Spring 2021 - RAF Lakenheath to RAF Mildenhall [Full Drive} Roof-Mounted, 4k-GoPro
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
Sooo, the last video was shot on a phone, sitting on a very shaky window-mounted phone holder. It was when I first got over here and wanted to show the family back home what the drive looked like. Over lockdown, I've got new cameras and wanted to redo this video, better and steadier. This is the full drive from RAF Lakenheath to RAF Mildenhall. It's shot with a 4k GoPro mounted on the roof of t...
Big Snow in England! House Tour and Snowman building (Waiting for Lockdown to end)
Просмотров 9193 года назад
February 8th. Finally got a day off work while it was snowing. Figured this was as good a time as any to show my family back home what the house and garden look like. And then I made a Snowman! Hopefully soon the lockdown will be over and I can continue posting travel videos!
London, England - CHRISTMAS 2020 - quick 4k Camera walk-around
Просмотров 9313 года назад
Just playing with a borrowed 4k camera on an overnight trip to London. What a beautiful city during Christmas time! I plan on putting together a whole Christmas video like what I had for 2019, but it's proving a little difficult with most of the markets closed and traveling limited.
TUDDENHAM - The tiny village close to base (Summer 2020 Village Tour)
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.4 года назад
Spent the day in Tuddenham. There was not much to see. What we did see was beautiful and well kept. Probably a great little village to live in if you're stationed here. Not to far from a town with groceries and not too far from either base (Lakenheath or Mildenhall). We are trying to see as many villages and towns as possible. Some, there is almost too much to put into a video, and like this li...
Summer 2020 Barton Mills Town Video Tour [Suffolk, England] American Abby Presents: Barton Mills
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.4 года назад
The tiny town of Barton Mills! One of the close options for living off base if you are stationed at RAF Mildenhall or RAF Lakenheath is this little gem of a town on the River Lark. It's full of old buildings, beautiful history, forest walking trails, and surrounding by rolling farm field. Definitely worth a trip and it's close enough to walk to the city of Mildenhall and it's a very short drive...
Spring 2020 Mildenhall Town Video Tour [Suffolk, England] American Abby Presents: Mildenhall
Просмотров 33 тыс.4 года назад
This is a video tour of the market town of Mildenhall. It was filmed in the spring of 2020. This is the closest town to RAF Mildenhall and very close to RAF Lakenheath. This town is bigger than Lakenheath and most often it's where we go for groceries or to go out to eat. Pink Floyd - Let There Be More Light ruclips.net/video/9tr-0LgKreg/видео.html
American Abby [Episode 9] Katherine Comes to England! London/Dover/Thetford - A Fun, Rainy Weekend
Просмотров 4,4 тыс.4 года назад
Our good friend Katherine comes for a visit from back home. It was a short trip but we packed a lot of good stuff in. The rain slowed us down, but definitely gave the "typical London feel" to the whole weekend. A day in London, a day in Dover, and some time back closer to the Air Base... Also got to take her to our new favorite restaurant here, Cheers. They have an all you can eat steak on the ...

A quick highlight of the 2019 Christmas season. Christmas fayre's, markets, and celebrations. Since Thanksgiving, we've been to Liverpool, London, Barcelona, and down the street to Bury St. Edmunds celebrating.
American Abby [Episode 8] Barcelona, Spain - Warm December Weekend! /\\/Gaudi, Guell, Sagrada Familia
Просмотров 6054 года назад
Abby booked a trip to Barcelona, Spain for a three day weekend. Using Weekend.com, she got a great deal on a flight and a hotel right down the street from Sagrada Familia. With temperatures in the high 60's and low 70's, it was a perfect getaway from the dreary English December she was dealing with back home. After stopping at the obligatory burger shack, she explored the city and the sights an...
American Abby [Episode 7] Liverpool . . Peaky Blinders and the Beatles

A quick weekend up to Liverpool turned out to be a very fun couple of days. It's a very walkable town and it wasn't nearly as crowded and congested as places like London or Cambridge.

American Abby [Episode 6] Volendam and Delft . . .Weekend in the Netherlands!
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.4 года назад
On an ITT trip to Amsterdam, we got a side adventure to Delft (a city in western Netherlands) and a short trip to Volendam (a laketown Northeast of Amsterdam) Volendam was a beautiful lakeside city that had a beautiful port and waterfront full of shops and restaurants. Abby also got to go see a cheese and clog factory right outside of the city. Delft was a breathtaking old city full of absolute...
Fall 2019 Lakenheath Village Tour [Lakenheath, Suffolk, England] American Abby Presents: Lakenheath
Просмотров 23 тыс.4 года назад
This is a short video tour of the Lakenheath Village right next to RAF Lakenheath. We wish we had a video like this to watch before getting assigned to RAFL. We knew nothing about England or the area and came over completely clueless. I wanted to make a video of the actual village with the actual businesses and neighborhoods so you could get a feel of where you were headed before you came here....

