We’re just an ordinary family that loves going out and enjoying God’s creation. We enjoy doing things as a family including our current project of building a camper out of a wrecked suburban. We will be documenting this project as well as some of our trips in it. We’ll also share some of our adventures and how we do things with the kids. We hope you enjoy it and that in some way we can be a blessing to you.
Camping and Hunting with 6 Kids
We're back in the Ozarks to try to find some meat for the freezer! Things didn't go quite as we hoped but we still enjoyed a good trip with good food and time with the kids. Not every trip is smooth, and you don't always get that big buck you dream of. The time with the kids is one of the most important things and they enjoyed the trip so we'll count it as a success!

It Finally Rained Again! Water Crossing and Waterfalls are Back!

A month of drought and then we get massive rains that end up flooding a lot of areas, especially the Buffalo River. That's just how it goes here in Arkansas, you can never count on anything except inconsistency from our weather. We got out after the river has dropped from the flood and went back up to the Buffalo to do some more of the Buffalo River Trail and to check out the flood levels. Merc...

#homesteading #familyadventure We need to get our boar separated from our gilts before they get bred. I don’t know if we got it done in time. If not then we’ll just have a few more piglets than we originally planned on. The chicks are also growing fast so we needed to get them into a bigger pen. We’ll be building a big chicken coo- in the near future as soon as we can afford the materials. Merc...
This Was Longer Than Expected - Hiking the Buffalo River Trail with our Kids

We're back working through the Buffalo River Trail. It's still been very dry but rain is on the way and it won't look like this for long. One of our favorite parts of the Buffalo River area is looking at the old homesites that are still remaining. Life was very different here before it became a national river. Despite some mechanical issues that were my own fault we absolutely enjoyed getting out for a perfect sunrise and awesome hiking trip. It's not every day you get to camp on a bluff and enjoy a moonrise and sunrise. The Buffalo River is also an incredible scenic area and we have a lot more to explore there. What is that a 3 wheel drive suburban
It’s called no front locker. No GMT800 had a front locker from the factory
Nice build! Maybe some carry handles cut into the sides would be a nice touch
Yes it has handles on the front and back now that I added later
You forgot the person that likes the burnt crust on marshmallows
Personally I don’t understand how anyone could like that, might as well just roll it in ash 😂 They are marshmallows though, we’re probably all crazy for eating them!
Jaymes makes some great knives
Yes he does!
You both are great parents. Sometimes I don't know how you do it! We have 3 grown children and a 12-year-old we adopted and now 5 grandchildren, but we don't have them ALL at one time! lol God bless!
We try, we have our good moments and bad moments just like everyone else! Sounds like you've got a lot going on too!
Can you give me a little bit of history of that suburban?
Which one? 😂
Good video. I want to do this to my Suburban. How is everything holding up?
The parts themselves are holding up well. I have been having an issue with the upper control arm moving but I think I need new cam bolts to fix that problem. I'm pretty seriously looking at removing it all and going with a Tahoeoverlanding solid axle swap.
@trove1312 The ball joint moving from the knuckle or the bushings moving? Do you think your lift has anything to do with it? I'm seeing some bad experiences with Kryptonite and the lift always plays a factor in the review it seems.
@@Ace-44 It's actually the arm moving where it's bolted to the frame. The cam bolts just clamp it in place for alignment but it keeps slipping in those brackets. It really has nothing to do with the kryptonite part. I think I just need to look into some better cam bolts.
@trove1312 Gotcha. Appreciate the feed back!
The Parker-Hickman homestead is always one of my favorites.
Ours too!
Needs to go back through. Didn't get the mud off the first time.😊
Yeah, I agree😂
where did you get the bumpers?
I bought mine used but it is made by ARB. Baseline overland is a good place to purchase it from. They have a lot of other products for Chevy's
Nice video. A question for you: I am looking at GMT800 Tahoe/Suburbans. I keep finding nicely kept models, but the one option they don’t have is the Z71 package. I travel in similar type of terrain (difficulty wise) in the Southwest. Do you think the Z71 (or more specifically, the G80 locker) would be a deal-killer? I am thinking of just getting one and adding a winch or using max trax.
