Hi, in your opinion what type of surface (synthetic grass, non-slip carpet, etc.) is most similar to the surface found in competition. I'm not sure what surface to choose for my sled training. Thanks, bye
I've got my first Hyrox coming up in March, and I've been doing sled pulls mainly with arms and hips, feeding the rope between my legs. Curious to see what difference this makes, because i honestly had considered this to be one of the stations i felt most comfortable with already. I'm not an athlete by any means - I think having extra bodyweight may make it easier to pull the way i do!
I’d recommend loading it up heavier than race weight if you’re moving it well with your arms. The training in the gym doesn’t always translate and this can sneak up on people! Smash that race in March!
Now the mont chalenging thing it is not finish à hyrox race. It s to register in time ! New York hyrox sold out the same day !😢
Great video as always. I’ve been doing heavy band pulls that are attached to a pole in my garage. Sometimes I’ll attach a shorter rope to get the feel. Only caution is when you walk back with a heavy band, make sure you brace yourself walking it back in! lol Good eccentric work though.
That's an interesting way to get that eccentric work - but def need to have control!!

Thanks. Did my 1st HYROX in December and sled pull was sloooowww! I was confused about where the rope should go ...so thanks for sorting that one out. 👍 Not sure about gloves🤔. I didn't use them and wasn't aware of any hand slippage.
Glad it helped! Practice the rope management and hit it hard in training. You would definitely notice hand slippage so you should be good without gloves!

Great run through 👌🏻 one thing I was wondering was regarding stepping on the line of your box. Are you penalised if your foot touches the white line or would you need to step over the line for it to be a fault? Just signed up for my first Hyrox so trying to pick up on some of the finer details of the rules. Thanks in advance.
Great question. You are allowed to stop on, but not over the line in front of you but you can not touch the line behind you. You will be penalized on the second offense.

How do you track effort/pace when using an air runner for workouts?
I use heart rate for my effort because you can't always count on the metrics. If I am familiar with the specific treadmill then I will go on distance and just take it with a grain of salt. The watts is really the most accurate way to measure your effort from machine to machine but it's hard to really know what that means.

I'm genuinely curious, when you mentioned rest days, do you nothing physical at all? Or are you still a little active, for example a walk or yoga or 30 mins light cardio? Or is it a true zero day for you?
I wouldn't say I purposefully do nothing at all. I will go for walks, but more out of utility-to exercise the dog or to get outside. But, I typically won't do anything that would require me to change into our out-of-workout clothes.

LMAO at Zone 2 Burpees! But sure just slow down and breathe through them. Awesome video, thank you. Last week due to being snowed in and a long run outside was n/a, I couldn't face a LR on treadmill. So, just cut it up into ez running and low effort stations and got the overall LR volume in feeling great about it.
Exactly! Just slow the burpees down! Perfect use case for that kind of workout with the nasty weather.

Why this vs hands by the shoulders (traditional?) Style
Good question! The tradtional way is probably the best way to move the sled the fastest but it is also a bit more costly. The position and upper body bracing restricts blood flow. Plus it pushes your hips and feet a bit further back from the sled so it makes it a bit tougher for your shoes to grip the carpet.

@@RichRyan I got one and use it almost every session, very helpful. I also think I have genetically low HR, good to know intensity is correct. Will it be further training plans based on HR? Your training lately seems to be very successful thanks HR focus. Well done!
@@andreasgustafsson9093 You're in a good spot then! I'm still working out the best way to create a plan around HR - but I am feeling more confident in the workout structure that can get the desired response. So I am going to keep it rolling!

Why do they not have a sled push and the other weights based on power to weight ratio ?
It would be logistically quite unfeasible and the running part already somewhat penalizes being heavier.
I agree - they barely want to change the weights as is during an event.
Is the push-up supposed to look like that ?

Very helpful! Love the mindset about staying with the sled all the way through. Would love to see a similar vid for the sled pull, burpees, and wall balls too. Those are the other ones I struggle the most with.

Hey Rich, great video. I am doing my first HYROX Auckland Feb 1 and have been training well but live in a small town and have no access to a sled. I don't have many options but to address a sled for the first time on race day. I am dreading it a little as I am 150lb and 62 :)... I'm sure it will move but I am having to sim using Deadlifts and a self-propelled treadmill for the push and Hack Squats/Cable Pull plus the treadmill for the Pull. Appreciate any tips. Cheers :)
Have a blast in Auckland. Seems like an awesome event. The stationary bike is also a good tool to replicate the leg feeling.

Hi Rich. I did last year‘s 12 week program for a hyrox last year and did pretty well my first time around. Looking to do the updated one this coming year.
