Are there competitions for writer/illustrator combos?

I cannot stress enough how important "Learning the difference between art and skill" truly is. Bc many young talented aspiring artists tend to think that their talent is actually their skill and not practice the basics, furthermore feeding thrir ego. But once that bubble bursts and they understand that talent is nothing without practice and that skill is not something you gain from birth, but that its something you earn through years of training, they panic and lose confidence and sadly some of them even give up on drawing. (I'm one of those ppl😅 but im not giving up on art. Never)

First of all, because i don't want to be a negative nelly, i'll say that some of the art you created here was really interesting and even inspirational. i think the pages that were pretty much dedicated to one image were top notch, and i think you did amazing for your first time and with the restraint. now here will offer some constructive criticism: your art speaks for itself, and so many panels i felt like there didn't need to be any dialogue at all, and found myself distracted but somebody saying or think something obvious. i think a great example is the panel where she sinks, and her eye is highlighted, it's really a great panel and doesn't need any words. also, and i understand the time restraint is responsible for this, but i felt like the mirror system is over explained and not fully developed, whilst the ending is forced resolution. i think if you took this one shot, and expanded it into an actual idea, or at least a one shot with more pages, you could flush out your interesting characters, fix some rapid pacing, and develop the theme of "legend" which i felt was somewhat unexplored here. i was extremely motivated by your efforts, your beautiful art, and your documentation of these things, sharing what you learned, and i hope to kick myself out of the rut i've been in and get back to creating.

I think the chibi style not only saved time but also made the impact of 20:00 a lot greater bc it felt quite different despite it being the same character.

Tbh even if the art of the antagonist took 3 days I think it turned out so well I’ll say it’s kinda worth it, the detail & aura is immaculate. And you seem to be quite happy with it🪞

Amazing work. I'm entering the Silent Manga Contest next month, and this kind of ordeal makes you realize that more than drawing well or consistently, the real difficulty is to do something good ON TIME... Mad respect for having made something looking so good for your entry. Even though you didn't win it's a big learning experience.

I participated too, and lost. But without regret! It gave me a creative impulse for which I am grateful. Good luck for the future. It will be for us next time!

love your art style and its good to see that you tried your best, and i totally get why you would not want to do another manga, but it seems like you learnt some lessions, plus since you did not have all the time you could have, i 100% think that if you try again you will do much better and things will be noticeably less stressful! oh and at 19:25 the audio seems to have been bugged or something oh and heres my 🪞
