This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I have cut my leather belt from when I was a kid, I grew up in Texas, and yes, I have my name on the back of my belt. No way I can wear it so I want to cut it into a cuff and this is exactly the type class I’ve been looking for. Thank you so so much.
@ not at all. The book is amazing, explaining everything incredibly clearly and with great photographs! I’m recommending it to all my crafty friends! X
Hi Nicole, I came across your work on a podcast recently. Someone was interviewing you and your conversation struck a chord so I found you on Insta. I am brand new to silversmithing and your work inspires me beyond anything else I have seen (and i have seen a lot!! Hours on youtube watching tutorials 😂) But with you I feel heart, passion and above all unique inspiration! I am so grateful I stumbled across your work! Thank you for your generous insight into your technique, can’t wait to get to my bench to try fusing 😍 My husband keeps telling me to catch my silver dust, i will never waste another piece after seeing this technique!
Fabulous oh thank you so much for posting this, I made my version of your tutorial part one just using a cabochon setting . You are such an amazing artist I have followed your for years and really enjoy your online classes you offer and highly recommend them to folks .
@@ringgoldnic OK what book are we talking about? Do I need to get on a waiting list myself? Help please????? Hugs 🤗, Michelle Or can I find it on one of your Instagram post? I’ll probably have it figured out before you get back to me!!!! Haha 🤗
I don’t know if I’m speechless or if I absolutely love you.!!!! no, I’m not weird!!!! lol 😂 You know I have made cuffs before, and I never ever thought about using rivets to secure the cuff ends….. Anyway, I love the cuff that you designed, I love how you teach!!!! You have my brain going like a washing machine!!!! I have ideas swishing around in my brain… thank you for becoming a RUclipsr… and thank you for sharing the Nicole knowledge…. You are so appreciated. Big hugs 🤗, Michelle I have some beautiful leather pieces that I’ve gotten from resale stores and Hobby lobby. I’ve gotten some beautiful leather packages All kinds of different variety of leather. So when I do make one, you’ll be the first one to know.❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing your technique with us, Nicole! I'm gonna try it! I've been making similar leather bracelets recently, and I haven't yet found a fastener style I like. I suspect this may be what I'm looking for! You might be interested to learn a variation on the leather bracelet you made: Instead of using new leather, I've been using decidedly old leather for the cuff. I make them from used "stirrup leathers" from English saddles. The stirrup leathers ride against the horse's skin, and they typically get soaked in sweat every time you ride the horse. Getting soaked in sweat and then drying again between rides gives old stirrup leathers a natural aged look that makes the bracelet look like you've been wearing it for decades. Stirrup leathers break, eventually, and I collect the broken ones to make into bracelets. Each one is a simple leather belt, about the same length as my 34 inch waist, so a broken stirrup leather makes numerous bracelets. They are not suitable for someone who might be allergic to horse sweat, of course, but I've never experienced any irritation from wearing them.
Good stuff. Thanks, you make it look all so easy! You hit on two subjects I have been thinking about recently. I am guessing the silver dust is sterling and not fine? Thanks again.
Another question! In the previous video when you riveted the fern and the stone bezels you created little washers. Is there a reason why/why not you don't add the washers to the rivets for the ends?
You're asking why I use rivets for the ferns and not the cuff ends? The rivets for the ferns are so that the rivets don't pop through the leather as it expands. With the cuff ends, the metal itself will hold the rivets in place. No washers are needed. Does that answer your question?
Question: I see that when you are soldering both the tubing and the "T" to the sheet they are flush with the sheet (same length as the sheet...1.5") Then at 5:12 minutes into the video you show the "T" part and it appears to be sawed some distance from one end. What distance is recommended? Thank you for this video!
@@ringgoldnic thank you so much! I'm going to try this project of making a leather bracelet with these beautiful ends. I've never done riveting nor have I made a "clasp" and this will be a good project for me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Interesting! Thank you for the tip. I often use recycled belts that I find at thrift stores, but knowing additional sources is awesome. Thanks!!

Also, that bowl of fairy dust made me gasp!!!
right?!? I've collected a bit over the past few years with all the carving I do!@@weirdlywiredjewelry
What was the polishing bit you used? Not radial but the poofy looking one? Also, awesome lesson.
It's a fiber wheel. Item No. 338133 through Rio Grande.

Right around 1/4"