The G80 is very nice and allows us to go a lot more places than we would without it. However a lot of them came with the G80 even if they weren't Z71. I had a 05 yukon xl that had the g80 and skid plates. I would just look at the glove compartment and see if it has the G80 code in there. You can also look underneath and see if they came with the factory skid plates.
I worked on my uncle's dairy farm up until I moved out on my own. Everything was manual brakes, steering, transmission and crank windows (if it had windows). Lol. I took my driver's test with a truck with manual brakes, no power steering and a three-in-the-tree trans with 6 inches of snow on the ground. By the way, I am only 55. God bless!
Sounds like good old fashioned work!
How many acres did you purchase?
We have about 6 acres, but we also have access to some additional land
I had to drop a new transmission last i saw you guys, had to do a new 4l60e. I wanted a 480 but didn't have funds to do all that. Did you upgrade the brakes on the Z71? It's time for me to get brakes.
I did not upgrade them but I think it’s a good idea. I probably will next time I replace them
@trove1312 i feel the same, i feel like id have better brake control with such a packed out rig.
Next run you guys do let me know, id love to join yall :)
Were you on named trails? I did the Ozarks a couple years ago in a gladiator but I'm heading up in a few months to wheel again in a full size and I'm looking for trails that won't be too tight.
Not really, at least not that I know of. There aren't many "named" trails in the Ozarks. It's a big mixture of various forest service roads in varying conditions.
You idea is good but you should of used a couple of unions .i Use a piece of the suction hose between the pump and tank .
i threw something similar together with bajo fitting for the october 5th fires in north dakota 1 1/2in hose and those nozzles work great pump at full speed i could throw water 30ft for 5 minutes helped save a buddys barn
Yep it sprays impressively far in my opinion!
I run one of those IBC totes for an off grid cabin. I've had it happen twice now so fair warning: That bottom valve likes to crack without much warning. They're not built especially well. It really is awful because it's our only source of water atm. Riding and vibration I would recommend an upgraded one maybe even metal. There are two sizes, course and fine thread. So just be aware. Otherwise: Cool project!
Thanks, good info to know!
Just a couple of things to consider. Make yourself an adjustable float to keep your suction strainer off of the bottom of the pond so it doesn't clog up and ruin your pump. Be careful driving with your tank half full (empty or completely full is better) because without baffles, you run the risk of your tank or your tank and truck flipping over when the water sloshes around. Don't "dead head" your pump (run it with the nozzle shut off) too long because it is really bad for the pump vanes. I used to be a firefighter, and I learned a lot of this stuff from the older "pros" in the company. Have fun with your new toy and God bless!
Thanks! I used a log to keep the strainer off the bottom to help keep sediment out.
@@RuffTymesBob it should be fine with this style of pump these little trash pumps bypass when shut off they keep pressure in the hose but it won't hurt them like it would a gear pump or the higher quality pto pumps on firetrucks
Evaporust is a great product! You wouldn’t even have had to take the pump apart.
I might get some, knowing how well I maintain things I’ll probably need it
If you dead head the pump for too long , it will super heat the water and damage the pump . I like the fire truck. I know the gang will enjoy it .
Yep, we’ll be using it a lot next summer
Nice video. Great adventure with your family. How many miles do you have on the suburban?
We're at around 250,000
@@trove1312 Thanks. Trying to decide between a Toyota Sequoia and aGMT800 Tahoe. Most I see for sale are between 150-200k. Never had a GM product so I’m a bit leery.
@@shinhochulp I don't know Toyotas very well but I do know those first gen sequoias are supposed to be reliable. The biggest thing you frequently see on a gmt800 is the transmission going out around 200,000. It's not always the case but it is pretty common especially if it hasn't been cared for.
