Did you ever have the feeling of being trapped in a 1011 galley, where no one upstairs would answer your intercom call? Have you ever had to stop what you were doing in the galley to answer the phone handset when the message could have been given over the intercom speaker? This video is for you!

The first Boeing 767-200 entered service with TWA on December 2, 1982, flying cross-country from Los Angeles to Washington Dulles International Airport.
TWA's Final Departure From Lisbon

This video was taken on January 14, 2001 and chronicles the final departure of TWA from Lisbon, Portugal. Taken by a TWA ground employee, you'll see and hear the events surrounding the departure of TWA flight 901 (bound for New York) including the farewell at the gate, taxi and takeoff. There's also a special surprise following the takeoff.

Girt.
good luck on any pax getting out the cockpit exits
Looks like 2001. Sounds like 1988.
So much optimism in this video…yet American ended up being the worst of the remaining legacies. Uninspired cabins, crap service and shabby terminals. Plus the tension between all the different workgroups 2-3 decades later.
Extinguish all cigarettes... man what an age. I barely remember smoking was a thing back then.
I wear a pair of ear plugs around my neck at work in case the fire alarm 🚨 sounds at ear piercing decibel levels. The extremely high decibel alarm makes evacuation needlessly stressful. People need both hands and should not have to plug their ears on the way out
11:10That's being a little selective with the facts. Compared with a JT8D, yes, but I think these early ones had JT9Ds the same as on 747-100s
It was the first aircraft by Boeing that offered a choice of power plants. P&W JT-9D or GE CF-6. Both choices offered 48,000 lbs. Max thrust.
The 767-200 did look cute, you must admit. And though it may have been rather dated by then, it did look good in TWA livery.
The man tried to sing the hell out of that song... But it was a little pitchy, dawg!
It is from 2001, but it sounds like early 90s.
Good thing I’m not watching this video tape on TV, closed circuit transmission, theater, or any other commercial release
Very good!
The liveried jet flew for Cameroon airlines until it was broken up in 2014 :(
1:26...Boeing 737
It’s pretty hilarious how wildly inaccurate this piece of corporate propaganda would prove be in predicting the future. Especially for the TWA flight attendants who transferred to American Airlines with no seniority and were all let go after 9/11. That said, TWA had been gutted relentlessly by horrendous management decisions for 20 years. It was not so much a merger of equals as it was a mercy kill by American Airlines.
Would be challenging to use those old-school ropes to descend down 5:44
Hot little number in red & white when it came out.
I miss our airline :( Missing our TWA family. American destroyed us.
American saved your job or you would have been like Pan Am, Braniff, Eastern and other major airlines which no more exist
@ American did nothing but furloughed thousands of flight attendants, restarted our seniority, and slashed our benefits compared to our fellow AA coworkers. We were put on the back burner…. It’s funny how when I went to Delta, they gave me my seniority from TWA back…
Recently American added an aircraft to its Heritage Fleet saluting TWA - a Boeing 737-800 with a version of the livery TWA used from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s - to the best of my knowledge the livery used by TWA the longest. The choice of a Boeing jet was fitting as BOTH airlines entered the jet age with the 707.
TWA employees can be salty with AA - it’s understandable. But it’s also understandable that this was a terrible merger at a terrible time in history. I’m sure AA regrets it more than anyone else. And let’s face reality - TWA had declared bankruptcy for the third time in 10 years. The only way they were leaving Chapter 11 in late 2001 was through Chapter 7 Liquidation.
There’s a special place for Karl Icahn. That Karabu deal killed TWA.
This merger also called TWAmerican
there was no merger look up you will never find merger it will always say American Airlines acquired TWA for $500 million
The Boeing 767 was the first jetliner with the two-person "glass cockpit."
Can believe Boeing still use these antiquated doors on the current 737s. Give me an Airbus door any day!
