This 1974 Dodge D-100 was passed down to my buddy, Daniel. He was really close to his papaw, and now that Daniel has his own son on the way, his desire is even stronger to get this truck going again so he can ride his son around in it too. You know I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to kick off the progress when his wife asked me to haul it home for him to be there on Father’s Day. Tag along as...

Started right up
Didn't 78 have square headlights? Or did they change that in 79?
Great question! This is a “short” of the full length video. I explain that very thing in the full length video. Basically, 78 “custom” trim level trucks had round, 78 ranger XLT packages had square. ALL 79 had square. 👍🏻
Score!
I love driving back roads here in alberta, and seeing all the hot rods just waiting to be born or reborn... ...get 20 mins outside the city and there seems to be at least one or two sweet cars waiting to be restored on at least every second or third farm or acreage... aside from those with no floors left in them from being parked on grass for all those years...
Who's so cheap that they buy a truck with a 6 cylinder motor?
This one has a 318 v8
@@jwmustangman Yeah, I was only seeing the one side. Thanks.
Meanwhile the 2jg, cummins, s58, and 4.9 are laughing
351 junk
Great job! Surprised to see it running like that after 16 years of neglect.
I love your heart for helping friends. 💙
good save. them old bull nose are only gonna be worth more now that dentsides have gone way to high in prices
Yea I think I’m gunna try to keep it in one piece if I can get the paperwork straightened out.
You do great work!
Thanks for your completely unbiased 3rd party compliment! 😁
Sage green interior. Love it. Same as my 81
You’re not saying that Fords need to be hauled more than dodges are you?😂 I’m just kidding!
No, not at all. They are just more worth the effort! 🤪
Good save it looks to good to part out id fix it up . Ive got a 81 an 76 on my channel . Cheers mate🇦🇺
To not like Dodge you sure do mention em a lot in this video!
my kind of 4x4, cant find any in that shape around here for a reasonable price
@@gravedigger8where you from there gravedigger? Round here they’re as common as chicken after church on Sunday!

wth, its got chevy key gaurds on the doors lol
I saw that! Didn’t even want to acknowledge it. 😂
@@jwmustangman lol
Love the gear reduction starter, the sound of restricted exhaust though.
Looks like you finally got a real truck!
Hahah, I made an exception for a worthy cause. It’ll be back to fords on the next one! 😅
does anyone know where i can buy the hardline that goes from the fuel pump to the carb? or can i use braided?
I cover that on the will it run video for this bronco. 1/2” drive ratchet or breaker bar, 3” extension, and a short 1/2” drive 15/16 socket on the vibration dampener bolt will put your ratchet or breaker bar pretty much flush with the crank pulley and hanging down where you can easily turn it. 😊
So now tomorrow when I try to slip that pump back on I need to find the sweet spot on that eccentric by moving the crank shaft but my man Rusty didnt show how he was able to turn the crank in his video.. What Is the best way to use a 1/2" rachet and turn one of the pulleys to turn the crank???? Suggestions please!!!!!! PS I have arthritis.
Awesome! That’s why I decided to do the channel. I am always fooling with this stuff and was hoping by posting some videos it might help others keep their old fords on the road. Thanks for the positive feedback and keep on truckin! 😊
Rusty, thanks. You saved the day. I just removed my fuel pump on my 1980 F250 Super Duty 351 Modified w/power assisted power steering. Differences are with mine is there is a frame cross member right below the fuel pump which means you have to get to the bolt and nut from the front by the radiator hose where there is a 50 degree window to put a closed end on the lower nut. I took the low hanging fruit and took the top bolt off first ... and when I was untightening the nut top of the pump stayed in the same position and started kicking the bottom out (just like in your video)there was pressure on the bottom nut which was making the nut very difficult to get off since in addition the fuel pump slipped further down thus decreasing the distance between the nut and upper body of the pump which made a closed end 1/2" wrench ineffective. So I decided to go back to youtube and search some more and found your video. Thanks again for your time and the tips!!
