I’m not familiar with this machine. I did a quick search on Janome’s website and did not find anything to indicate this machine has a comparable quilting guide bar.

I used Pellon’s 987F.

I did use a walking foot! But I just about always use one! I have sewn bowl cozies without a walking foot.

I like for my pillowcases to be a little long too!

Hi, Debbie. I cut mine 15”x19”, so the finished size is 14x18.

With the fold on the right and raw edges to the left, measure over 1" from the fold and make a mark along the raw edge. Then measure down from the raw edge along the fold and make a mark 2" from the top. Use your ruler to draw a diagonal line from the 1" mark down to the 2" mark. It’s been my experience that people who are not familiar with the bowl cozies just don’t realize how handy they are until they try one! I also include use and care tags when I gift bowl cozies.

That’s disappointing to hear that you’ve had to return your iron! And definitely short-sighted on the customer service side. Although I can understand them wanting to receive the product first. Some companies send you a return label and as soon as that label is processed by the shipping company (such as UPS or FedEx), the ship out the replacement. Definitely an inconvenience. I’m really sorry about your experience.

It depends on how big you want the bottom to be. I would try making a paper template and see what you come up with. Don’t forget to allow for seam allowances.

I'm not sure about your comment. The loop should be placed with the raw edges even with the raw edges of the stocking and the cuff. Also, the loop is placed against the right side of the cuff. So the layers are stocking, cuff, loop, and then lining. You can see this at 21:40. Hope this helps!

That's interesting. The recommendations from the manufacturer have changed through the years and also varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. I try to stay on top of this, but things change. ALWAYS BE SURE TO READ AND FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS. The latest (as of 11/13/2024) printed instructions from the Pellon brand of Wrap-N-Zap states: "We suggest cooking in 1 minute intervals for a maximum of 8 minutes. Never leave the microwave unattended. Do not use in a Convection/Microwave oven." Hope this helps!!

Rather than telling you what size to cut your fabric, I give recommendations so you can customize the size to fit your needs. Those recommended sizes are: 11″x14″ 12″x16″ 12″x18″ 14″x18″ My placemats were 12"x18" Hope this helps!!

Yes. That is what I do as well. This secures the batting to the fabric and keeps it from shifting. You can see at 4:10 in the video that I draw the diagonal (corner to corner) stitching lines and stitch basically an X using cotton thread. Thanks for pointing this out! Pam Baker Hooked on Sewing

That's a good question. I have made the reading pillow where it is lined. I only sewed the lining as basically the backing for the front since that is what I quilted. I do have a tutorial "in the works" for sewing the reading pillow with a tie closure and one with a zipper closure. If you aren't using directional fabric, you could even simply the pattern by cutting one piece of fabric for the front and back of the pillow cover. So many options.... I find it easier to work in one area before moving to the next area. You already have your dart ready to sew, so why have to come back to sew after marking the other two darts? Also, some marking tools rub off easily, so you might lose them.

Honestly, it was because I thought I had already made all the marks. I make so many bowl cozies that I don't typically even make the marks, so it was a mental slip. Also, it makes it quicker for me to stitch the first two marked darts, then refold the pieces to mark the second two darts and stitch the darts. If I mark all four darts and then stitch the darts, it makes an extra step. (Mark, refold, mark, stitch, refold, stitch versus mark, stitch, refold, mark, and stitch - so 7 steps versus 6 steps.) I cut the batting slightly smaller than the fabric. So, that helps to reduce the bulk. I have made cozies with rounded corners. Haven't decided if I like them more or not. Here's the pros and cons, in my opinion. Pro squared corners: The squared corners give you more to hold onto when lifting the bowl filled cozy out of the microwave. Con squared corners: The corners tend to get in the way when you are using the cozy. For example when you ladle soup into a bowl. Really, it's just a matter of personal preference. So, try it with the rounded corners and let me know what you think!

I find the batting may shrink a little, but not enough to make a difference. Also, I lay my cozies out to dry instead of drying in the dryer.

Unfortunately you need to use batting that is deemed microwave safe.

I typically don’t wash the bowl cozy fabric first because I don’t pre wash the cotton batting.
