I’m surprised by how much effective DisplayPort is compared to HDMI. 80gb?! 4k 240hz and 8k 120hz?!?! Is there any reason why they aren’t as utilized for other products, like consoles, or most computers?

what's with the ignorant clowns commenting that DP doesn't carry audio? have they even used a DP cable in the last 10 years?
All the consumer arguments are largely moot. DP is used largely in enterprise networks and equipment. It's not a matter of choice. Use HDMI at home and stop worrying about it, unless you are a tech geek and won't be the idiot showing up with equipment using the wrong cables (my reality whenever ANYONE sets up a presentation in halls without communicating with IT 1st)

DisplayPort is better, end of story, due to all of the technical advantages you detailed in the video. "Found on a wider range of devices" isn't a competitive advantage for HDMI. Does someone purchase an HDMI cable and then start shopping for components with an HDMI port?
Looks like HDMI and DP are electrically compatible. On my video card I have four DP ports and an adapter from DP to HDMI. A standard monitor with HDMI input works nice.
So where does Mini DisplayPort come into all this? What’s the difference besides more compact? Is there any quality loss?
Former isp tech for whatever reason I tend to get faster results on a 5.0 ghz band vs 6.0 when im next to the moden .
Display Port has a latch system that holds the connector in place avoiding unwanted disconnections while HDMI lacks such system.
i have a 280hz monitor but recently it went black one day and when it started working again it only caps at 144hz (i used to have it at 240) i would use a display port for it but im not sure what type it was do I need to get a new displayport or do you have an idea on what the problem might be?
i have a 3060 but might upgrade to a 4060 or 4060ti soon

If you plan on using a KVM go HDMI. Decent Display Port KVM's are very expensive.
HDMI is for TVs DPI are for gaming. :P Seriously Display port offers a higher quality display image if you care to do 8k and 12k gaming it's slightly better then HDMI at 4k too

Replaced my aging computer a short bit ago, and it came with one HDMI and three display ports. My montiors only eat HDMI, so there was a bit of a problem. But just a bit, since there's snazzy adapters that cost three bucks and work perfectly well. Still, I think if I need to replace my monitors, I'll look for display port connections.
I don't know why but 3D movies released after 2015 are basically 2D movies .. We don't get that pop out effect anymore😢
HDMI is proprietary, and the consortium controlling it will not permit high bandwidth open source Linux drivers to be developed to support the interface. Use DisplayPort for your 4k needs.

Besides what was said in the comments about proprietary HDMI and open DisplayPort, HDMI is made by studios for entertainment, home theater, etc. DisplayPort is and always has been made for computers. HDMI for computers is just a matter of convenience.

DisplayPort has a locking mechanism, HDMI not. I have a monitor with a loosened port, my HDMI cable keeps falling out. My vote is for DisplayPort mostly because of the free patent it has, I hate the whole Patent System and try to avoid those companies who abuse it when possible.
