is to replace an existing one, we install all components and connect our "simulator" for 5 or 6 days prior to wrecking out the old signal. If the signal is a brand new first time signal, we are required to leave it on flash for 7 to 10 calender days prior to activating to colors and during this time, we do several test runs.

I am assuming you mean cabinet testing? We typically do cabinet testing utilizing the plans and specs for the intersection where it is going to be installed. If we find any issues, the manufacturer sends their lab tech to repair the issue. We either do cabinet testing for the Manufacturer (McCain), a subcontractor, or before we install the cabinet for a job.

yeah, QC or "quality control" is the same thing different name. I think our cabinet vendor is pretty good but there's a lot of terminals that all it takes is for one to be landed in the wrong place. There's one cabinet in the field here that obviously vetted before it had been installed, one of the preemption inputs was bad at the test switch which required a field repair. It's not often we find something wrong, but it's always best to find it before it's in the field!

Not sure if you answer comments quickly or not since you publish content infrequently, but I’m dealing with a situation regarding a traffic box like this one and need a few questions answered asap.
I’m wondering how the TEMPERATURE situation works with all the equipment inside a box like this and all my questions are relative to this.
    1. What is the IDEAL operating temp?
    2. Is there a temperature “breaking point” on the high or low end of the spectrum?
    3. Do all boxes have internal temp control and/or temp monitoring systems that alert you to potentially damaging temps?
    4. What role does the box ventilation play in this and is there any ventilation on these boxes aside from the slots in the small overhang above the door?
    5. MOST IMPORTANT - can materials placed against the back of a traffic box like this create an “overheating” situation OR ANY OTHER damaging condition? More specifically, if a homeless person stacked up some pillows or a blanket against the box and then a shelter against the pillows consisting or a tarp and some makeshift framing, CAN HE CAUSE THE TRAFFIC SYSTEM WITHIN TO OVERHEAT OR MALFUNCTION IN ANY WAY AT ALL?
I am in the process of DEFENDING a homeless man who has created a condition like the one described herein. Police have threatened him numerous times with criminal mischief if he fails to maintain an “airflow” gap between the box rear and his belongings. One cop told him 2” is fine, then other cops come by and demand 6-9”.
Of course I understand the climate can matter, but in this case, the outdoor temp was in the 60’s when the man began this routine, and when he was threatened it was December and the temp was much much lower. Despite this, police claimed the traffic box was giving a reading of 90 DEGREES due to his actions and that this was hazardous to the traffic box components potentially causing the intersection to black out and motorists crashing and dying. I’m a former cop and this is called COPSPLAINING. No matter what sense it makes, as long as it makes them feel better about them violating someone’s rights or dishonoring their oath, it’s just fine by them! In almost every argument, I can call their bullshit because I know enough to disprove their claims or I can look it up. In this case, I cannot.
Please try to answer back ASAP. Thanks

      Hey there,
From the age of 14-20 years old I was homeless myself and did spend some time on the streets so your question hits close to home.
These traffic signal cabinets are designed to operate in extreme +/- temperatures. Someone sleeping against the box wouldn't cause a temperature increase anywhere near enough to cause damage to the equipment. I've seen these signal cabinets running with an external temp in excess of 110°f. In the top of the cabinet there is a fan that is controlled by a thermostat. On the door there is a vent where fresh air is exchanged to keep the cabinet cool.
Now, there are some things to consider about choosing a signal cabinet for a camping location.
1.It's maintenance requires free access to the inside of the signal cabinet by technicians.
      2. They are struck by vehicles often and are a dangerous location to be for extended periods of time.
      3. They are full of live voltage, and are well grounded and all of the signal poles and boxes are bonded to the ground array. This is mainly to protect the electrical components in the event of a surge or direct lightning strike, which also happens quite frequently.
Cops are typically not helpful to the homeless (from my experience) but I'd say it's more likely that it's more of a liability for someone to be against that equipment for the municipality. Cops will often "copsplain" stuff when they don't want to elaborate. Typically their job is not about public safety, but rather municipal liability.
I hope this helps. I'd recommend you reach out to a signal cabinet manufacturer like Econolite, McCain, Naztec etc and get some blueprints/specs.

Traffic Signals Training - something told me I’d hear back from you, and that same something told me that my intuition as to your humanity was spot on as well.
This account I’m speaking from is merely a “shell” account of sorts. I cannot openly admit my true identity when commenting in this manner for several reasons. Two of which are: I’m a former police officer turned civil rights, and I have another channel with thousands of followers, but am known in the activism community by the tens of thousands. All of which is anonymous.
I’m known as an extremely thorough person that does a vast amount of research before speaking on the simplest of topics. This is why I’ve virtually abandoned my channel and the movement I was establishing. The amount of facts involved in what I’m fighting for are so overwhelming that no video I produce ever seems to satisfy my standards.
However, the video I watched about this homeless man sparked revival in me and I felt I needed to come out of hiding and attack the police department that has harassed the homeless man I mentioned with a video that includes the FACTS about these boxes and their temperature limitations and how the officers will use any angle they can to impose their will even when they have zero clue as to what they’re talking about. As you called it, this is 100% cop-splaining, and I think the fact that you used this phrase means that you most likely are a silent fan of the work me and my colleagues do on this platform.
Everyone’s got a story and man was created to be no better than the next man. You didn’t have to share the intimate details of your past the way you did, but I do greatly appreciate the fact that you did. This is why although I hate the internet for many reasons, I can’t help but love it for reasons like this. It brings the most unsuspecting people together in ways that would not ever be possible without it existing.
I’m obviously a writer and a man of many words, but believe it or not I’m at a bit of a loss as to whether or not this was some sort of cosmic sign that we should speak further.
Because of my obsession with facts and wanting to encourage everyone to operate strictly on facts when forming their opinions, I did a heavy amount of research into the question I posted to you just in case you didn’t see it. I believe I narrowed down the manufacturer of the box in question and then located both the painfully detailed legislature from the state in question (regarding this equipment) AND the technicians manual from the manufacturer. After an hour of crunching this miserable information, I learned that these boxes can safely operate from subzero to 175°F temps rendering ANY claims by ANY government officials to the contrary a complete and utter falsehood and abuse of power. Your statement was carefully said for obvious reasons, but I know you agree with me wholeheartedly. Furthermore, as a legal expert, I can tell you that the safety of this man is of no concern to the police until either he requests help or is actually injured. This is based on SCOTUS rulings as well as the law of common sense. Plus, these particular cops never once expressed a concern for this man’s well being. Instead, they treated him like the scum of the earth and showed concern ONLY FOR that goddamn box. They threatened him with arrest many many times and also spoke to him in a way that would have tou chomping at the bit. So, the “what-ifs” you mentioned are out the window and it’s time to bring this to light.
As I type to you, I continue to kick the idea of contacting you around and possibly finding a way to involved you in this forward advance in speaking out. You can obviously remain anonymous, but I think the fact that I could cover the base of ACTUALLY INTERVIEWING a traffic box tech would make this argument as rock solid as it gets. I’m going to encode an email for you to use which is an email I seldom give out or use. If you have any interest, reach out. Just make it sooner than later because I’m going to start production very soon. Talk to Mister sixth Sense at the gee mail dot com for more info! ✌🏻
