It’s all about torch control and understanding the mass ❤
@@ringgoldnic my OxyCon doesn’t have a constant pressure it goes up and down in like 30second cycles and no psi meters on the propane either, I’m guessing and winging it mostly
That was great- Thank you! I love making botanicals and find your work inspiring!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your work! Bought your book and received it yesterday. I’m excited to start working on the chains. I’m just starting in silversmithing and your work is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your work and techniques!!
Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank YOU!
Well that’s my Saturday sorted 😍

Amazing look
I learned something new today, thanks so much. just when you knew everything.
Gorgeous! A silversmith?! What a unique, interesting job. I agree with prev comments
Such a great video! You make it so easy to understand what and why you are doing something. Been having luck with loops, balls not so much. Get the first end, but the 2nd can't get big enough. Will keep trying. Love your style and you are so kind to share your knowledge. Thank you
These are beautiful!!
Question about fire stain. Do you not worry about removing it? I’m not referring to firescale that comes off in pickle. But stain…where the metal almost looks bruised. I find the only way to remove that is to sand it off. Ideas? Not a concern?
@@ShannonK-mj8bd are you referring to the metal that I fuse? It may have fire stain since I’m not using flux and heating it excessively. However, I carve into it and that gets rid of any fire stain.
Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Very informative and detailed. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the amazing video. Question: does the wire have to be "half hard", or will "dead soft" be ok too?
@@maramlyn dead soft will do bit you may need to work harden it afterwards.
is klyre fire the same as adhesive?? love the vid, thank you for sharing :-)
@@aggiraffelover13 are you referring to kiln firing?
@@ringgoldnic no not kiln firing, but klyre fire, it's a liquid that you paint onto the metal before the enamel powder. I think it's an adhesive?? I have another question though, what size dapping hole is the dish?? My dapping block is small for a little dish.....what size do you use for these cute bowls?
Lovely ring and the tutorial is so clear ❤️ Thank you so much for showing. One question please how large is this ring, looks like only wearable for people with very long fingers. 3 layers plus moon, for short fingers.. Will it be possible too ? Thank you in advance 🍀
@@miekemanders6598 the size of the ring depends on width and gauge of silver. They can be made in pretty much any size.
Great tut! Thank you!!
Thanks Nicole!
Tried with copper today, number seven tip wasn’t enough heat to pool the solder, switched over to the rosebud smelting tip, easier.
@@philippriestman8516 good to know!
Thank you for this tutorial. That's a really creative idea! (Just don't forget that second "e" in "breathe")
thank you for this!! do you have a vid for using the multi flame/rosebud tip??
@@aggiraffelover13 I don’t, I’m sorry!
Wanna give it a try thanks 😊 for the amazing tutorial ❤
I have learned something new and beautiful with leather, and even to make washers, what a great idea Nicole! Thank you so much for be an inspiration🙏.
These are adorable, thank you for a great idea😃.
Really outstanding...love these beautiful pieces! Thank you for this tutorial, I will give it a try❤.
Really outstanding...love this beautiful pieces! Thank you for this tutorial, I will give it a try❤.
This is lovely. I make a lot of 'mountain ' but haven't tried this technique, definitely on my list. Thankyou. Patsy
So in AWE of your gorgeous pieces! Thank you for generously giving all the details and the specs of the tools you're using as well. Can you please tell me what gauge silver wire the hoops are made from? Thank you so much <3
They are 12 gauge. Thank you!!
@@ringgoldnic Thank you so much! <3
Beautiful work! ❤
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I have cut my leather belt from when I was a kid, I grew up in Texas, and yes, I have my name on the back of my belt. No way I can wear it so I want to cut it into a cuff and this is exactly the type class I’ve been looking for. Thank you so so much.
Please take me off you web site! I am disable
Such an amazing tutorial.. thank you! I've never seen LOS applied like that! Beautiful piece💖
Either the LOS needs to be warm or the piece. The LOS lasts longer than just one day if it remains room temperature, so I prefer that method.
these are gorgeous and you are a great teacher. Got your book too! Cant wait to make these earrings
Wonderful, thank you!
I’m impressed by that mega bowl of silver dust! Great video Nicole. And loving your book too!
Haha I was too!
LOTS of carving! And thank you!
What are the silver tweezers you are using to place the solder? They look like nice quality...
