MSFS 2024 Locations that Actually Look Amazing!
After many hours of self-torture flying around the current 2024 landscape, I've starting to identify locations for us to explore that really do look incredible ... maybe even better than 2020. For this trip, we're taking the Cowansim 500E up to Mt. Rinjani in Indonesia.

MSFS 2024 Ground Scenery and Landscape Review
Просмотров 8 тыс.4 часа назад
The only thing I was worried about with the 2024 release was what I suspected may be inferior landscape detail vs what we enjoyed in 2020. It appears my concerns were justified ... for now.

We've probably had more requests for this strip of land than any other location since we launched the channel, so I figured we better check it out before we get lost in MSFS 2024. I thought it also seemed like a nice route for the BN2A Trislander by BlackBox Simulations, a VERY cool and quirky plane. I am very happy to see that MSFS2024 has included loads of helipads. BUT, how is it that MSFS2024 renders helicopters as winged planes to other online players. This has to be the biggest immersion killer in both MSFS2020 and 2024.
Ha! I know exactly what you're referring to. I was working on some exercises with one of our members and had to watch his Mooney hovering up and down the whole time.
I’m having the same experience you are. Trim doesn’t work on H125, head tracking is now working. I saw somewhere that they acquired We Love VFR and incorporated it into 2024, so the radio towers should look good. I still have 2020 installed but so far 2024 looks great overall and I love the new trees and textures.
Strangely enough, this photogrammetry looks marginally better than what I'm used to in FS2020. I never thought photogrammetry held up well at any distance closer than a few thousand feet. Is there some kind of trick to fixing up photogrammetry in 2020 that I'm just not aware of?
There are definitely tiers of quality for PG. Some cities look unbelievably good, like San Fran, while others look very bad (many parts of London before the most recent update). What 2024 now has is somewhere in the middle, which is all fine and dandy, but I expected cities to look at least as good as they did in 2020, not worse.
Hype H160 works fine in fs20 in Msfs24 it’s all over the place. Bounces around and when you press certainty buttons the whole sim seems to have a nervous breakdown. Hopefully any issues will be sorted after a couple of weeks/months. The stock 125 is fine.
So your trims worked in the H125? Mine are non-functional.
What happened to all the much improved high res ortho imagery, no sign of it. And MFS2020 was supposed to get updated with that too once 2024 was released, no sign of it, There was supposed to be new photogrammetry and improved photogrammetry cities like Miami etc, no sign of them. Check the trailers of ground scenery against what is offered in 2024, no comparison. Indeed the ground scenery looks worse in 2024 than 2020 in many cases. BTW the autogen buildings are also supposed to be getting makeover according to Jorg since they no longer partner with Blackshark, but I won't hold my breath. If I had believed the hype and bought this I would have requested a refund. Truly hope it can improve a lot with some qick patches because I want to play the flight sim in the trailers.
Yeah, you nalied how I feel about this. Trust and integrity is a really big deal for me. This whole thing feels like an orchestrated attempt to pitch something that never existed. But regardless of how disgusted I am about all that, 2020 is as good as it will ever be at this point, and 2024 is as bad as it will ever be. I've decided to just take my beatings for now and hope the next courtesan won't be so abusive to my sensibilities.
what’s going on with the land textures? they’re so low quality!
What's will all the soft, cartoon like texture and colours to the inside of the cockpit? I've been noticing this, and it's not good.
I noticed that, too. Almost like there is a haze everywhere.
Don’t fly around Dubai. I did my career at a nearby airport and it looks absolutely gash.
This is amazing!!!
Wonderful, you can imagine one day (MSFS 2028?) you could have a channel where people pay to come on these tours. Thanks!
Oh gosh, don't talk about 2028! I'm obviously having a hard enough time coping with what's happened in 2024. But, yeah ... the AI and VR revolution is going to be astounding over the next few years.
