I just bought the black hooded for $172 USD on Amazon, sold by Amazon. More than 50% off MRSP.
Does it show you how to get back to starting point, on a hike?
Coffee is a non-negotiable for me, too. I have the AeroPress Go and love it.
I like having a net on my hammock in the winter because it's slightly warmer.
Ha. Dolly Sods killed my Sawyer too. I wonder if yours was the beaver dam area as well. I swore never again and bought the MSR Guardian that will open up all water sources for us from now on.
Awesome content buddy. Why won't the map on my i phone 11 stay open when using.Stays on for 30 seconds then goes to screen saver until i open it again. My progress is being tracked from start to finish but want it on the screen for the ride.Is plugged in and charging while riding. Is it a i phone setting or the app?Stays open when using Google maps till the trip is over why not Alltrails i wonder.
Where did you get that map from? Thanks
It comes with the black forest trail guide book.
This was a very helpful video. My goal is to do some winter backpacking this winter so I’m hoping to use this info to help guide my trip.
Ham-ox? I don't think you scored very high in school. Otherwise, a nice video.
Lol I have acid reflux, it's a digestive problem that a lot of people have and it's hell trying to sleep flat, I need my upper torso elevated so hammocks are truly a God sent for me
Dude I was in don't die mode for the Old Loggers Path. Beautiful trail but kick my butt
My son and I are going there this week.....but i was looking and most posts say it is only 18 miles.
If you start where I did at the end of loyalsock Trail it's the mileage I said in the video. I've tracked it on garmin multiple times. If you start somewhere on the actual loop and do that it will be less. It's a few miles each way on the tail section if you start where I do.
I just did the double loop over the night of July 4, 2024 for my first ever overnight backpack. It was a great hike for a beginner and got me acclimated to carrying a 30 pound backpack for 8 to 10 miles a day. I went counterclockwise on both loops and stayed at the shelter. There were a few places I got off the trail because it is overgrown and blazes can be obscured. It is overall very well blazed. There are places where the blazes are the only way to follow the trail so they are critical. On 95% of the trail, you can see the next blaze from each blaze you pass. Your advice about turning back and finding your way back to the last blaze is critical. Once I did that without wandering aimlessly and not paying attention, I stayed on course.
Thanks for making this, one suggestion if you could overlay distances when you speak that would be great!
i have them all over my 30-acre lot in Sullivan County, NY. More have appeared in my yard this year than at any other point in the 20 years I’ve lived here.
Awesome tutorial! Thank you!
I looked around a lot last night and I woke up to about five giant branches all over my site around my tent but none hit me!
Looks like you made the best of the weather! This is a trip I’m hoping to complete over the summer.
That flat rock is slate, hence the name of the town, Slate Run. BFT was my favorite trail in PA!
Food is out of reach from bears but hammock is not 😬
thank you!
I have and do use the BRS when appropriate. As an engineer, I know that burning 1 gram of butane in air always produces the exact same energy and heat. Efficiency tests are all bs. If you turn up any stove too far you are blowing flame waste fully into space. Some open burners may be less affected by wind. Heat exchanger fins always 30 to 50% more efficient, but have some weight and bulk.
Higher ground dude
Pa is rought this time of year man
What a great campsite!
Great video thanks 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Hi Derek, just wanted to let you know that the link to hammock gear doesnt work. Im in the market for a new under quilt and wanted to support a local youtuber.
Hey dude thanks. I was wondering why it says I got zero clicks 😂😂 I will have to check it out. Side note do you think it hurts someones credibility to have affiliate links like that? I bought all this stuff with my own money and it's the gear I use and recommend. But people still question if you have affiliate links.
Curious how often you see rattlesnakes? Might be a good question for Dan also. I have never ventured west of the state capital, but I am looking to this year as it gets a bit warmer.
Do you know how to delete safety contacts I can't figure it out. I am getting error messages
Praying for the best
Roots, Rocks. And Rattlesnakes… = PA trail miles
So true hahaha
Somebody needs to tell fleccas.
These are so cool.
The witches are back
What do you do with water crossings with the fleece pants? Do they dry out?
I agree! A great feeling! 👍
Dereks appearance has changed a bit.
I’ve had such bad luck Roth trekking poles. But the ones I bought right after that for our Loyalsock Trail are still going strong. No problems after a year. Black Diamond Alpine Cork for the win.
I remember this video! Felt bad for Backpacker Dan! Hahah
Terrible luck haha
The ones from Aldi are great.
The cascade mountain tech ones off Amazon are good also.
I get my sticks off the ground
Resourceful haha
🤣🤣🤣 dang...GPS? Just make sure you bring enough water and stay ON the trail.
Fantastic work my friend 👏👏
Love the videos you make!! On this one do you recall what road you parked off at the kiosk? Very interested to recreate your adventure. Thanks
Sure do. I was on Ridge road, just turn onto Grove hill Rd from route 120 and it will eventually turn into Ridge Rd. The kiosk I parked at I believe was at the beginning of pepper hill trail. If you look at the dcnr map you will see it. It the brooks run division map. www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateForests/FindAForest/Elk/Pages/Maps.aspx Thanks for watching.
You’re the best!! Thanks!!
Ya nice $200 chair
Way overpriced.
I find that difficult not to sweat even if it's cold.
I deal with the same thing. I'll find myself down to a tee shirt in freezing temps lol
Nothing worse than damp or wet clothing.
Absolutely, no fun haha
As a beginner Winter Hiker and future Winter Backpacker, This is GREAT!
Winter hiking can be really fun, but it also presents it's own unique challenges. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I have a video going over my winter gear if your interested im new so ill try to make my videos more focused.
Cool, I'll try to check it out. Thanks!
