Thabo and the Unimog
Австралия
Добавлен 10 дек 2018
I got retrenched from my job and instead of using the money to live frugally, I blew it all on a Unimog offroad vehicle that I will turn into a Global expedition vehicle. This is about life, a truck and adventure.

After sitting for some months, we broke a bit. Luckily with the help of some friends, we got fixed.

We thought we'll do a quick drive in our Unimogs, unfortunately, it went a little pear-shaped.
Maybe, maybe not?

This is a very good way of putting a tiny house on a truck.

Exiting or exciting?
go to your nearest casino. you will either win big cause your so damn lucky..... or lose big cause you just used up all your luck LOL
I have been enjoying your Unimog videos including how you forgot to switch on your 4x4. - The question I have for you is does your Unimog have the Working group transmission (Donkey key) and if so, do you think it is mandatory to have? - How often is that Donkey key used on sand in Australia?
no working group, just standard gearbox.
The gear box oil you used is excellent for the duty and load of your gearbox but if the gears grind post oil change you need to add a friction modifier to help the synchronizers dotheir job. The factory oil in theGB was SAE 30. Castrol LSD diff oil would also work fine.

Be careful of galvanic corrosion when using steel and aluminium together. Make sure you separate them with a barrier.
I have plastic washers I'm putting between them.
Awesome Project Thabo! Keep the Videos coming please!
will do.
Beautiful trucks ❤
Important tip when doing diffs and portals. Always undo filler point before removing drain plug. That way you dont get stuck with an empty unit if the fill plug wont move.
Worth noting that you have to bleed the brakes when replacing any portal seals so it's a good idea to prepare for both jobs :)
Thanks for the clear video. I'm learning. It's those little differences from a 4x4 that you don't know, you don't know!
The front caliper run off of two brake circuits. One is rear and front and an emergency brake circuit just for the front .
The air operated suction kits also appear to work well (if you have a compressor nearby).
Like a big truck with airbrakes?
Well explained video well done Matt an yourself
Thank you mate, really appreciate your vids... 💥🤘🙏
Not going to lie. Most of the recovery gear you are using is way under rated for a 7-8 ton truck.
Welcome back. Stay positive and be great for what you've got, as there's always someone doing it harder.
You just going to open with a 406 in the background and not mention it... Did i miss something...? Glad your feeling better!
Had that happen on mine. Carbon deposits made the flap not seal correctly.
Great to see you back infront of the camera mate. Extra points for rocking the Wallace & Gromit shirt as well
Good to see that you're out and about in the Unimog I'm still looking for one
HAYA THANX for the Info. So next Spares on Board. CHEEERS Silke❤Jo Duisburg,Germany
It’s a good idea to have spare gaskets and those flaps for the compressor as a spare. I still think an electric compressor plumbed in as a back up is a good idea.
Thats what we have . It is a good Idea👍 Looking forward 👊
Great to see that it's going again!
Now you know for the next time you're troubleshooting things: Always start with the supply/source, and work your way downstream from there. No point changing valves out if you haven't verified that the compressor is working properly first, and the same thing goes for fuel systems, electrical systems, etc.
Now you got a spare unloader and 4 way valve
Takes some doing! Any idea how a Pinzgauer would compare?
stupid music
A woman with a clip board! Fuck, you’re in trouble now!!!🤦♂️🇦🇺🦘
YEAP Great Stuff. Mogs in their Area. Dreams. We will Follow. Silke❤Jo
YEAP Great Stuff. Nice VIDs. RnR Silke❤Jo

Great video
Memories of the Unimogs in Germany in the late 1960s. The farmers there loved them because they were able to take a plough for tilling the fields. One vehicle to substitute for a car + a truck + a tractor. I don't know if the newer models were still able to take the plough attachment.
I have been Off-roading for a number of years. I would argue that front lockers help more than rear lockers in 90% of situations.
Are you guys unfamiliar with momentum? Traction only cannot help you claimb, you need momentum.
Needs to change the name to "Unimog Hill"
Such a great video, thanks for posting it.
The best approach for winching double line pull saves winch and batt. As for starting ether (starting fluid).
What winch are you running?
Add a battery powered tyre inflator to your kit.
Mog with no sweat. I feel guilty just thinking about it.
Mogs always win
Wow those Mogs are just unstoppable. they make rally bad bogholes look easy.
the video is good, but I would like less music, it’s better to listen to the real sound of the engine
AWESOME TEAMWORK
I need a unimog. Mission for 2024.
From memory you can bash the back brakes off with a hammer in emergencies. You just bash the arm with a hammer and it releases provided you dont mind having no brakes at all. If you are planning on traveling with other MOGs id be carrying a 20m air hose and some fittings so you can piggyback truck together if needed.
