Plz can make tutorial on how to trim pass if I am grading in rec 709 I have to final adjustment in dci p3
Hi, thanks! Moving from Rec.709 to DCI-P3 with a trim pass is an interesting approach, though typically the process goes the other way: colorists often start with a DCI-P3 grade (or another wider color space) and then adapt it to Rec.709. This approach preserves as much color fidelity as possible from the start. If you’re working in Rec.709 and need to make final adjustments in DCI-P3, you can try adding a Color Space Transform (CST) node at the end of your node tree in DaVinci Resolve. From there, make any necessary tweaks to adjust for the DCI-P3 look, keeping in mind that moving from a narrower to a wider color space may limit the color expansion. I appreciate the suggestion and will keep it in mind as I plan future tutorials. Thanks for tuning in, and I hope this helps!

Is there a particular reason behind why you didnt have Kodak film print applied before you began to colorgrade your clip? You started with exposure, contrast, temperature and then later you included dehancer.
There isn’t a particular reason why I didn’t start with the Kodak film print LUT this time. Typically, I do apply it first, as it directly impacts exposure and contrast, setting the foundation for the rest of the grade. However, for this clip, I chose to go with a more linear approach initially to streamline adjustments and avoid toggling back and forth. It’s a great observation, though! Applying the LUT first generally provides a more cohesive base to build on, especially when working with Kodak profiles, as they shape the tonality early in the process.
@@MediabeeColorLab I see, thank you for explaining your thoughts process for this one. Where can I learn more about how different film profiles effect shape of the image? I have Dehancer myself and I want to understand more in detail how they work. I know that Dehancer have alot of useful information on ther blog and website.
@@fjouper You're very welcome! To dive deeper into how different film profiles affect the image's shape and feel, Dehancer’s blog and website are excellent resources, as you mentioned. They offer detailed breakdowns on each film profile, covering how aspects like contrast, grain, and tonality influence the final look. In addition to Dehancer’s resources, I'd recommend experimenting directly within Dehancer by applying various film profiles and comparing the results side by side. This hands-on approach will help you develop a more intuitive understanding of how each profile shapes the image. If you’d like more technical insights, studying film theory and color science can also be incredibly beneficial. Let me know if you have any specific questions as you explore!
I can't find the beds you're using at all, I'm following the tutorial very well but when I get to the beds I'm stuck.
Could you please clarify what you mean by "beds"? Thanks
Bro I love your tutorial , however I having a little issue , when apply davinci film look 2383 d60 , my greens become blue , how can I resolve this , please
Thanks so much for the support! I’m glad you’re enjoying the tutorial. When using the DaVinci Film Look 2383 D60, if the greens are shifting to blue, it’s often because the color space isn’t set up to match the 2383 LUT’s intended workflow. This LUT is designed to work in the Cineon Film Log color space, so before applying it, try using a Color Space Transform (CST) node to convert your footage to Cineon Film Log. This should help retain the correct color balance, including the greens. Give it a try, and let me know how it works out!
Great tutorial explaining bit by bit thank you
Thank you for your comment!

Thank you! Glad to hear that!
And yet again using some paid plugins
Please feel free to check out my other tutorials in my RUclips channel. I have specific ones where I work with Davinci Resolve's built-in tools only.
Hi, and again thank's for this tutorial. I was wondering why you have at output colorspace transform the output of 10000 nits. I work with Raw DNG files from Magic lantern. If I use 10000 nits the picture becomes very lifeless, no contrast, bad color etc. When I set the output to 100 nits its looking much better. In my RAW setting on the color page I use gamma sRGB, and also for the input gamma of the CST I use sRGB. The output of the CST I use Rec 2.4 ofcourse. Is there any reason why you use 10000 nits. Thank's again for this tutorial. I enjoy them a lot. greetings Richard
Thank you for your kind words, Richard! The reason I set the output of the Color Space Transform (CST) to 10,000 nits is to avoid any pre-applied tone curve in the highlights and shadows before I even start grading, giving me more control over the contrast from scratch. However, if you find that setting the output to 100 nits works better for your workflow, especially with sRGB gamma, that makes sense for achieving a more balanced look in SDR. It’s great that you’re adjusting settings to fit your specific needs, especially when working with Magic Lantern RAW files. Each setup can vary, so experimenting like this is the best way to find what works for your footage and display environment.
@ thank’s for reply again. Good to know about these settings. I was always wondering why. Now it is clear to me. So I continue with these settings. That’s the good thing about Davinci, lots of possibilities but that’s also confusing. Thank’s again and keep on going. Cheers Richard

Your videos are very cool. But for some reason no one says that, first of all, this is a cool production work with composition in terms of light, location, etc. Just take it in your room with regular light bulbs, you’ll never make it look so cool.
Thank you so much for the compliment! You’re absolutely right-lighting, composition, and location all play a huge role in achieving the overall look. The color grade brings it all together, but the foundation starts with a well-thought-out setup. Even subtle lighting changes or finding the right setting can make a big difference. Appreciate you noticing that part of the process!

@@MediabeeColorLab Actually my big problem of color grading is what to do. Where and what should I enhance. Is it color, is it mood, or what ever. I look at the picture and I know something is missing but difficult to find out what. So I start playing but next day I think this is robbish. I think this is the main problem of many people what to do. You have any suggestions. Or is it just experience. Thank's again for your tutorials. The colors you create are excellent. Greetings Richard
@@richardrem Hey Richard, I completely understand where you're coming from-that feeling of knowing something's missing but not quite being able to put your finger on it is something every colorist encounters. Honestly, we’ve all been there, and it’s a natural part of the learning curve in color grading. My approach has always been to start with the story or mood that the shot is meant to convey. Is it supposed to feel warm and inviting, or cold and distant? Once you have a sense of the mood, you can start identifying what elements to enhance-maybe it's the shadows for a darker tone, or the highlights to bring in warmth. From there, I usually go for balanced skin tones as a foundation and gradually introduce contrast or color shifts to support the mood. Experience does play a role, but so does trusting your instinct and training your eye to see the subtle changes that impact the mood. And remember, walking away and coming back to your work with fresh eyes can make a huge difference. It’s all part of the process, so don’t be too hard on yourself! Thanks for your kind words!
@@MediabeeColorLab Wow, that’s what I call being interested in somebody’s problem. Great explanation. And what concerns me a very useful information. I will follow your advise. Thats a great idea what mood do I want. Most off the time I do not care if it looks like film. I just want to actieve Nice warm deep colors. Your tutorials did help me a lot.
