Once a brush has wax on it you can't use it for another color or it just ruins your design becoming a muddy mess. And, you don't need to hold 10+ brushes hostage just waiting for the next time you need to use that specific color of wax on a piece of furniture or art.

this doesn't work. if you have suggestions please reply.. watched the vid. I have a bunch of empty bath and body works bulbs. Got the grapeseed , a few different essential oils, water. tried a few ratios and the mix doesn't evaporate through the wick. weeks later the oil/ water lever is the same.
@@mrda100 hmmmmmmm. I’m so sorry you’ve not achieved good results. I’ve used this process over and over with successful results. You’re using their wallflower base? You’re using a quality oil? That outlet is working? (After weeks you should see that the warming speeds up the rate of a liquid releasing….)
@@ReMadeWithLove yes. New wick and your recepie. What I did find to work well yesterday is 1/3 alcohol. 1/3 water and the rest the oils of my choice. this allows the essential oils to thin out and wick. The grapeseed oil just doesn't evaporate imho.
Can I use refined coconut oil, like MCT oil. Or will it not work as well as grape seed or almond oil?
Well...I've read some use fractionated coconut oil as a carrier with essential oils that absorb into their skin...BUT, I've also read that INHALING fractionated coconut oil is controversial, with some negative results. I think you should research using it as an inhaled carrier oil and decide where you stand. Here is the link I found some info at: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/282857#:~:text=Inhaling%20coconut%20oil%20has%20helped,should%20not%20inhale%20coconut%20oil.
thank you. this was exactly the inffo I needed with not alot of other talk in between. Just facts and straightforward. I wrote the steps down as you went and I am about to get started.
Thanks, Gwen! I hope you have fun and master this so you can have success with better stenciling!

I JUST threw out numerous Wallflower bottles except for 2 because I loved the floral print on them. I was concerned about wicked headaches that some scents were giving me, I learned. Thanks!!
Welcome!
Why not use water instead of a carrier oil? Essential oil are usually water based that is why you can use them by just putting a couple drops in the water pot of a diffuser.
From my understanding essential oils are an oil. To become a water-based essential oil (?) they have to change the chemistry and add chemicals to make it water soluble. When reusing a wallflower (or using this wallflower hack) I’m wanting to plug it into a wall outlet and have prolonged, consistent dispersal of the aroma. Since oil and water don’t mix unless emulsified, even if it is temporary, using water as the carrier would not ensure a continuous aroma. The essential oil would gather in one area and either disperse all at once or only after the water has evaporated, not giving you a continuous aroma.
Thank you just found this video. I'll take it a step further and add that pets are much more sensitive than their people to scents and some are even toxic. Cats are especially vulnerable to tea tree and lots of others, but there's no nos for dogs too. Anybody with indoor pets should do a search on essential oils and cats/dogs. I use sweet almond oil for a carrier because it's usually the cheapest and easily found at discount stores and won't burn even when exposed to direct flame.
Thanks for adding this info Tracy!
Weird how you answer people asking for information on which wicks to use by just suggesting ways to search for wisks. How about the exact type you are using in the video... are you mental or something?
Haha! I hope not!! I like to suggest searches for several reasons: first, because I think each of us should decide what they want their wicks made out of (cotton or PET), second, because I’m not endorsing any particular brand, and third, sometimes the links I’ve offered in the past don’t work anymore.
@@ReMadeWithLoveyou have so much grace dealing with some of these comments 🙄 I loved the video and your thoughtful responses, new sub!
@@HauntedHaven thank you. I think we are all just trying to figure out how to live the best life we can.
I have not had success in the scent after refill, I can’t smell it
Oh no! You can adjust the amount of scented oil higher, if you’d like. Also, these will be a gentler fragrance than the industrially produced commercial fragrances, but should still give your rooms a lovely scent. Question: after you open the bottle of the essential oils how easy is it to smell?
You Gotta be kidding me not a great thing to do cause fires wallflowers have been noted to catch on fire
Like any electrical item there is a risk of fire associated with using it. Thank you for reminding us to consider the safety of using it.

