Thanks for another great episode! The Elder Pine of Jukai is a Kamigawa spirit from the Jukai Forest. It's a freaky looking thing because the spirits of Kamigawa were raging due to the fact that Takeshi Konda stole a part of a main spirit, O-Kagachi. The Elder Pine of Jukai was one of the lesser spirits terrorizing the inhabitants of Jukai Forest, including the Orochi (snake people) and Azusa.

I feel like DRC is better for elsha than this? This card needs to be 3CMC to be worth imo. Just RWU. even then...

This is one of my favorite Timmy cards, but Jeskai and one is so clunky that it's often the 101st or 102nd in my casual decks.

A future video topic idea: Pet cards that are fringe in meta list (or just in general) that people swear by work efficiently and argue the case for/and/or against. Let's see some spicy 🔥 auto includes people claim that are cedh staples in their own lists. Example: Archivist of Oghma in Bluefarm, I run tournaments with it and without it and I'm still undecided on it's inclusion, because it's like my 101th card, meta versus my personal experiences.

I used to run Whirlwind in my very early Elsha lists. It got cut a while ago, maybe I'll test it out again. 4 mana is soooooo much though.

This is not a good card, but Rose from the Fallout set is a very overlooked robot.

I came from Yugioh. There we have Pot of Desires, a card that makes you exile face down the top 10 cards of your deck, to draw two cards. When it was released there was a debate if it was good or bad, because some felt the drawback was too high, you loose so many cards, but others correctly evaluated it as one of the best, if not the best generic draw spells in the game. When I saw Demonic Bargain in the bulk of my LGS, I knew it's a great budget (or bargain) tutor. The probability of exiling the card you want to search in a pile of 99 singleton is pretty low. Even lower if you run redundancy in your effects.

This was my favorite episode so far! Great discussion guys. On a similar note, I think lim-dul’s vault would be a great card to look at next. It’s basically vamp tutor for 2 and 0-18 life!

Playing cards that tuck what you are searching for to the bottom of your library could be helpful. Also, 13 cards are more than 14% of your library, even when casting this spell on turn 1.

Loved the card and discussion on this ep! Kyle brought up good points, and no matter what I believe this card will create some fun discussion around the table when it's played. I've definitely fired-off Demonic Consultation in panic as a way to crawl back into a game, so I enjoyed the comparisons. I think this card is gas if you're in a turbo list with a critical mass of interchangeable combo pieces, OR if you're like me and running a combo-less pile of redundant hatebears to annoy and and attack your friends with. I'll consider this one if the future, thanks guys.

I'm currently working on a Sefris cEDH list and was wondering if you guys could cover Chancellor of the Annex. I will admit it's a goofy card but having a pregame effect that slows the table down which then acts as a stax piece that I can reanimate later seems pretty good to me.

This card plays so much better than you'd think just looking at it.

I play golgari in cedh as i love its play pattern and the fact most people don't know my combo lines, but there is a delicate balance on how parasitic you'd want your deck to be. Force of despair is an auto include in golgari every time along with assassins trophy, abrupt decay, and culling ritual. Those are really the only removal cards you'd want to run and each has its own use cases. For your protean hulk question the combo i use this could stop me from winning but you would have to interact the moment i have sacrificed the activated sleeper on the field and no later as by then id have mikaeus the unhallowed and walking balista. With the first sacrifice of hulk thats the set up with 1 or two sac outlets, a protection creature usually Sylvan safekeeper, and activated sleeper to make it a copy of hulk. But there is a variant the hulk combo thats a 3 step hulk that can get around it using Phyrexian Delver after the sleeper set up if you were to remove the sacrifice outlets, it is used to get another outlet and hulk back on the field to get the end combo. The variant is really only used for all in hulk which isnt really played the often anymore in favor of necrotic ooze back up combos. I made this comment at 13:16 as i wanted to get this thought down as i had it in my mind. Love the vids you two.

Okay, I liked and subscribed even though I’m a Spotify listener mainly. And maybe this is engagement bait, but can I just say I am mildly upset (in an unserious way) by your usage of the term devil’s advocate in this episode and all your episodes? Normally I’d suspect the devils advocate to be the one advocating in favor of the unpopular idea. The real devil’s advocate is therefore the one trying to convince you that X card is good. Not the one who holds the popular opinion based on the card’s usage statistics. Definition: a person who expresses a contentious opinion in order to provoke debate or test the strength of the opposing arguments.

I have no tournament data to back this up but I think Machine God’s Effigy is worth considering as one of the main “clone” slots inside a blue deck. 4 mana looks like a lot for the effect, but MGE is also an untapped mana rock, so you essentially get a mana back and you get to keep the acceleration around. That at least puts it on rate with Phyrexian Metamorph, and while it doesn’t often the flexibility of copying The One Ring, it does provide a clone of something that is remarkably hard to remove. Best result for me has been copying a bowmasters that couldn’t be dealt with the entire rest of the game.

I love how many cards you guys talk about that ive had in my queue for testing. Force is definitely something i was looking at in low color black decks especially back when tivit was on a tear.

Blood Frenzy is a great card; the red Berserk, one of only a handful of red spells that destroys a creature without damage.

I’m quickly learning a spell can be absolutely awful and if it costs 0 you have to at least consider it

Hey! LOVING these episodes! So good! I’m catching up on the backlog! I do have a question: As a player who’s never been in the CEDH format, always very casual, there’s a lot of slang used that I’m not always sure what you’re talking about. Do you two think you would ever do an episode that covers all the different slang used in a CEDH space? I would really love that. Anyways, great job as always!

Ghostly Pilferer blows this out of the water in a post bowmaster world

I think, that I would rather play Ghostly Pilferer. 2 pips are difficult and one draw per turn cycle is not good enough. I think this would be a good replacement for shadowmage infiltrator, but that card sees no play since 2015.
