Perfect little FT8 setup at home and perfect for POTA/SOTA. CW filter is great. And the TX don't care if you have 1:3+ in swr, it still pumps out 7-8 watts. For that price it's a no-brainer.

Please use some fuses on the dc side. Murphy will otherwise come whack you for sure. Yes it is fundamental but not mentioned. Also, i would adjust under load if you have sensative equipment on the dc side. Ask me how i know ..... Murphy is a good friend 😂

If u dont need v/uhf the x6100 at half the price and with atu is a good option..l like mine v much

Can you post the values of all the capasitors of the antenna. I have swapped some before, but then used coax cable as capasitors. So you can cut them to whatever value you need. works very well!!

Lots of naysayers here, but this is my dream rig. Most of what I do involves HTs, and this is basically an oversized HT I can use with HF and WiresX (C4FM is my jam), and it can be mounted in my car and uncoupled to use with a base-station antenna at my house, or for SOTA/POTA and at field days. Not to mention, it’s probably going to be the 3rd or 4th best rated receiver right next to the FTDX10 and the FT-710 or whatever. What an exciting transceiver! 🤩

To the post!!! 😉 I was seriosuly hoping for a replacement for the TS2000 and the TS990 from Kenwood.....nope! What we saw was a weird looking plasticky commercial looking mobile radio with a front facing speaker and nothing else. Bit of a poor show from them considering the amount of time they've had to launch replacement radios which were long in production and in need of refreshing.

since this radio has Digital Voice modulation, that price may be included. which I don't use at all. if I were to buy HF Radio, I will buy RGO ONE from LZ2JR AG6JU

I think yaesu & icom are behind the curve on the portable markets needs. Both will look beautiful, but we buy a transceivers to talk to other people with transceivers. 5 or 10w simply doesn't cut it for the price point now. Fancy as they are id say i have 10:1 contacts with portable stations running a G90 compared to a ic-705 or a FT-817/8 good contacts too with good audio, not thin like the 817 or too wide like the 705. If you want to do true QRP these days you can get some brilliant credit card sized micro SDRs. My view is if you want to look good out portable get one of these or the IC-705 If you want to makes some contacts instead, get yourself a G90

Friendly Suggestion: Please seal all the connectors/ bolts edges on the inside of the box with silicon and/or hot glue, only keep the weep hole open. Ask me how I know! For good measure I silicone around the lid too in addition to the gasket. Use the 3M Silicon that you can roll off and not permanently seal the lid. 73 de ws1m

What antenna are your running for 2m FT8 Horizontal or Vertical? I would expect Horizontal? Most casual 2 m users only have a vertical for 2m fm/ and this results in poor ft8 and ssb activity around my parts.

My comment goes for most of today's radios. Too many menus and not enough knobs.

I am still waiting for Yaesu to release an IC9700 competitor.

May result in some nice pre-used kit coming to market.

ICOM lead - some don’t follow and some do it very late in the day. Yaesu could have made this an absolute killer option but decided not to. Look forward to seeing it. Thanks for the vid. Regards Mike

Looks good for a portable QRP radio but if it has high power drain on receive then it has failed me regardless of higher capacity battery

Looks nice, but for me, I'd rather a few more watts. 25 or 50. Xeigu G90 has 20 watts, something like that would be great Yaesu.

If the RX is based on similar design to FT-710, it will leave IC-705 standing. Hope it as 70MHz/4M,

Possibly more of a 10W FT897 replacement ie bolt on ATU and large battery.

6-6-48 duty cycle on FM means for each hour operating the expect you to be talking for 6 minutes, listening with an active receive for 6 minutes & the rig to be all quiet "squelched down" in standby receiving nothing for 48 mins (or proportionately..... ie don't expect 8 hours of TX time). If you simplistically expected zero power during standby & you were going to use this "all at once" in a contest then you could potentially expect 48 mins of TX (6 mins per hour x 8 hours) plus the same of active RX so my guess is you might get an hour and a half of heavy operation in a contest/SOTA/etc etc

Lots of whistles and bells that most of us will never use. So it will be over priced. What I really need is a modern version of a KW2000B.

Nice. However, the biggest issue is that D-Star has essentially been abandoned. In these parts, there are probably 10 fusion repeaters for every remaining d-star and those are quickly being outnumbered by dmr. Like betamax, the best technology does not always win.

Very exciting, but so many unanswered questions until we get the full specs. WiFi? Bluetooth? I agree that we need clarification on the dual receive, the standout feature when comparing to the 705.

Very nice - shame it is not an FT857 replacement as you mentioned. ( but with the portable bits as options to keep the FT817/817 users happy ). Missed opportunity ?
