Old Drag Car RETURNS! My 1969 Dart Swinger Takes on a HEMI Swapped 1970 Challenger
Kicking off the first race of a new West Coast RUclips Street Car Challenge against a beautiful 1970 Dodge Challenger with a 5.7 Hemi and TR6060 swap. The Dart hasn’t seen the track in at LEAST a decade! Just a quick oil change, and I was off to the track!

My ‘77 Dodge Ramcharger “War Wagon” Gets a New Suspension
Просмотров 365Месяц назад
Just received the Ramcharger back from the good folks at Wood’s Offroad in San Marcos, CA. They completely rebuilt my 3/4 ton axles and performed the swap with the new 4” Skyjacker lift kit. This is phase 1 of their work. Phase 2 will center around the transfer case. In this video I also announce the power plant for this beast as well as the timeline.
Maaco VS Mexico: The Hunt for AFFORDABLE Paint & Body Work - Part 1
Просмотров 441Месяц назад
Kicking off this new series, I drive my 1968 Dodge Dart GT Convertible down to Mexico for some MUCH needed paint and body work. After sitting in a junkyard for over 10 years, both quarter panels were completely rusted through along with holes scattered around the floor pan and trunk. The shop in Mexico will be repairing the body and painting the car back to its original red. They’ll also be red...

The DIY budget Mopar 426 is getting retrofitted with a bunch of top end goodies in this video. It’s been a long time coming but, the day is finally here. I’ll release my spending report after I post the dedicated rocker arm video later this week. Even with the lower than expected compression, I’m still hoping this beast will be in the high 400 hp range. What do you think? #mopar #automotive #do...

I’ve had this 1977 Dodge Ramcharger for a few months now but, it’s finally time to kickoff the build. This one will be moving FAST with a COMPLETE build wrapping up well before the end of 2024. The goal - a badass daily driver that can hold its own on the trails, tow the race car, and fit in at a car show.