NEW, BETTER 4k VIDEO of DRIVE ruclips.net/video/9umbo0UaPXA/видео.html This first video is pretty rough, try the video above for a much steadier, clearer, video of the drive between Lakenheath and Mildenhall. This is the full drive on dash cam from RAF Lakenheath to RAF Mildenhall. I know we wished we could look at stuff like this before we PCS'd over here. With the difference in traffic and ro...

American Abby: [EPISODE 1] Househunting around RAF Lakenheath
Thanks for this. Lovely video
I used to drive that road like a maniac in my MGB in 1973. I was one of the first female airmen to be stationed at Lakenheath. I lived in Woodland Way in an old hunting lodge which I see has been torn down. It was right across from Thetford Forrest.
Was stationed at Mildenhall in the early 90s, lived in Lakenheath base housing. I used to ride my bicycle that exact route to work, about 8 miles one way! Of course, it was still an open base at the time so I went down farther to the gate past the Bird in Hand. Loved living there!
i was born in the next village, eriswell, its changed alot, over the years, left to move to a scottish island,
I have lived in Mildenhall almost all of my life, so it's nice to see my hometown through the eyes of another. However, lots of the businesses you showed, including both banks, have closed down.
How lovely well done and you have our "Hang Loose" hand @ The Old Rectory thank you!
Thanks! What memories for me also. Was stationed at Lakenheath from July 1969-Dec. 1972. Mechanic on F100's and F4's (493rd TFS). Like everyone has already commented, road hasn't changed much although I do like that they have curve warning signs. We were at the mercy of being sober to tell that the curve was coming - LOL!!! Went back as a reservist in 1984, 1994, and 2000 - all to Mildenhall. Loved the UK. Thanks to Google Street View, I still scroll up and down the streets of London where I hung out and partied. Neighborhoods look the same. Someone do the same in Newmarket. Thanks again.
I was there in 84 to 86. I loved it!!
Cool
Journeys to Bury St Edmonds for fish and chips on the weekends too. Air force brat here!!!
I lived in Brandon and we'd hitchhike to Mildenhall as 13 yr olds from Lakenheath. Sweet times...
I grew up in #37. The house you’re taking your sunnies off in front of is Glenn’s house. He’s a hairdresser. My house is to the left. The people who used to live in the house you’re in front of in that scene were Pard and Reg. They’d probably been there since the 20s at least. The last time I was in the UK was just before Covid and I peed in that house. I know the owners. Former post man and his wife was my babysitter. Anyway, surreal but thank you. Just remember, Tudd, like Rudd.
Okay, a little triggering. This is my home town and it’s TUDD like RUDD enham.
Have an amazing day my friend. Thank you for sharing . I like it Very nice
That was not the main gate when I lived there.
Looks like a proper drive. I do miss the old fellow riding his bicycle. The trees are all twice the size. And of course the streets were never painted with stripes
Thank you so much for highlighting this extraordinary church. I also live in Suffolk, but have not yet had the opportunity to visit , as is so often the case for many of us ! The entire county has a wealth of amazing churches, some areas more than others. Thank heaven they were spared during the time of King Henry’s reformation. Many were not. Hope you continue to travel and enjoy your time here. 🙏🏼❤️
I was disappointed to not see Snushalls Fish and Chips, which my friends and I used to frequent as young Airmen at RAF Mildenhall back in the early 70s. But then I saw on TripAdvisor that Mildenhall Fish and Chips is the old Snushalls.
Some of the extra-terrestrials still live here!
I was born in lakenheath in 76 lived on Conyers way I think
The Bell.....
Thanks for this. I was stationed there for 2 years in 2001. Lived offbase in Littleport. Loved every minute.
I landed at Mildenhall in the summer of 1973 when work was progressing on the new terminal and control tower. Got pix, but somebody stole them.
C,Mon think of Stone Henge, GET the Spirits in you , I'd suggest Whisky or Gin.
Plant an Acorn ,Whatch a Forest grow .
2:18 I used to live there back in the 70’s It’s called Chalk Farm and my father was the local doctor. After he retired the surgery was moved to a new building in the centre of the village.
Actually its a bit of a dump!
I loved living in Mildenhall. I can’t believe you didn’t include boot sales! Your video was awesome!!!!
Long time since you posted any new contact Abby........
It really has. I have plenty of video that I just need to edit and get uploaded! I will get on it!
@@americanabby9852 Better do absolutely outrageous behaviour, are you still in the UK?
My late partner used to teach there, in the 60's, then went to High Wycombe in the 70's. I taught at Halton Primary School, Wendover.
I come from Suffolk why do Americans all say country of London the country of Manchester like how would you feel if we said the country of texas or the country LA by the way Suffolk is a county not country county
