    Stay out of diff-lock unless you really, really need it. Same goes for 4x4 - the number of times the trucks are in 4x4 when it's unnecessary is uncanny. The reason is, know what the truck is capable of in each setting, advantages / disadvantages of all settings. Eg: 1) compare how effective your exhaust brake is in each setting and 2) compare how each setting alters your steering.
    Also, get used to using the engine brake. It is a tool that one has to remember is at one's disposal and remember to use.

    Just learning about mogs. Seems a little fast for those hill descents. Were you in the lowest gear? Do you have the working group?

    • @ThaboNelmeanshappiness
      @ThaboNelmeanshappiness  2 года назад +1

      Don't have working group, the lower gears are very slow, I was in the wrong gear but these trucks are amazing.

    White guy with an African name. Common in Southern Africa, Thabo is short for "Lethabo" meaning "Happiness" or "Joy". And then dude goes and buys a Mog! Beyond cool, subzero

    Maybe I don't need a deposit for a house Thabo, maybe I just need a unimog instead :-D

    These Unimog's would benefit greatly with an Allison auto conversion. Engine braking when off roading and lower engine RPM's when cruising on the highway generally better all round. First thing on my list of mods whe I get my Unimog thats for sure

    Just found this series and I'm quite enjoying it. Maybe balance the music volume with the dialogue. I have to turn it up to hear the dialogue and down when the music plays. Great stuff otherwise.

    instead of breaking like a moron all the time why not let the car go on idle at 1st gear?

    • @philhealey449
      @philhealey449 4 года назад +2

      He's having fun, it's his Unimog, he will gain experience . Yes you can trundle effortlessly over boulderfields using low gears, the hand throttle uphill and the exhaust brake downhill. But nothing broke and certainly not his grin.

    1) Will the Defence Export Control Office grant you permission to export this vehicle when you go on your world tour ?
    2) What's it like to be out in the nature and having all these people watching your performance and telling you where to drive ?

    • @ThaboNel
      @ThaboNel 4 года назад +1

      The truck is now classified as a private vehicle so it can go anywhere. Driving with everyone watching is a bit daunting but you have to concentrate so it's fine.

      @@ThaboNel So you have a DECO export certificate ?

    • @ThaboNel

      Ade Larsen I will do a carney where needed depending on the country

    • @adelarsen9776
      @adelarsen9776 4 года назад +2

      @@ThaboNel A Carnet de Passage is not an Export Certificate from the Defence Export Control Office. Usually you require a DECO permit to export a ex-military vehicle out of Australia. It matters not that it is now a civilian private vehicle. And by the way, you will only need a Carnet de Passage for re-entry to Australia. All of Europe and Russia, and central asia don't need a Carnet de Passage. In fact, most of the world does not need a CdP.
      I think you need to do more research my friend.

    • @MrMarwitzJ
      @MrMarwitzJ 3 года назад

      @@adelarsen9776 you certainly can export these ex defence vehicles without any hassles, plenty of them have made it to the US and I know of at least one perentie that shipped to South Africa last year. Also you do not require a Carnet to re-import an Australian registered vehicle. I have personally done it with a motorcycle. A Carnet is however often required when passing through 'choke' points around the world - for example India requires one and is difficult to bypass if travelling from SE Asia to the Middle East.