Residual Pressure Valve Removal - Rear Disc Brake Dragging Fix
Great job! The torque is very impressive. I remember driving those 318s back in the day, and you’re doing a great build.
Thank you! This 318 performed a lot better than I had expected given such a low buck build. Makes for a great cruiser and a fairly competitive racer among other street cars.
Did you sell your 409 block and parts? I will buy it if you want to sell it to finish up one of your projects.
I built it out to a 426 cu-in. Currently installing it into my ‘77 Ramcharger
why do you think your music is required ?
Thanks big help
Not sure how active you are on here, but I have a question about your spring perch placement. You said 43in center of perch to center of perch, which I fully understand. What I didn't hear you mention is placement on the axle. For an over dramatic example you could weld one perch right next to the brake backing plate and be way off on the other side even though it's still 43 inches. Could you elaborate please
Hi Nathan. I maintained equal spacing between the backing plate and perch on each side. Doing this maintained the factory center section offset of about 2”. It’s close to a mopar spec and has proven to be just fine over the past couple of years. No vibrations. I’ve got at least 60 passes with slicks and about 5k miles of normal driving with that axle. It’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it so far.
Peeeacahe. Midwest for sure
Just go EFI like the normal person.
A lot of people are actually replacing their expensive EFI systems in favor of carbs due to poor equipment quality.
OMG there are was a dart wagon ? New car to search
Nooo you turn with a a vacuum Gage first and then check....go watch how to properly turn a carb
Vacuum gauges help with the tuning process for sure but, are not completely necessary.
How is that fully build with that small pumper and equal length shortys and intake??
It’s an M1 intake with fender well headers. Not sure what you were looking at. 12.5:1 fully forged 493”
Oh my not good
I just swapped my oil and filter this weekend.
I LOVE THESE DARTS.. I LOVE MOPARS BUT IF U REALLY WANT TO GO FAST TRY TO GET A. LS MOTOR OR OLD SCHOOL CHEVY MOTOR IN THERE. LOOK AT STREET OUTLAWS THERE IS A GREAT DART WITH A CHEVY MOTOR IN THERE. THE GREAT 405 .ANY MOTOR THAT MAKES U A WINNER FOR LESS BUCKS IS THE WAY TO GO
I believe that guy eventually swapped an aluminum hemi into his Dart. LS platform is awesome, no doubt. With some worked over aluminum heads, I should be able to get this big block into the 600hp range.
Thought those were tuned watching the vacuum at certain rpm, and screwdriver. For anything race related, everyday driver has always been by ear hence the term “tuned”
Vacuum is another good indicator. Screw driver, listening to the RPM range, and reading plugs are all great methods. Timing light of course too but, you can work without one for a street car.
Ahh! The good ol' flat head and a glass of water tune
Champions... I've blown the seal out of a Champion RJ12YC coincidentally #7 cyl in my 440. After a pass around the block. It was hissin and missin with the wire moving around with the loose insulator. It did look like aluminum spray paint on the header tube. 150 passes later before I freshened it up the pistons looked good Try Motorcraft (Autolite) A22 the equivalent to J11Y. Bump the total timing to 38° or More!
Only if you want to kill the engine. Looks like possible detonation damage to me. Not knowing what actual compression it has and advising a specific total timing number is ridiculous. Actual racing Champion plugs are much better than standard but Autolight plugs are good too. A little work with a hole saw will make spark plugs accessible from the wheel wells. Hope you have a narrowed rear with the larger bolt pattern, My 68 GTS 383 Dart was a tire melting machine! Don't forget a leak down test, compression test is not definitive.
Man she won the race on 7 cylinders. What will she do on 8?
It was running 8, just not well
Always good for the valves and valve seats.
I was really worried they were going to be beat up but, I couldn’t see any signs of damage with my camera. I’m gona perform a compression test to see if the valve still seals properly.
Man that's hot rodding! 🔥
Ouch! I hope it didnt hurt anything!
Magically, there’s not even a scratch inside.
@@sorta_stockhoping that plug was dropped and the porcelain was on driveway and not in engine
Pretty sure it went through the engine. Took a look with my camera and there’s no damage. It must have fragmented and made its way out the exhaust valve.
Did I miss mention of incrementals? Or are we keeping that under wraps for the time being? 😉 In any case, this Dart is cool! Can't wait to see it on Slicks!
Each pass was indeed a full second faster 🫣. Excited to throw some slicks on it and she how she does.
OK, got a question. Never heard of the term cold weather block. In the small block world truck engines (318, 360) were supposed to be cast from hi nickel iron and designated with a dash 3 at the end of the engine size cast into the block. What about 400 truck engines? Truck engines as in motor homes & heavy trucks (1 ton jobs). Did they do the hi nickel thing on them also and if so what was the designation? Asking for someone who has little experience with big blocks - - - - -me.
The general consensus is that pre-1974 big blocks came with the higher nickel content. The nickel wasn’t looked at as a strengthening component. Instead, it was used to resist corrosion in the block. Just so happened to benefit the strength as well. Lots of people have tested the theory and determined negligible results between years with the exception of marine blocks and cold weather blocks.
@@sorta_stock But they didn't mark them in any way?
Stock Honda accord 2.0 runs faster than this. Bigger fuel injectors jack up the boost accord hits 8sec flat on 1/8.
I’ve got 3k into this dart… including buying the car. Even with this junkyard setup, I haven’t lost a single race to a Honda. Raced at least 10 so far.
After watching so many "drag racers" on RUclips I realized my sister tesla model y would smoke the majority of them.
A majority…probably. Raced a Model Y last year with my Junkyard built ‘68 Dart. Quick cars for sure. I’d put money down that my ‘69 Dart with better tires would take a W from one of those. Only racing with these tires as the series requires it.
When you reeled off your driveline spec then said "cooper cobra" ,i actually giggled.
Awesome race car man.
Nothing quite like an old muscle car with high compression and a nice loopy cam 🙌🏻
Nice runs Sorta Stock. Your Dart is awesome. You guys look like you had a great time. Have a good evening. 👍
I appreciate it Ed. We definitely had a blast. We’re going to the track again this upcoming Friday for round 2 👍🏻
Cool video series! I was wondering if you would be able to launch in 2nd, then go 3,4. Definitely have the torque as long as it doesn’t bog enough to die. Sweet car, buddy!
Thanks Joe! Haven’t thought about launching in 2nd. Visiting the track this Friday again. Gona give it a shot. Shooting to get this dart comparable to that beautiful fish of yours lol
@@sorta_stock that’d be awesome! Cope Racing transmissions will be open on Monday. You’re gonna have to get an automatic!
@JustMoparJoe 🤢. 727 vs 833 it is then lol
Nice! Muscle Motors used to, or still does, offer killer CNC porting on Mopar iron heads, about 2k back in the early 2000’s. Hopefully yours are?
Haven’t pulled them off to verify personally but, I was told they did a full port & polish on the heads and intake.
What track is that?
It’s actually Willow Springs. They shutdown their road course and use the straightaway for drag racing.
@@sorta_stock thanks, that sure was a long drive.
Oh yeah! That Big Block is a Monster. Doorthy went as much as 2.2 seconds slower on the hard tire. I can’t imagine how much ET you’re loosing in traction.
I’ll get to see the difference in tire this upcoming Friday 😬
This content is what I have always wanted to watch on RUclips. I love how you couldn’t really tell who was going to win, as well as how much faster Dorothy was than what we thought. GREAT videos guys.
Thanks you. Means a lot. Looking forward to cranking out some follow up videos as the series continues 🤙🏻
Did you upgrade from the 2nd gen ram you had?
I sure did. Sold the ‘99 back in January. My daily is now an ‘07 1500 Mega Cab (basically a 2500 with a 1500 badge)
@@sorta_stock Nice
It was an honor to line with that big block beast sir. Gotta do some work on my Challenger before round 2
Same here No Bolts! That Challenger is a beautiful car. Great job on the powertrain swap. Looks very clean and well thought out.
Great stuff man. Shared.
Not starting 1st try, not looking stupid…a U-Haul trailer at the drags, well you know…lol
lol got a lovely HOA that’s keeping me from getting my own trailer. Hopefully not for too much longer
Yeah well, your Dart has weight advantage over the Challenger. And in my opinion the Gen 3 Hemi is overrated!
The cars are currently within 100 lbs of each other. Definitely some weight to trim off the Dart though.
Sweet! Good job out there. That's one fast mopar