@@trove1312 Thanks for the heads up. The 1st gen Sequoia’s are pretty reliable I think. What I like about the Tahoe is I can walk into any parts store in anywhere USA and pick up almost every part I’d need. Sequoia’s parts are hit and miss. And I think even transmission rebuilds would be cheaper(?) than Toyota’s. Anyway, thanks for the input. I’m keeping and eye out for a clean, well-kept one.
Yep, they are everywhere and parts are easy to find. Also every mechanic knows how to work on them if you do need help on something
What was the outcome?
It did end up passing, blocking the casino license. The casino is now suing the state over it. In the future, counties will be able to have a say in whether a casino comes to their county or not.
I like this thing, but buying the heated one isn’t worth it. I’ve had 2 and the heaters broke on both in less than 6 months and when they did work it took 45 minutes to heat up
I would agree, there really no point to the heater. most people don’t have that much electricity to burn and they also don’t want to leave their vehicle idling for the length of time to heat it.
@@trove1312 Yeah it's impractical even when it works, it'd be nice if they came out with an upgraded model with 2 gallons of water tank so 2 people could take showers without having to heat water twice, or even better, a gas integrated heater
I don’t know how you was able to set up camp there both times Brody and I stopped I couldn’t even get a video made without somebody coming up to check out the view. 😂😂😂
We didn’t see a single person this time surprisingly
If you wanna hear God laugh, tell him YOUR plans! God bless!
Do they make a lower control arms?
Not for these
Brother id convert the ol girl to electric fans. We did pur 05 an i got ta tell ya its been a heck of a game changer. Plus i took the trans cooler an moved it from between the rad an ac condenser. Way better cooling.
My trans cooler is already in front of the condenser. I don’t plan on converting to electric. I know some people like it but for what I do I prefer the fan clutch.
Also use screen for like screen doors behind the grill. Helps keep all kinds of stuff out. An keep her breathing real nice
I came here to say that, lol. Last clutch fan I had I ditched and went electric. Doesn't bog the motor down anymore either.
We may never know what a delay keeps us out of. I heard about a person who missed a flight because they had a flat. The plane crashed and no survivors.
This is true!
thats why i carry the bibs ill walk that bitch to see the depth
We did walk it, but we went head and drove it as well as it wasn’t quite too deep for us
Thank you for the pancake recipe, im going to make them this morning. 😊😊
Hope you enjoy it!
That looked like a lot of fun. We were camped right north of you with the white Taco and red EZ-up. Caught a couple glimpses of us in the background. And I think you were watching us goofballs reposition the truck with the 270 awning out one afternoon. If you happen to do this next year, I will definitely try to come over and say hi. Love the content.
Sounds good!
I have an 01 suburban with a supreme 3"/2" lift level kit on it. When i bought it the previous owner had yukon denali 20" wheels on it with falken wildpeak at3s. I switched it over to mickey thompson baja boss ats about a year or so ago now. I love the mickeys but i do want to find a set of 17" wheels for it so i can get a 285/70 tire on it and give myself some room to deflate and widen my footprint more. Right now im running a stock roof rack with 4 factory crossbars to hold my rooftoo ten. I dont like the fact that im not able to use all the space from b pilar fwd as the roof rack doesnt extend that far forward. What roof racks are u guys running? Also, are you running HD tie rods? I saw some from rough country that im interested in
We are running Baseline Overland roof racks and Kryptonite tie rods
Nice suburban, I have an 03 white Z71 as well. You guys are an inspiration and I am getting it ready to do some trailing. What is your suspension and tire setup if you don't mind me asking? Do you just have a level kit and some nice good size tires? Looks good.
That's a good Chevy
Yeah buddy!
I'm still so disappointed I didn't get to make Rendezvous this year. After the tornado here in Rogers, then my daughter almost dying in June and having to spend a few weeks in the hospital, and everything else with my health, we are still just wiped out. Glad you guys had a great time!