For visitors to uk, two apps are very useful . 1 too good to go 2 olio Both concern food. Shops and resturant sell their food at the end of the day at cut price. It is worth checking out of you are anywhere in the uk.
this video makes it look very friendly to nature. right now its hard to agree with that in 2022 lmao
I love their coats! Anyway to find out the brand? Love London! Looking at getting stationed in Lakenheath next summer!
I've often wondered about US personal getting stationed oversea, clearly you can't pick were you want to go for the next 3 years, but you must a have a list to pick from and a top 3 preference? How does it work.....? Thanks...
Great to see this Abby. I did a bit of family research and my family (of 12) are listed as living in the Mill House opposite The Bull Inn in 1841 ! Robert Smith was also a Miller opposite and apparently died of gangrene of the foot?!? Industrial accident? Buried in St Marys. Thanks so much for sharing. Terry
We lived there up until the 1960s. We even had a jeep load of 'intoxicated' US serviceman crash through into one of the rooms, luckily no one was hurt!
My father was stationed at alconbury but I was born at lakenheath in 1970. Beautiful!
I heard the legendary paranormal investigator DARK STEEL lives there still, wow I would travel to lakenheath just to see him 😁
Thank you for the posting. My father was stationed at RAF Lakenheath 1979 to 1983. Went to RAF Mildenhall quite a few times. For 3 years I rode the bus to school at RAF Feltwell.
Are the two Triumph Sportscars still rusting away on the roundabout to the base? I was on the scene directly after the accident happened, not pretty. Was there a news report of accident?
Talk about good food. We enjoyed the Scotch Tea Room. Shopped at The Pork Shop for sausages. Many years ago now.
So beautiful having a sunroom to enjoy. We were living out in Moulton for a year with a church up on the hill. They were there from long ago and had a jousting field. We had a meandering stream, a large weeping willow, and a beautifully planted back garden. (I no longer say YARD. ) We extended our tour over and over until they wouldn't allow a longer one. Really loved being there, and we managed 5 years. My son was born at the Hospital on Lakenheath. Our first four years was at 14 Elevedon Way in Newmarket. I really had culture shock when we returned to the States.
The tower of St Mary’s is from the 12th century, and the core of the building is Norman. More than a few hundred years old lol 👍
Actually moving to let’s play s
I grew up in Beck Row, my dad was stationed at and then retired from RAF Mildenhall. This brings back sooooo many great memories of my old home. Thanks for taking the time to make and post your videos - they are very well done.
I lived it beck row two years We were a family of six. We were the first family to occupy a new dwelling. It was tiny. Measure the roof on Google Earth the bedroom I currently sleeping is bigger than the whole house. I think I'll have a cup of coffee. I can make it in my bedroom snack cart with a refrigerator and microwave on it. So I don't have to walk down 24 stairs oh yeah I have twelve-foot ceilings downstairs.
Attended Lakenheath HS
I have just caught up with your videos and I think this is ideal, showing a very typical Suffolk village and it`s amenities. We English do love our greenery and because of our temperate climate with just enough rain , visitors will see that most people take a great pride in showing the work that is put into making private gardens and public spaces look beautiful. Although not Suffolk born ,I have lived in a town south of Bury St. Edmunds for almost 60 years and can say for American families there is a lot to offer in quite a short car ride from Lakenheath. And don`t be shy about taking a ride on public transport ,you can see a lot from upstairs on a double-decker bus, the children will love it .
I heard the legendary paranormal investigator and hero DARK STEEL lives here, would so love to meet him 😁
No mention of flint. A very ancient material.
No mention of the legendary paranormal investigator and hero DARK STEEL who lives there too
Wow - you have probably created the best promotional video for Mildenhall ever! (although it looks a bit more tranquil than normal, due to the Covid lockdown, & there was unusually fantastic UK weather at the time you filmed). Thank you.
This is my home town. Haven’t been back in 5 years. Really miss the place, so nostalgic! thanks for the upload!
Actually you film my childhood home! my god, brought a tear to my eye seeing it again.
I was born in Suffolk back in 76 my parents return to the US when I was very young and I've always wanted to come back
I've just watched a vid of lovely young lady, who lived here when she was six, and now came back at 24, to settle down..there are so many single gals living in UK, as well as whole families!..Must be something in the rainwater! lol
I lived with my family, the last house on queens way, torn down for housing development, they reused the rock walls as accents in the new homes.
