October Garden Tour

While blooms are heading out in the garden here in Wisconsin….there is certainly lots of fall color and texture in the garden. I leave everything up in my garden and prairie with the exception of Hosta, Iris and my Daylillies. And by leaving it up I am leaving up seed heads for the birds, a place for beneficial insects to overwinter and really….a ton of interest in the garden for fall and winte...

Problems in the Garden

Canker is a common disease of pagoda dogwood. This disease can be found throughout most of the eastern half of the United States. Infected branches turn yellow to orange in color and die. Golden canker can kill small twigs, large branches, and the main stem of pagoda dogwood. Golden canker doesn’t kill the roots of the tree. Prune out cankers. Remove and destroy the infected branches.

Adding Diversity to the Prairie in Fall
Hi Dawn, We are in the process of starting to shop for our greenhouse. After comparing all the greenhouse manufacturers, I've decided that BC was going to be the right choice. I know you've had your greenhouse for a couple of years now... would you please tell me what you would do differently? Or better yet, make a video! I do believe that would get a lot of views!!! Thank you for your time and wonderful videos. 😊
Very Inspiring. Those will certainly brighten the winter blahs.
Thank you so much! I needed something to combat the winter blahs!
Those cyclamen are such a pretty color & a great buy! Happy New Year!
Very cheery Dawn!
I’ve done the hyacinth in water thing several years ago, Both are beautiful. I really enjoyed it.
👍🥰
Thankyou for sharing you plant ideas I will try it myself, Very pretty.
You are very welcome! 😊
Stunning!!
Thank you so much!❤
Hi Dawn, Happy New Year to you and your viewers from Australia. You are looking so well and I love your hair colour. Looking forward to all your videos for this year……… Take care. Till next time………Fiona and John 🦘🙏🌷
Thank you so much Fiona and John! It’s always wonderful to connect with my viewers from across the globe! 🦘🙏🌷
I’m in the southern US but “ruts” ? The parts below the bulbs are ROOTS here. IJS… Love the plant & container choices. Very nice!
So beautiful and simple❤ Do you rebloom your amaryllis bulbs or buy new ones each year? I’ve had zero success reblooming mine.
Thank you. I do both actually. Sometimes I have success and other times I forget about them 🤪
Great ideas!!!!
Thanks! 😊
Wow the greenhouse is so pretty in the snow :)
Thank you 😊
Very pretty and cheerful! I get antsy this time of year too ☹
Thank you!! Right!! It’s not just me 😊
Love!
Thank you Eleanor!😊
😮 gorgeous!!! The lights glowing under the snow. Thank you for sharing. Happy New Year 🎊
Thank you! Happy New Year to you too!🎊
Where do you buy the picks used in outdoor arrangements? I keep having an issue with faux berries not holding up in wet, rainy winter weather. The coating comes off. Thanks! Really enjoying learning from these videos!
I buy from all over. Garden centers, Hobby Lobby, Steins etc. where ever I go I am always looking for real looking plastic berries that would hold up season after season. Good luck!!
Dawn, I really enjoyed seeing all of your lovely containers that you designed! Watching your video gave me such enthusiasm to design on a larger scale in containers once spring arrives. Thanks so much for sharing all of your many wonderful designs!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Happy designing!!
Just found your channel and so glad I did. Your gardens are so beautiful and so thoughtfully designed. Where did you find the Gardenia tree and what variety is it? Thanks!
Thank you so much Elizabeth and welcome to my channel!! I was given the gardenia tree and I do not know what variety it is.
Beautiful property and garden. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you 😊🙏🏼
The winterscape is fabulous! Wow! firebrick crab-apple. Gorgeous!
Thank you so much ❤
Gorgeous
Thank you Patricia ❤
So PRETTY! I live in a suburb west of Chicago, zone 5b. We had snow last week and it was beautiful! It’s gone now and we’ve had a bit of a warm up so I got outside yesterday and walked around the garden and was dreaming of what is to come next season, it’s fun to think about what I would like to do in the upcoming season! My seed orders a trickling in and I’m shopping the plant websites😀FUN!!!
I’m excited for you too! It’s a really fun time to think about garden planning!
gorgeous.
Thanks so much Rose!
Wow the nighttime view as you walked to the greenhouse! Amazing. Deanna
Thank you so much.
Benjamin Vogt is awesome! Loved that book
Me too
Hey Dawn Great Job. Have you installed the stove yet? With the sun shining on it for most of the day, what is the internal temp when the outside is 32 deg? Is there a way to have a conversation about the project? Thanks Phil
Hey Phil. Heat sources are in. At 32 degrees and sun shinning I’d say it gets to between 50 and 60. It gets shaded in the morning a bit by the house and in the afternoon by a few pine trees. Email me at seasonaldesignsbydawn112@yahoo.com
So funny, the video started and I was like that is the song I use in a lot of my videos!😊. Wondering from your title, do you do garden design for your profession? I just can’t get over how much color you have in your garden. It’s just stunning! Also do you have much deer and rabbit pressure? Glad I found your channel! Deanna @gardensglory
Thank you. I actually do container garden design for clients. I do not do landscaping design except for my own garden of course! Welcome to my channel. I do have both deer and rabbit pressure. Deer are always here, rabbits depend on if the coyotes are in the area or not. When they are here, rabbit population is very low.
I'm in awe....I love it all...Id like to copy what you've done!!! The coneflower everywhere ❤❤❤❤I'm just in love with your creations ❤❤ty for sharing, I'm in Southern Michigan zone 6a, what do you spray for deer?
Thanks so much Linda 🙏🏻
I use Repel for the deer.
it looks so pretty Dawn. Thanks for sharing and happy holidays.
Thank you so much! Happy Holidays to you too!
Wow your garden is so beautiful! I’m loving these videos! How did you do your natural area? Did you throw seeds or actually plant the plants, echinacea, rudbeckia, sunflowers, and lupine?
Thank you. All by seed!!! I have a video on the prairie.
I am watching this on Christmas day. Really lovely. Thank you.
Happy holidays!
Beautiful! I subscribed!