I just dumped so fragrance oil in mine. Is that ok?
Can you explain more what you did?
I use Dipropylene Glycol as the carrier and it works Great! It evaporates unlike therapeutic carrier oils.
Thanks for letting us know, Roy. I appreciate hearing from those who make their own wallflower refills. I'm sure you use in small quantities, but I believe others looking should do their research into this synthetic chemical before using it. Europe has banned liquid synthetic propylene's, although the US considers it to be safe, and about 1/2 of the cosmetics in the US have small amounts of Dypropolene Glycol in them. There are some reported side effects (mild) that users should know about.
@@ReMadeWithLove I totally understand, however, that is the carrier the wallflower manufacturer uses. And we’ve used them for many years now with no health issues.
@@roybermea7684 Good to know!
@roybermea7684 do you use the dipropylene only, or along with a carrier oil?
@@carrie621 Only dipropylene glycol and the essential oils. Carrier oils do not evaporate. Perfume manufacturers and the manufacturer of wallflowers use dipropylene glycol as the carrier as well.
I found two never been used bulbs from 10 years ago. I have no use for them. How do you discard them if they have oil in them but are 10 years old? Does anyone know? Thanks.
Try returning them to the Bath & Body store! Their policy is to accept all return regardless. You probably won’t receive the $$ but they should have a responsible company disposal policy.
@@ReMadeWithLove Thanks!
Honestly I don’t think the nail is needed. It’s a BBW thing they do to keep people from trying to remove the wick and do exactly what your video is explaining. Only reason I say that is all the other oil refills I’ve bought that aren’t BBW don’t have the nail.
Yes - I felt the same. Once you have the wick in you can maneuver it to be longer or shorter, but the wick won’t move on its own.
Probably true!
Hi! After watching so many videos on how to refill these wallflowers, I just had to come back to yours and tell you how much I appreciate the effort you put into actually doing research into safety. Plus, your step by step video is great. I couldn’t believe some of the videos that are out there. I think I saw one was using a form of cooking oil in hers 😮. Anyway, thanks again for your video. I hope I have good luck with mine. 🙂
Well thank you so much! I so appreciate your comments. When I thought about this subject I was moved to complete a video on this because it is a subject near to my heart. As a decorative artist most of my decor refinishing is completed with low or no-VOC products. I also love my home smelling delicious and welcoming but am concerned by the chemicals present in these products, so I chose to share what I learned and what I use. Thanks again!
I made these with coconut oil (internet says a good carrier oil) and mine don’t work. They don’t release any smell out of them. Did I do something wrong?
Did you rinse the old bottle? Use new wicks? Which essential oils did you use? There is a point when the original wallflowers stop working (something in the heating element??), but if you are using the quality items mentioned, it should work - unless your wallflower base has stopped working.😔 I’ve read that fractionated coconut oil has been used with essential oils safely, but only in a non-heated (non-wallflower) venue.
Can I use reed diffuser oil?
Hi @tavery1981, I've done some research on reed diffuser oils and here is what I've found: Reed oils are thinned (as much as 3 times) due to the need to be wicked up by the reed which is very porous and uses a cold diffusing method. Plug in oils need to be thicker, and use a different carrier oil. (reeddiffusers.org) Some sites state that some reed diffuser oils also include alcohol which in a heated plus-in type would rapidly evaporate the fragrance and possibly pose some risk to the device as well as a potential lower flashpoint.
Have you etched multiple cups in one sitting with this? I want to etch mason jars for a party favor but seems like a lot of work to etch, wait 15 min, wash it all off, and then etch the next one.
You can make multiples of the same stencil and do them at the same time cutting down on wait time. Then wash all and reuse for the next batch.
@ReMadeWithLove have you tried reusing the stencil without washing them out or would the cream be dried out on the stencil
@@xxsecretdreamerzxx I’ve washed them out. The cream I use doesn’t dry out so I’m not concerned about clogging the screen, but I didn’t want to accidentally pull off cream and potentially transfer it to my next item to be etched when I’m positioning it on that new item. As I’m thinking about this I think I will try reusing multiple times without washing and see what happens. I think if I allow a good amount of edge space on the stencil and am careful with the transition I could get a number of clean etches.
why not just reuse the wicks????
Great question: why not? You can, but sometimes the scents are not the same and actually compete with each other. If the wick is pretty 'clean', and the old scent is complimentary to the new, go for it!
I think the sound is messed up on this video.
Hey krankenheim13, thanks for the heads-up. It should work fine now!
Where do uger the cotton wick replacements?
For wicks that are made of PET (synthetic) you can try something like Essential Oil Wick Diffuser Replacement Stick 10 Wicks Sponges Refill (copy and put those words in your search engine) which will work. If you prefer cotton, try something like Binhai 30-Pack Car Humidifier Sticks Cotton Filter Refill Sticks Filter Replacement Wick (copy and place in search engine). I preferred cotton.

Jennifer...I'm so sorry this happened. I'm wondering if your wallflower plug-in units are too old. I have found that some of mine have stopped working. Google 'do wallflower units stop giving off smell?' and you'll find numerous complaints about the units not giving off the fragrance anymore. I hope you try again and have better results.

@@AxlAX Fabulous!!
I agree all this mixture are too thick and stay in bottle and white pen getting bronze even you give new.
Is it required to use carrier oils? what will happen if you use 100% essential oils that are scented?
Carrier oils help extend the life of essential oils and are a safe way to keep them from accidentally burning. I’ve heard of pure essential oils scorching. Also, do some research into the particular essential oil (see where I mention this in the video) you want to use to make sure a plug in - warming diffuser- is an oil that won’t irritate sensitive lungs or those with asthma. Safety is #1!
@@ReMadeWithLove thank you!