These are some of my favorite. I don't use them when soldering, but they are precise, and they can go in the pickle: www.riogrande.com/product/titanium-tweezers-set-of-3/115561GP/?code=115561
Thank you for sharing this incredible tutorial, Nicole! I truly enjoyed watching and learning and am going to try my hand at a mountain range soon
Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for this Nicole!! I will have to make this. When we were in the Tetons with our grandsons, we had to get up really early to get to Jackson Hole airport and as we were driving out of the park a HUGE moon was coming over the mountains!! I will never forget that sight! It was incredible and I have always wanted to do something with this memory............beautiful, thank you!
Unusual texturing on the rectangular landscape piece.
This is a wonderfully educational tutorial for me. My Aha moment was when you used both pieces of the sawed mountain to create background and foreground. Will definitely try this! Thanks for sharing your talent!
Oh good!
Omg that is absolutely gorgeous. I'd apply the same technique to a tall cuff bracelet you could do maybe a skylines of different cities. The ideas are endless really. It looks so so incredible. I hope you selling your work for the true value as that is pure talent and technique showed there. I am brand brand new to jewellery making fresh of the boat! I aspire to be able to make one of those some day.
Great idea! I'd love to see the skylines/cities come to life.
@ringgoldnic Just imagine London or Nyc a skyline with lots of many shaped buildings it would indeed be a tall bracelet around 9cm depth I reckon but you could layer and layer possibly even insert a amber bead or something for the eiffel tower light. Or empire state light. So many variations its certainly food for thought isn't it. Even Chicago with all those water ways and you could easily represent the wind with your round burring tool and attempt a blue patina I'm the canal/river part. I'm going to certainly play around with some of these ideas. But because I am super new I am only using copper right now silver too expensive here in UK. How do I join fuse copper to copper? Just plenty flux with a low and slow approach untilvi hit that dark red ? Anyhowbi talk too much if you can offer a idea I'd love to hear. Ps will be coating the piece after too to stop from tarnishing I want my design to remain
@@kirtandrews1859 fusing does not need flux, and the temperature of your torch needs to be hotter than any normal soldering flame. I would encourage you to just play around to understand how hot your torch needs to be.
@ringgoldnic Thank you. Best way to learn I find is hands on. No pressure restraints just go for it. OK fab I like I don't need to use solder jsut yet just to fuse copper to copper. I was thinking possibly tiny rivets maybe if needed
BTW...your book is delicious...
Thank you so much!
WoW!...i have been wanting to do something like this since moving to the mountains recently...thank you for sharing this beautiful tutorial! i am excited to give it a try!
Thank you! I’ve been getting firescale lately and I think I’m annealing with a flame that’s too hot. I really appreciate this video! Also, how would one go about taking a class from you? 😊
Second time I watched this today…..inspiring, thank you 🙏
wonderful!
@@ringgoldnicI’m getting closer to making this……..it’s taken me eight years! ( I paint and bash copper for embellishing oak frames ala arts and crafts)….anyway I have a question Nicole……I made a stamp for branding my wooden frames and stamping the copper, and hopefully silver in the future….it’s similar to your tattoo, so I don’t want to use it if it has some profound meaning, I’ll change it. My mums maiden name is Norwegian, ‘Broberg’ it means mountain bridge in Norse. So you can see the obvious symbolic echo. A mountain with a bridge. What does actually symbolise, your tattoo that is. Ignore me if I’m being familiar and or rude.🙏
Words can’t describe this beautiful work of art. A ring of mountains ! Thank you for taking the time to share. I am very happy to have found your channel. Best wishes to you always. 💛
This is a question I’ve had for awhile. It looks like the 2nd layer of mountain range is taller than the back layer of mountains in some spots and therefore not flush with metal behind it? Does it slump down to the backplate? What are those parts soldering to? Thanks in advance!
Great question! I should have talked about this as I was creating the demo. Once I soldered the second layer on, I used my nylon mallet to hammer it down so that it became flush with the back plate. Then I ran my torch across the entire piece again so that the solder on the overlapping portions of the mountain flowed between the layers. Does that make sense?
Yes it does! Thank you. I’ve seen so many pieces where I’ve wondered about how they did this very thing! Thanks for clearing that up for me!
As a true expert you make it look so easy. Thank you for the inspiration.
Love your videos!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your talent. I received your beautiful book and can’t wait to study. ❤❤