Yeah, the cliffs do look amazing, but sometimes it's a bit too much. I flew over my home, there are cliffs and amazing rock spikes in the sim, in real life, it's hills and trees. :)
Great video, Nick. I’m glad you’re going to stay exclusively with 2024 moving forward. I rely on creators like you to show us places we’ve missed. I’m just getting started with 2024. I’m still trying to learn the new keyboard shortcuts 😂. It’ll take me 3 months just to try all the new aircraft. My previous marketplace aircraft loaded in yesterday. Having been through the flight simulators of the last 40 years, the new one always has glitches. I’ve seen it in the business and technology world every time there is an upgrade or when companies move to new platform. It goes with the territory.
This is the first time seeing ur vid. Absolutely love this man. I havnt visited ur channel yet but would love to learn how to fly a helicopter in the sim. Iv tried it and i dont really understand it. But thanks again for the content and cant wait for more like this
What a disapointing load of garbage ! If we wanted to look at Bambi in a wood full of flowers we'd look at the Disney cartoon. This iteration of the 'newest and best' version of what has devolved into a Game seems to be more Cartoon like. The former detailed and high definition graphical elements having most definitely been downgraded. These issues are nothing to do with poor streaming and apart from the obvious disaster of the opening day which is most likely owing to the people at Asobo hurrying to foist an unfinished product on it's loyal customers. One more word,...........REFUND !
Yep, yep, yep ... I hear you and I feel you. All kinds of things built into this that are obviously designed to attract gamers more than simmers, but here's where I'm at on that (and don't really have any other options for places to be). This whole thing will either turn into a stupid safari and photoshoot-centric experience, thus killing simming forever for MSFT in which case someone else will eventually occupy the space. Or, the old guard will be able to continue building on this just like they had to with 2020 and, if everything goes well, in four year's time we'll have something significantly better than where 2020 is now after the same evolutionary period. The sucky part is what happens between now and then.
FACT after dep R19 rwy hdg 3000' to cut the coastline and follow the peninsula to your right, late afternoon. Aka The Cape Town Scenic departure for European airlines.
I'll be sure to try that out, thanks for the tip!
what internet down speed you have? the textures are not that crisp here.
I've got close to a gig on good days. Probably averaging closer to 600-800 mbps.
@@MSFSFlightPlans Ok thx. I have just 80 and upgrading to 400 next week.
I can't say for sure but I'd guess the people who have done reviews mainly fly routes rather than tours like you do, so they fly a lot higher and mostly fly over random natural areas rather than human made stuff.
That's probably right. If all you are accustomed to is the lighting and weather effects, this would definitely be a step up.
Thanks for the flightseeing tour! Enjoyed it. :)
Nice flying! There are some areas that leave your jaw on the floor… The windshield effects are pretty realistic. Can’t say I’ve never taken off with less than stellar visibility due to glare
I wish I could have gotten it to look as bad as it was on my first flight .. it was actually difficult to see out the window.
Definately checking this out tonight. What a find. The rainforest region in west china looks like it could be worth a looksie
That's +2 for the China sites. Can you give me a city in the general vicinity so I know where to look?
Nice chopper flying. The 500 is a handful and you made it smooth.
Ha! Thanks. It took a lot of wrecking and nausea to get there.
Don’t walk into the tail rotor
You see, this is the kind of stuff we can only learn by being able to walk around. It's something I never even would have thought about in 2020. 😇
Not sure but I think there won't be anymore big update-downloads. My guess is that they will just update the local client when necessary, maybe small patches to go along with big updates on the server side... I that makes sense...
Maybe those "Swirls" on the glass from the exterior is a tad on the "much" side, but honestly - i fucking celebrate developers who include glass scratches and imperfections. Nothing is quite as boring as pure, clean glass in a Flight sim that looks as if it's not even there; like the windshield doesnt even exist. DCS nails this. Glass is very, very rarely perfect and pristine; especially in aviation. You will always see imperfections and I think Cowansim did a fantastic job here. They likely based it off an existing bird too - so they just replicated everything, right down to the last scratch.
Oh yeah, I hear you. Crystal clear glass would be tough to find IRL, but man you should've seen how bad it was when the sun was at a lower angle. And it didn't even look lifelike for what it was ... really pixilated and thick, very hard to see through.