2 Ford dentsides close to each other is a rare site these days.
at least hes feeding it fuel not just drip it just for it to pop off and in those videos they wonder why it wont run 🙄like 99% of the youtube videos
I would get all of them to run😊😊😊😊. I love these truck's and I kick myself in the ass for getting rid of the one I had 😢😢😢
So far I got everything running right now except for the one I know is locked up.
@@jwmustangman You should get that one running also. I've been wrenching for 22 years and the shit they put out today is made to throw away. Not those girl's they're like a Timex , takes a lick keeps on ticking
love that l6. Also the fact that you disconnected coil for safety was excellent.
Thanks! I ❤ that inline 6 as well. Dad had a bunch of em when I was a kid and I’ve grown to love them; And I have learned the hard way about disconnecting the coil! 😂
This would have been a better video if it was a dodge.
woohoo a stepside, is it for sale
I guess it could be. 👍🏻 lol
Awesomely informative fellow. 👌
Glad you think so! Thanks!
Sounds like you need to replace your PS glow plug too. 😊
8deg thems rookie numbers
Haha, I know I know. Hence my comment of “I know it gets a lot colder other places, but…”
I would have warmed her up first with the oil probably being a little sludgy and thick but yeah glow plugs batteries and oil changes keeps them alive for a long time can’t beat the longevity but hate them when it comes time to fix them but I mean you cant beat a tuned diesel with a sound system no better feeling
About to knock this out in my ‘95. Thanks for taking the time to provide information to others.
No problem! So glad my info is helpful to somebody else keeping these things on the road. Let me know if you run into any issues!
Great video!
Good video. Gary said he remembers when you got the truck.
I think I see Camp Creek Bald in the background!!!!!! Lovin' the content. Keep it up.
Is there a bowl on that carb that you could fill?
Yes there is. I plan to use it next time I start it. I just don’t usually use it on the initial start up.
@@jwmustangman Ok, wasn't sure. I had a 78 Bronco years ago that had the 351 modified, but I think a different Holley carb was put on it. I remember I used to just put a bottle which had like a ketchup squirter on top right into the top of the carb and let it run that way when I was messing with it for some reason or another. I am not claiming to be a carb expert. I definitely wasn't then. But, RUclips has certainly helped me learn more about them since those years ago when I had that Bronco.
Excellent video of your work.
Thank you!
Love the video! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
I found one of those ford Floor mats in a junkyard, bought it for $5 and through it in my dad's 77 freewheeling shortbed.
Thanks for covering up the round headlight
😂 I’m sorry! I saw that too! But it won’t let me move that bubble. You can see it on the drivers side tho…
What you called an extension on the fuel line is a check valve added by ford after manufacturing due to pump check valve failures
Young ppl these days
78s had round and 79s had square if I’m not mistaken. I had a 79
Both 78 and 79 had square headlights unless it was a base model (custom) 78. They had the round lights. Same with the F series trucks.
Yeah, what a great truck. I just wish that Union wouldn't have killed it before, they even finished building it. In typical Union fashion, they said all of that great brand new steel outback, and went on strike. And you can see the effects of it in that rear quarter panel back there. It's called leverage.
Ok, now I know!? I stand corrected. Thank u for correcting me. I've never seen one like that??
And all fullsize broncos had square headlights.
Not true at all. Same applies to broncos and pickups for 78-79. Custom trim 78 had round, all other 78 and all 79 had square. I’ve owned and seen several 78 custom trim broncos with round headlights.
@jwmustangman I could be wrong? But I'm guna respuctfully disagree & believe all full-sized broncos had square head lights until someone can show me just one example of a fullsize bronco that had round headlights. I understand in 78 some of the f series pickups had round headlight depending on trim level. But I have never seen a 78 bronco that had round headlights & am under the belief that from day one of the full-size bronco they assembled them with square headlights.. But again, I could be mistaken?
For @jesseduke694… here is your proof. I owned this 78 custom bronco with round headlights last year
Ask and you shall receive. Lol I just uploaded a short and tagged you. Proof that they do exist. Like I said, I’ve owned and seen several full size 78 broncos with round headlights.
@jwmustangman well I must say, I do stand corrected. My opologize for doubting.
outstanding!
Glad you like it!
Did u end up selling it? I saw it on the forum.
Yes I did. A guy here in east TN bought it a few weeks ago.