Good for you guys getting out having FUN ! I run a '69 B-Body Mopar full pop weight at 3,900 Lbs with me in it, el cheapo Hyd Flat Tappet Cam 440/Auto 3,500 stall through 4:10's and 28" Tall Tires.... runs great in traffic/cruising and actually gets really good fuel economy.... best at the track is 11.92 @ 114 mph. Questions: how come you guys run 4 speeds/sticks ? and do you have scattershields to protect your Toes ? or just 50+ year old aluminum Bell Housings ? because you might wanna see some Pics of my friends Car recently.... NOT pretty ! Anyways.... no dis intended, THX for sharing ! just stay safe and in my view Autos/Convertor are waaay faster !
I honestly just picked the Dart up within the last month so, I’m just now getting to learn it. While I most-likely would’ve got with a 727 for a drag build, I’ve gotta say, this 4 speed is a blast to race. It’s got an aftermarket belhousing so, I’m hoping there’s some extra protection there. He’s running a new TR6060 6-spd
11.92 is a great time with those specs. 28” slicks I presume?
@@sorta_stock ET Street Drag Radial at that time, they hook very well and good for 1.7's 60 Ft ! It's still clock real low12 teens 's easily on Street Tires., albeit, can't get the launch(1.80's 60ft) critical to breaking into the 11's unless I use the ET streets. Just a XE284H Cam and honest 10:1 with Ported Stealth Heads which Dyno'd at 530HP and 540 Ft/Lbs.... very nice street manners/characteristics, doesn't overheat even on hot days, runs really well with the great Track E.T.'s ..... which to be honest here, the 'trick' is shifting 5,500 rpm and letting the Torque move the heavy Car ! Again, Thx for sharing yours !
@@dirtlump just picked up some ET Street Rs for a set of steelie wheels set aside for the dart. Hoping to see comparable times to your setup 👍🏻
@@sorta_stock Don't be surprised if it gets traction and then BOGS as a result ? That.... or you start finding the next weakest link parts-wise breaking stuff attempting Clutch Dumps at higher rpms trying to overcome that Bog ? NOT trying to be a harbinger of Bad News.... just say'in.... I spent a long time attempting to Drag Race with 833's behind both small and BB's decades ago.... broke damn near everything at least twice inclusive of sliding clutches to get outa the hole ! They are FUN to drive on the street... NO question ! But NOTHING beats the Torque Multiplication of an Auto/Stall setup in a budget Brackets/Drag Car..... unless you're spending $10+K "libertizing' that 833 it'll always be slower at the strip ! That 'Dead Dodge Garage' will figure it out eventually as well. NO OFFENSE...., Great Car and Thx for sharing !
Love the Dart!!! 🚦🔥🏁
Awesome video man! I don't know how we're going to catch you!!!
Man! That thing is a monster!
Paid 600 25 years for full black leather interior with red pipeing on 78 MGB they did door panels and dash top. Beautiful work who ever had that car now loves it.
I lived in HB for 20 years. If you want to take it to Mex from something they do nice interior work in a day, make plans with a shop get there by 6am so they can get it done. There body work is good at some places. But you should do the epoxy primer and paint yourself.Good luck
Ok duct tape drags got it I don’t think you are going to need duct tape or zip ties on that baby
That’s a clean looking coupe looks very clean from the pic what kind of racing you doing drag or road course made me wonder and a v10
Building this one for the road course, specifically. The v10 was a deal too good to pass up. I also fell in love with the raw power at such a low RPM with my old SRT10 Ram.
Your doing a great job and I’m sure it will make a ton of room prob make headers easy to put on looking forward to see go down the track road or which ever
Thanks Jeff! Even with all the room, there’s still a bunch of magic needed to get the exhaust to fit.
@@sorta_stock you look pretty talented with cars so I’m sure you will make it happen
