    I noticed no mention of emptying the armrest ashtrays. Was TWA already smoke-free by 1990? Also, all this time I assumed the blankets and pillows were replaced after each flight... I'm trying not to think about the airplane blankets and pillows I used as a kid. Of course, it's not a problem these days, since airlines don't have any blankets or pillows unless you're in business class or maybe flying international.

    What I think is amazing is that we just have to use our imagination about these amazing seats and configurations. I want to see what the Ambassador seat looks like! What was I missing out on in 1982?

    • @Ben-xe8ps
      @Ben-xe8ps 29 дней назад

      There was nothing 'amazing' about these seats and configurations. One problem with the 767 was the cabin width. Although this allows a nice 2 X 3 X 2 configuration in Y class, reducing the number of centre seats and, I believe, allowing for a very slightly wider seat than on a 737, the opposite holds true in F and C class where a 7 abreast Y configuration is reduced by only 1 seat per-row to a 6 abreast configuration making for a very narrow F class seat. Look at the F class seats in the video at 7.54. I don't know if these are the real seats or this is a mock up of the cabin, but look at the width of the armrests compared to normal F class armrest width ... these look more like Y class armrests. These seats also lack the traditional wide centre armrest of F class seats with the little drinks table. Many airlines opted for 5 abreast seating in F class 2 X 1 X 2 or 1 X 2 X 2.

    I’m now in my 34th year as an airline pilot and the L-1011 was far and away the greatest plane I ever got to fly. It was so insanely ahead of its time and had amazing and thoughtful features. DLC was probably the most unique, but the flying stab and trim roller under your thumb were just perfect too. This video shows some of the small details that made it great, like the doors. It had the best designed, most intuitive doors of any plane I’ve ever seen (the 767 has the most confusing I’ve personally dealt with, though I have friends who flew the MD-11 that say that was even worse). It was always clear if the door was armed or not, and it was easy to open normally or in an emergency. If the door is unarmed and you pull the T-Handle the door would open VERY fast, so step away! There were a few things not stated in the video that some subsequent planes adopted (though not all did)). For instance, if the door was armed and someone opened the door from the outside the slide would automatically disarm, which was a great safety feature. Lockheed did it right and I was thrilled to revisit the old girl in this video!

    How many times did I watch this film during recurrent training, I can't remember. But it did cover exactly what needed to be done to evacuate the B-727, Sure, it looks old now, but it proved to be worthy. Along with our cabin team members, we were ready if needed. Flight attendants were the first line of passenger safety and they took the responsibility seriously. TWA was known as the best trained.

      Not only that, the TriStar's powerful Rolls-Royce RB211 turbofans were among the quietest and most fuel-efficient jet engines ever built at the time. The TriStar-1 and -100 used the RB211-22, while the -200, -250 and -500 used the RB211-524.

    • @HEDGE1011

      Let me tell you, though, that hatch was a last resort. Nobody loves the 1011 more than me, but if you’re going to go out that hatch you really want to be first because every reel has razor sharp metal tape in it and you may have up to four other tapes out there blowing around in the wind if you’re last out. It’s not as hazard free as the video implies. The B-747-400 is my other experience with the reels, and the same applies there, only you’re even further from the ground. Still, the L-1011 is the greatest plane I’ve ever flown, and I couldn’t love it more! I’d still be flying it if we still had them.

    I am a pilot for a major US airline. I am disgusted by how dirty our planes have become due to years of neglect and lack of proper cleaning. I really wish we could return to the cleanliness standards of yesteryear. In the meantime I try my best to walk the cabin before each flight to pick up trash and tidy the cabin before passengers board. It’s the least I can do!

      I find the cabins on AA to be among the filthiest among major US carriers with crumbs piled up in every crevice. As a passenger I've occasionally had to discard trash from previous pax left between the seat bottom and window or in the map pockets.