They've kept the same door for simplicity sake. Reduces need for crew training on the type. The overwing exits are different on the 737NG and max compared to the 727
@ I’ve worked on both the 737 and A320. I never liked the 737 as it always felt more claustrophobic and of course those stupid doors which were a pain to close from the inside and quite dangerous if the airstairs had been removed.
My choice to the USA was always TWA (L-1011) and only one on a B747 back to Europe. Continental US Flights, only TWA B-727. How I miss them 😢.
I bet the flight attendant narrating is a SCAB from the 1986 strike.
My God, can you just imagine them paying as much attention to cleaning properly today
Bellevideohenri😂😂😂
Oh, NO!!!! They just checked the used blankets and pillows for noticeable stains or dirt and put them right back up there for the next customer.🤢🤢🤢
7:50 - LOL, first class zeats
They look more like economy seats today!😅
A D.B. Cooper training video lol.
Nice package 🤣
love that forward tilting gear!
I noticed no mention of emptying the armrest ashtrays. Was TWA already smoke-free by 1990? Also, all this time I assumed the blankets and pillows were replaced after each flight... I'm trying not to think about the airplane blankets and pillows I used as a kid. Of course, it's not a problem these days, since airlines don't have any blankets or pillows unless you're in business class or maybe flying international.
Who knew about these hidden ropes in the doors? Do those still exist in today's aircraft?
I’ve flown in TWA’s 707 and L1011‘s unfortunately, I’ve never flown in one oftheir 767‘s.
I miss you TWA my first flight on your airline was in 1987 on an L1011 .On subsequent trips from Miami to Los Angeles. I had flown on yourL1011‘s.
These beautiful machines certainly brings back the most happiest memories of the 1980s! I had my parents who are now deceased back then during my Golden years! Now these beautiful machines are gone and I miss them like my parents!
When aeroplane meals were great!
Some of the pilots i know wouldn't fit thru that cockpit window
What I think is amazing is that we just have to use our imagination about these amazing seats and configurations. I want to see what the Ambassador seat looks like! What was I missing out on in 1982?
There was nothing 'amazing' about these seats and configurations. One problem with the 767 was the cabin width. Although this allows a nice 2 X 3 X 2 configuration in Y class, reducing the number of centre seats and, I believe, allowing for a very slightly wider seat than on a 737, the opposite holds true in F and C class where a 7 abreast Y configuration is reduced by only 1 seat per-row to a 6 abreast configuration making for a very narrow F class seat. Look at the F class seats in the video at 7.54. I don't know if these are the real seats or this is a mock up of the cabin, but look at the width of the armrests compared to normal F class armrest width ... these look more like Y class armrests. These seats also lack the traditional wide centre armrest of F class seats with the little drinks table. Many airlines opted for 5 abreast seating in F class 2 X 1 X 2 or 1 X 2 X 2.
MBGA….”Make Boeing Great Again”…….😄
What an excellent aircraft.
2:29 well shit, and here I thought for 40+ years, that cockroaches can’t be aboard or even get on a damn plane….well I’m not flying for a while now after hearing this.
You’d think this a Boeing Dealer commercial due to all the “flashing” of the features on the bottom of the screen. 🤣🤣🤣
100% teleology 0% theory. BRILLIANT - JUST BRILLIANT!!!
Oh wow, nice looking airplane. I hope TWA will never go out of service!
..TWA (1930-2001) exist no more..absorbed by American in 2001..
@@BB-dp4kh I think they were kidding.
You might wanna sit down for this...
L.1011 tristar is the best aircraft ❤
That's a gooooooooood looookin airplane yup!
How old is this video? There's a 707 in TWA's old Twin Globes livery in the background at 1:06
Good point, the hollow logo was 75-79 so maybe early in that time. That would have been very early for color videotape I bet this was taped on an Umatic unit
@@andrewcarson7238This was filmed at the MCI maintenance base using stored turbojet 707-331’s (including N762TW used in this video). I think around 1978-1980 would be the timeframe.
@ 8:53: What?No porn pictures fell out when the door for the escape rope was opened?
