This hits too close. The same thing happened to me like a year ago and I was truly crushed and felt stupid. I saw the potential red flags as well, but thought I was just being too safe. Right around the bank account and asking if I received the “check” through email. I told them I was going to ask my bank the next day on their input on the check if it was really real. The scammer got mad and started getting hostile through text. I also got in contact with the “business” that I thought hired me and they came back saying it wasn’t them. Because all of that had happened to me it took me a long time to look at art again. I had tried hard so many times to make art my dream job and I have to say, I’ve had more scammers trying to scam me to make them a drawing than actual real people. I still haven’t stopped drawing, but it is harder for me to draw these days knowing scammers are always lurking.

Good news man. Algorithm found you, blow up incoming. Biggest red flag I saw was the English. It just wasnt right. Frankly i dont know if i would have gotten fooled or not, but definitely set off alarm bells. Really sorry this happened to you, glad you didnt get 100% scammed
@@wimosuka its kinda scary honestly, even I can remember a few examples when it was so real, the only thing that saved me was just pure luck - the fact that I just randomly decided to ignore them

So again, i wish you the best man :/ I will say you have tons of potential, your editing skills are amazing, the way you talk is very thoughtful and forward, starting a career doing youtube or anything similar isn't easy but i'd say you have the skills.

I realized half-way through your video that my jaw had dropped. 😅 What a ride they took you on. I’m so wary these days… thanks for sharing this story and getting the word out to be careful. Glad you and your friends decided to do some digging before you deposited anything. Was the check an image that they wanted you to take a photo for mobile deposit? I worked at a bank and saw a number of (young) people scammed with check images which were from compromised accounts. After you deposit it they’ll claim there was an overpayment and ask you to repay them some amount with a wire transfer, money order, or gift cards (which can’t be reversed). Then when the check bounces as fraudulent, you’re stuck with the loss. That they sent you a check in advance was another huge red flag and you were very right not to deposit it. Another way you could’ve investigated (and for future reference or anyone reading) would be to take the check to the bank it was drawn from or call to verify if it is legitimate. Often times it will be an account that has already been closed and flagged as compromised.

I didn’t know any of this but my gf explained me pretty much the same thing you just wrote, thank god for her cuz I would’ve definitely fallen for it 😩but thank you for explaining it in so clearly for everyone to understand! At one of my previous art jobs, my boss kept pushing me to do secretary work and gave more and more design jobs to my male coworker despite the fact that my designs were consistently out-selling his designs. We had even studied at the same university, so the only difference was that I'm a woman. As for interviews, I've had friends tell me that as soon as they met the employer in person they acted differently than they did over the phone. You're right that they'll never say it directly, but you'll know when it happens.