Hmmmmm. Keep searching for your tile by brand and size…OR YOU can create and sell a template for that size! 😉
What kind of paint are you usinge please. Wonderful tutuorial.
I’m using a gel art ink. It’s a thickened paint that easily presses through the mesh. You can also use ink/paint used for silkscreening. The brand I personally use is Amy Howard Gel Art Ink.
Beautiful!! Well done! Do you think with the same process that these would be heat resistant enough for coasters for the heat from coffee/tea even?
Oooooo. Good question! First, I’d find a tile large enough to handle a glass, cup, or mug. But yes, using HTV it should be able to act as a coaster. These are pretty thick and are kitchen and bath tiles so they can handle the heat.
And thank you!!
@@ReMadeWithLove Yes, I have about a dozen square tiles just waiting to be coasters! LOL I'll try one, and if you can bake them you could certainly put a hot coffee cup on one ah?
I’d love to see yours when it’s completed-
Did you cut the felt backing by hand or did you cut it on a cricut machine. I have the original cricut explore and was wondering if it cuts felt. I have never tried.
I have a Maker, but at the time of the video I wanted to see how easy it was to cut the felt by hand. It’s doable, but faster and (for me) an improvement on my cutting(!). According to sewwhatalicia.com: YES! You can cut felt with the Cricut Explore and the Cricut Maker. There are more options for cutting felt with your Maker but you can most definitely cut felt on most of your Cricut machines. The Cricut Maker is my go to felt cutting machine. Check out THESE felt bookmarks cut with the Cricut Maker. It’s worth a try! Also, there are different weights of felt and different content (acrylic, wool, etc.) that cuts differently. Happy creating!
Will the sticky side stay sticky once you wash the screen?
Yes, if you wash it immediately after using! Some paints may stick to the front surface, but if you wash immediately and gently it won't stick in the mesh. you may need a drop of the blue Dawn, but no more! By layering these it will become reusable.
Where do you get the refill wicks?
Try searching for the following: 1) if you prefer PET (synthetic) search in your browser “Essential Oil Wick Diffuser Replacement Stick 10 Wicks Sponges Refill” And, if you prefer cotton wicks search for something like “Binhai 30-Pack Car Humidifier Sticks Cotton Filter Refill Sticks Filter Replacement Wick. Those should lead you to sources for both and will fit in the wallflower unit. I don’t receive anything from these vendors - just wanted to pass along my info.
My wick would never go back in when I tried but I used the same wick
Huh. Do you mean you didn’t try a new wick but you tried to reuse the old one?
What about putting water in it with essential concentrate for vaporazing divices?, or putting in a base of baby oil and add some drops of the scent im telling you? Would it work?
Interesting ideas. Baby oil is usually not a carrier oil that is seen as being O.K. to inhale. Of course, this one video does not address using essential oils in vaporizing devices, only how you can reuse old devices.
vaporizers use vegitable glycerine and propelyne glycol
You made it super complicated
Oh, I'm sorry you feel that this was super complicated for you to understand.
I'm dying to see your attempt at making this video
Can't I just refill them with Walmart brand refills?
Hi there! If you chose to refill using another brand’s mixture that is up to you. This video is primarily for those wanting a non-commercial, perhaps healthier alternative.
Hi none of the stores in my area carry a therapeutic grade vanilla essential oil. Can you recommend an online source? Thanks
Hi Pamela, thanks for asking. I have local sources, so I have not purchased these, nor am I endorsing them, however did some research on safe therapeutic oil producer/distributors and found VIDAVINE to have certifications that would make me feel comfortable with them. Here is their link: therapeutic grade vanilla essential oil **IF ANYONE ELSE HAS RESEARCHED AND KNOW OF A SAFE PRODUCER?DISTRIBUTOR OF VANILLA THERAPEUTIC OIL PRODUCER, please leave a remark for Pamela. Thank you.
Very nice video. It has great details. Thank you 😊
Thank you, Bernadette!
Hello, please can you tell me from where we can buy the wicks replacement? And the link. I couldn't find it on Amazon. Thank you a lot.
Hi Mariane, for wicks that are made of PET (synthetic) you can try something like 'Essential Oil Wick Diffuser Replacement Stick 10 Wicks Sponges Refill' (copy and put those words in your search engine) which will work. If you prefer cotton, try something like 'Binhai 30-Pack Car Humidifier Sticks Cotton Filter Refill Sticks Filter Replacement Wick' (copy and place in search engine). I preferred cotton.
@@ReMadeWithLove thank you for your help. I found them 😀

What brand is your heat gun?
Hi Stephanie! There are so many, aren’t there? I use a Wagner Furno 500. It’s kind of a catch all. I have a few temperature settings as well as speed and a cooling fan. I’ve had fun using it for encaustic painting as well.
Great video! Any ideas why my BBW wallflower plug ins not as fragrant as glade plug ins.
Hi Tracy, that is a great question, and one I don't have a definitive answer to! I've tried a little research but have found nothing in writing that confirms why this is. So, I can only use conjecture: could it be because the additives in glade plug-ins help suspend/diffuse the scent? I mean, the chemicals used must serve their purpose, either to enhance the color or enhance the smell. If there is anyone out there reading this that could shed some light (with research) I'd really like Tracy to get her answer, so please help!
@@ReMadeWithLove yes please I want to know also, I love the wallflower events but they just don't spread like other brands
Inspiring! I have a patio set needing attention!