Agreed. Plexiglass canopies are atrociously imperfect, even on new aircraft. It's not that big of a deal in real life because when you're looking through the canopy, your eyes are focusing at "infinity" at the ground, the horizon, etc., and you're looking right through the scratches, your brain barely registering them. Unfortunately that doesn't work the same way in a sim where everything is at the same depth of field. I wonder if VR would reduce this effect...?
you wanna go back and fly Liverpool and see how bad it is totally a mess its gonna be years before we it gets to 2024 standards very sad love your videos
I'm sure we're gonna be seeing slow but really good improvements in the next couple of weeks. No rush for me. Great vid👍
Hello my friend I have two questions for you. What package did you get for MSF 2024 and are you able to use your third-party aircraft? For instance the airbus H160 or you able to fly it if you purchased it in 2020 thanks bro
I went with the Premium Deluxe. I haven't started stuffing things back into my community folder yet, so I don't know about my former 3P purchases. As soon as I do, I'll let everyone know.
What a spectacular location! Can definitely vouch for the VR side of things, performance is as smooth as glass on MSFS24 and I've been really enjoying it immensely. Storm, weather and lighting effects are also a huge step up from 20. Have been testing Burning Blue Design airports in and around the UK and unlike before, you can really investigate and take in those locations on foot. Definitely adds an extra layer of exploration. I am hopeful that things will improve in the coming weeks and months!
One of our guys and I were discussing the writing on all the buildings, or the ones that have writing in real life anyway. I've been stunned by how many un-modded buildings have it. For all the new photogrammetry lacks, they got the markings right.
What headset are you using. Vr in the g2 is worse than 2020 by a big margin. 10-15 fps. I'm hitting mid to high 30's in London with low/med setting
Thanks for the views. This location truly looks amazing. We just want the whole world at this level. I would say 2024 has potential but needs lot of time and bug fixes
Should try a flight around south west Tasmania
That's the second time I've heard Taz looks good. One of our members lives out there. I'll fly it tonight. Thanks!
the Sedona cliffs look good, great post
Yes! I saw it. It's now as good as 2020 was with the payware mod. They did have huge patches of flat trees out there and a lot of other places in the US. They managed to clean that stuff up in 2020, so I imagine it's just a matter of time before it's resolved.
Thanks. I guess I'll be sticking with 2020 until MSFS 2028 comes out.
Thanks for the review man. I was really looking forward to it but missed the launch because I was out of town. But now it looks like I didn't miss anything at all. Really disappointing, I was really hoping for a big upgrade here because there sure is a lot of room for that in 2020. This release hardly sounds like even a mild system update to 2020 much less a full independent release.
Welcome back, Captain! I'm flying all the helis around tonight to see how everything feels. Still having a little mapping trouble with some of them, but, well ... they go up and down. Once you get in there, please let me know if you find any spots that look decent enough to post in an inspirational video. I figure there's no turning back at this point, so we might was well make the best of it as they start to wind down 2020. BTW, DO NOT go to Niagara or Victoria Falls. You might just give up on simming entirely, if not life in general.
@@MSFSFlightPlans EEK. That's pretty sad. It's on people like you and me to be "early adopters" for the community but TBH I'm one of those Johnny-come-lately types that wait till the gear is almost obsolete before joining the group. And from what I've seen, there isn't much incentive for me to rethink that philosophy. 😑
Yeah, if you don't have a reason to be flying in 2024 at this point ... I wouldn't. So far, it is just barely functional and the scenery, as you have seen, is abysmal. I don't know what some of these other guys are talking about who are just raving about how amazing everything looks. Maybe they just never looked out the window in 2020. There are a couple of bright spots, however. I've noticed most of the terrain stretching has disappeared and something about the AI has actually made it look like real rocks and cliffs. The default buildings look much better, and the lighting and weather is also an upgrade. Walking around on the ground is fun and novel, but this is a dang flight simulator ... how often are we going to be strolling around on the ground?