Man, that sounds like a rough year!
@trove1312 yessir, it definitely has been. Maybe I'll get ahead enough finally that I can finish my sliding kitchen/sleep platform. That was another project that this year stole from me 😂
Thanks for clearing that trail! We went the same route you did late Thursday afternoon of the Rendezvous, and then ran it in reverse as a night ride late Friday night. I drive a 1995 Chevy Tahoe 2 door diesel, so not nearly as long as your rig, but still fun to have a full size on the trails.
Nice, I’ve seen your rig around! love the old two doors
Looked like a blast. We met Bub a few months ago. Very nice fella.
Indeed!
Man that was a fun day, thanks for letting me tag along! Great to meet you and the family!
Thanks for coming! I enjoyed seeing the Tacoma on the trail
Great times! All the old rigs sound like Tyrannosaurus Rex’s driving through the woods lol!
Yep! They each have their own unique squeaks that come from years of use
Nice video. Do you have a build overview video?
Yes I do somewhere back there. Probably need to do a new one at this point 😂
How much lift do you have on your burb and are those 33s tires?
Yes 33’s. I’m running about 2-2.5 off of leveling keys on the front and about 1.5 on the back via h2 hummer springs.
@trove1312 Ok thanks I realy preciate it buddy! I've got a 89 GMC Ext cab long bed K3500 single wheel not dualy pickup. Your Surburban looks to be bout the same length and I'm fixing to start on it to be able to get out there and enjoy outdoors. Mines got a factory 454 and factory 4 speed. I used to think it mite be to heavy til I seen a Excursion, I think that's what it's called, Fords extra longer than a Sunurban off roading with a bunch of jeeps yotas dodges etc and they was having to realy get rough with their vehicles it was 20 something in all and all of a sudden here come this big Excursion up through there and hw just purred and I never seen him spin a tire and then they got to a big mud hole and he just walked right through it and I was realy shocked cause how big and much heavier it is. But with you Bless yalls heart yall need a bus to carry your family and a great family too good job! So I was just wondering cause I want to put 33s on mine and I'm not jacking it up way high but I will have to go like you 2.5 or 3 and I'm good with that. Thinks for responding and helping me out!
Why are you driving so slowly and stopping before some obstacle like rocks? It produces high pressure on all parts of the truck. Why not step back a bit and tackle the obstacle a bit quicker?
Because that’s how you break things. Yes momentum may get you up some but you only need to use as little as possible otherwise you’re going to break a lot more stuff.
As slow as possible but as fast as necessary. With a 7000lb truck momentum breaks things. I have a video of just that from last year in Kentucky where it was muddy and slick but momentum was necessary to make the obstacle.
@@overlandtowater yeah, exactly what I meant
Since we live in Arkansas too, we appreciate your honesty and your stand for the truth! We have to vote and pray!
Thanks!
Do you use four low or four high?
Mostly 4lo. When we’re off-roading I usually either need 4 lo or just leave it in 2wd.
It maybe time for the lockers you have been talking about. Happy trails.
Yep, I'll have to do a solid front axle swap before I can do a front locker. It's on the agenda though!
It was a great time cant wait to do it again... well except for the drive shaft thing. Again Thanks SOOOOOO much for the driveshaft and the time spent to get it to me.
Glad I happened to have one sitting around!
Don't forget to thank his brother who brought it to you cause wrong know how he is he will get his feelings hurt and pooch his lop out and pout for a long time and you know we wouldn't want that to happen now would we? Bless his little heart he trys so hard and yall still won't invite little brother to go with yall! Yall ought to be ashamed of yalls self! Happy Trails!!!
That ledge seemed tight and tough to get over. Good stuff, glad yall got it figured out at camp and back to trail ready.
It was a little tricky!
How does it hold up with moisture after a night of camping? Do you find the inside is wet?
That largely depends on humidity levels, temperature, and the number of people inside it. Sometimes yes and sometimes no
