Exploring DC’s Secret Military Hospital: Abandoned Underground
In this episode, I'm exploring a top secret abandoned military hospital hidden underground in Washington DC, as part of a much larger medical complex stuffed within the Grand American Capitol. Within the tunnels of this hidden hospital lies millions of dollars worth of WW2 medical equipment left to rot, and to my great surprise most of the old technology still powered on. The hospital complex been abandoned for over a decade, but has remained extremely well hidden from the public ever since.

They will remove the wings for a few different reasons one wings are very valuable and usually get damaged in the airplane the most so they have a lot of potential buyers looking for new wings to it is standard, if you were not going to bolt down your airplane to the ground when you park it to remove the wings so when I say windstorm, the airplane does not take off and get carried away by the wind

The reason they take the wings off is because many of these were not flown in. They were trucked in on a flatbed truck. I used to see them on the back of the truck on rt.13 years ago.

Wow! Your video doesn't disappoint! As usual, here are my thoughts: 0:30 - No way! 0:50 - This is so cool! 1:50 - This is IV access. Totally sterile, and totally fine to touch. That hollow syringe that is clear with the blue top is for administration of certain medications, such as ampules of morphine. 4:19 - These are standard oxygen bottles. These are often found under hospital beds and on the backs of wheelchairs. I carried one of these tanks, specifically a, "Jumbo D", in my medical bag when I was a paramedic. The E tanks are the most common ones in hospital settings. 5:03 - The blue monitor is more modern. These measure blood pressure, pulse, and blood oxygen. The blue one appears to have a temperature probe. Don't worry, if the probe is blue, it goes in the patient's mouth, not their butt. They are making an alarm noise because their internal battery is shot. 7:00 - Standard medical equipment such as an ENT speculum and retinoscope. 8:50 - This looks like a movie set! 11:03 - This is a more modern portable machine for hospital-based patient monitoring. It includes the pulse-ox, blood pressure, etc. 13:00 - I was bummed when you didn't try pressing the elevator button and seeing if one actually arrived at the floor. 15:02 - The silicone BVMs are my personal favorite, though they are far more expensive than the standard vinyl ones. 15:42 - This is a OB/GYN setup. Trust me, I would know. 16:04 - Yeah, don't go there. This is where women get their internal exams. 17:40 - Of course it's not working, silly. The fuse is sitting on the top of the switch box! lol 18:38 - The hospital had on-site uniform laundry facilities. White coats for doctors, blue scrubs for nursing and surgical teams. 19:50 - You found the sterile processing room. This is where all the medical equipment gets cleaned and such spouts are needed to connect hoses. 20:00 - These are small compared to the phone booth size autoclaves that exist in most modern medical facilities. The smaller ones are generally used for hand-size instruments, whereas the larger ones are usually used for specialized surgical equipment such as a finochietto rib spreader, for example. 21:55 - Please don't get too close to that. What you are looking at has the potential to not only kill you, but make it hurt while you are dying. Look up, "arc flash", and you'll have an idea of why these things are dangerous.

I was really looking forward to your comment based off your prior experience in medical fields. You did not disappoint, thanks for taking the time to explain everything. I’m going to go back and quite literally give myself a history lesson 😂 I did realize while editing how many switches I could have tried to turn on, oh well, there’s always next time. I was surprised at the lack of standard procedure/surgical rooms, this is a spot I can’t post lots of info on but it has a rich medical history, hence my surprise. I’m also surprised to see you thought the sterilizing room was smaller than usual 😂 lastly I did try the buttons in the elevator again off camera and they unfortunately did not work. Thanks again for the comment I really appreciate your insight!!

Hooooollllllllyyyyyy crap! This is insane; no vandalism but lots of decay...loved your jam session, you had me rolling!😂😅 Those first monitors were definitely BP& heart monitors; systolic and diastolic refers to the 2 BP numbers, like 90/120. That one that wouldn't work was the ear thermometer (trust me, sooo much better than more primitive thermometers; a glass tube filled with a toxic element that gets shoved in places glass and poison shouldn't go 😮😢). I'm glad your friend got a physical, but I'd be concerned about his flatlining vitals check. Almost thought x-ray rocking chair would win it, but I for one welcome our wheelchair of the episode. 🎉 So cool and freaky how the power still works; I'd say (especially seeing the red chairs) this was "new" in the late 60s, early 70s. Seems like I hear ventilation running too. The elevator...🎶 ring my beeee-eeee-eeell, ring my bell!🎶 Those x-ray machines were classic; as were the slides...that one with the screws looked pelvic, with titanium hip replacements. Then there's the exam table with (I'm seriously so sorry ladies) the stirrups, and that cool green chair. You passed a neat looking water fountain before finding the supply closet. I see you were met by several big fans here...did you sign autographs? 😉 That autoclave room...ohhhh my! You are essentially correct about their function; they are often used by Sterile Processing to clean surgical and exam tools, or equipment, or bedding, gowns, etc for reuse. Man, this one was phenomenal, great work and excellent commentary! Glad this one won the vote, thanks so much for sharing! I'll definitely be looking forward to the next adventure; be safe and have fun, and happy almost Thanksgiving to you and yours! 👍🔥😁

Back then, I didn't know the history or that there were so many airplanes on the site. The images in your video look much as I remember it. Thank you for this update. By the way, the airport is actually located just outside of Camden-Wyoming, Delaware in Kent County...not New Castle County. I been in such institution living but another country in north Europe you wouldn't believe what I have seen happening. I was hit, abused, put in cold showers, tied to a bed at my ankles and wrists just because I was crying or sad because I am autistic

Hi Luke: I was excited to see a new video from you today. I hope you've had a good week. This was a fascinating building. First, do you ever have a "runner-up chair of the episode"? Or a "Top 5 Chair List"? I have to say you made me nervous again climbing up the ladders and getting on the rooftops. (I guess I was that way when I was younger too.) I do want to comment about something you found: You said you thought it was a copy machine. Actually it was called a mimeograph machine. I know as it was used in the 1970s or I should say I used it in the 1970s while I was in High School. I worked on the school newspaper and helped type it up and we'd have to type the paper onto sheets that were like tissue paper on one side and ink on the other side. Then when we were done typing, we'd put the sheets on the mimeograph machine to make copies. Yes, I grew up without computers and cell phones. 😲 I really enjoy learning about history, especially the time period in which these buildings were constructed. Have you seen the website in which the history of this place is being recorded? (fernaldstateschool.com/) Also, I read the City of Waltham paid "$3.7 million in 2014 to buy the land" and they want "to use it for open space recreation and historic preservation. A large, “ambitious” project was approved in 2022 - complete with an electric train, mini golf, open green space, tennis and pickleball courts, a massive athletic complex, eight parking lots, an amphitheater, and a universal playground for children with disabilities." (www.boston.com/news/local-news/2024/04/16/walthams-amusement-park-plan-on-fernald-school-land-draws-criticism-and-praise/) Thanks again for another good video!! Stay safe!! Sincerely, Bruce