Thank you! Merry Christmas to you too!🎄
A Winter wonderland! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching!
Beautiful white garden!
Thank you Linda ❤
winter really does humble all of us gardeners 😂 your property is utopia during warmer months, and a magical dream during the colder.
Ha well put. Thank you. Merry Christmas to you!!🎄
Dawn thank you for the garden tour it is beautiful I so enjoyed it. Happy Holiday's
Thanks so much! Happy Holidays to you too!
So beautiful and peaceful! Appreciate that you gave shots of the landscape in summer for comparison, and I especially love your greenhouse at night, the Christmas tree is magical!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked it! Appreciate your comment and Merry Christmas 🎄
Your garden is gorgeous in any season but as someone who lives in a place where snow is an alien concept, this is magical. How pretty are those planters with lights shining through the snow! When you took us through the prairie the landscape reminded me of some of Australia’s coastal areas. Sand dunes instead of snow drifts and the dry grasses of summer instead of winter. I could totally imagine walking through that narrow path and it opening before me to the vista of a brilliant blue sparkling ocean.
Thanks so much! I appreciate your comments!
this is why I do a flocked tree each year. I love the look of a snow covered view!
It really is so magical looking!
Delightful! Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
So gorgeous with the snow! The greenhouse looks fabulous and I enjoyed the seasonal comparisons. Tfs!
Thank you so much Barb!
A beautiful winter wonderland!! Equally amazing in the winter too. We only got a dusting in NJ. Happy Holidays Dawn!
Thank you! Happy Holidays to you too!
The greenhouse with the tree light up, BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for trecking out in the snow and cold. I really enjoyed your winter video. Thanks
Thanks so much! And thank you for watching!
Lovely. What is the plant that is to the right of your birdbath in the Monrovia area. There is a potted heuchera behind it
I think you’re talking about the Red Leafed Mukdenia.
How beautiful your garden is in the snow!! And your greenhouse😍love the way you showed your garden in the summertime too for comparison💚💚
Thanks so much! I’m glad you liked the contrast. 😊
Wow a dream green house! Glad you were able to make this a reality. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much!! 😊