@@MSFSFlightPlans You know, it's an interesting point that could be argued. "Realism" CAN be a pain TBH. When Mr D is prepping to leave, I walk around with him and he goes through the whole procedure -- checking oil levels, integrity of the ship, lock wire and coupling paint markers intact, all links tight and functional, etc. In fact I just watched a video today of an R44 trying to take off whose pilot didn't do a walk around -- not only was the helicopter strapped down, he tried to lift it and couldn't so he FORCED it, broke the strap, and crashed. So it's definitely a thing. But the thing is if you're going to put it in the sim as "procedure" then you have to throw some "easter eggs" in there for the player to "catch" and correct, otherwise it becomes just as meaningless a procedure as testing the console idiot lights that NEVER malfunction. There has to be SOME time when they do so you can at least call for repair or something. One time with Mr D we spooled up to go do a job and his generator light came on. He wisely chose to scuttle the mission -- it turned out there was a malfunction with an engine compartment switchbox that did not switch off the starter -- he would have burned it out and possibly started a fire if he'd ignored it and just went on with the warning light on. Those things are serious and shouldn't be ignored, but they NEVER go off in the sim unless you specifically tell it to malfunction within a certain amount of time, which isn't really the way things happen. You SHOULD be forced to flame out and auto rotate on occasion. Those things DO happen. If they're going to put the "walk around" in the sim, then man, make it meaningful so it actually teaches you something.
Not only that, but don't tell me you haven't had at least one innocent fantasy about Mr. D becoming incapacitated and you needing to take the controls. You gotta be ready for that kind of thing, right?
Visit Lombok, Indonesia. Cool crater lake in Mount Rinjani park
Thank you, will do! I'm making a big list for 2024. Please let me know if you come across anything else worthy of examination.
I’ve not used the new sim yet, but places that could be good are Cuillin Hills in the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Mount St Helens in Washington - it’s apparent the side that blew off, also Matterhorn and the Eiger in Switzerland - that’s sure to have helipads nearby. not sure if these will look better or worse in the new sim…
Helo pilots, scenery flyers could be dissapointed in AI autogen, except in unknown areas. RW pilots should appreciate better model/physics, better airports, signage, and lighting. Better seasons.
Oh the irony... it looks like XP 12 close to ground. That Popping is AI autogen. IMO autogen is a immersion breaker and might not improve with upgrades. We'll see.
2020 is still the champ because I can use it when I want to. I don’t have to sit and wait and hope to get into a server.
AI autogen, close to ground, could look artificial in well known areas, perhaps a bit like XP. I expect the airports and taxiing etc to be better. Once at perhaps, 2000 agl the photogrammetry should kick in, and look similar to 2020. This is what happens when you spend resources on fake animals in a fake forest, all AI generated. I expect to see giraffes poking their heads out of FBO's for awhile. Trees on boats. They will fix it eventually. Scud running helos in LA basin could be dissapointed, vs scud runners in Canada where it is all trees etc.
Sad, sad very disappointing , Will miss your 2020 videos, I thinks there are enough of us that would continue to watch them until 2024 is working as promised, however I think that will be months away.
It makes me more appreciative of fs2020, hopefully they will get it sorted
AI autogen at ground level or close will replace the Chucky Cheese Trees. You can expect bizarre tree placement, until they roll out MSFS 2028 for $300.
Someone please take a picture of fake giraffe. I can't wait for fake animals and fake scenery. Who needs to fly? Are there stewardesses in terminals? Do they have mini-skirts? What are their pronouns?
RW PPL/IGI blah blah. The scenery seems less saturated. A bit more like XP, which I use for instruction. Anyone notice this? Someone please fly the Longitude. I use it exclusively on VATSIM. Is it working? 3 monitors for training? Is multi mon working? Thanks
I would be interested to see how FS2024 looks with bing maps but without the photogrametry (in big cities)... Just to see if the blacksharkAI autogen has improved.
Me too. I'm going to check it out tonight. I spent all last night trying to get all gear mapped over. I really hope Little NavMap will integrate soon, so I can see where I'm going on a more macro scale than the Garmins.
I could feel the disappointment in your voice. I'll be sticking with 2020 for a long time yet (all Ultra settings / 55+fps everywhere and good-looking enough).
