Thanks! We are still trying to work out how we get into New York too, so stay posted!
wow how is traffic guys ?
It's pretty crazy in Jakarta, busy but didn't seem dangerous because quite slow. And actually through the whole country, when your off the main highways, even if it's busy it's never too fast and everyone looks out for you. We never felt unsafe there

I will have a trailer behind my bike, do you think I could make it through all those trails with a trailer?
Hi, wonder if you mind answering a couple of questions please. I'm in Australia and I am looking at a trailer as an option myself. Though I'm yet to actually do an overnight bike packing trip but am planning a 6000km trip within Australia in a couple of years. I was wondering what sort of trailer you have or are looking towards and why. Like a dual wheel or single. Any advice you might have for a beginner to bike trailers.
Hi! Yeah I think it would be possible with a trailer for sure. Just make sure it's a good quality one, that has secure connections, as a lot of the trails are quite bumpy riding
I met you both at the river outside Wolf Point Montana. Hope all is going well. I subbed to your channel. All the best in your travels! Cheers!
Hey man! Thanks! I subbed to your too but haven't had a chance to watch any vids yet, looking forward to seeing the meanest town in America! We're doing good, America is treating us well. Hope all's good with you and your travelling somewhere fun 🤙
@@weridebikesplaces I'm glad you're getting treated well! Keep on! I'm in Manitoba Canada now.
This looks like such a fun trip - i've been thinking/planning of making the ride out but on a longboard. What part of the year did yall make the trip?
It's a really fun ride! We did it in September, which was pretty warm. I think a month later would have been better, or earlier in the year during spring
All the best
Thank you 🙏
Thanks for coming to my birth country from a Vietnamese/canadian.I am going to do this one day myself.
It was our pleasure! You really should, such an awesome country to explore full of amazing people 👍
What a Beautiful place this is real life brother and sister enjoying their life safe journey
Possibly the most beautiful country in the world! Thank you 👍😊
It's the most fun adventure. But I wonder how you all know these country roads, they're amazing.
The best adventure! We followed a route that some other people had ridden before, which was very helpful. We also use an app called Komoot which can help to find some great roads to ride 👍
Hey my friend ! Thanks for sharing your tips ! I would like to plan a "bicycle trip" in Asia between now and december. - Do you recommend to rent or buy a bike ? And if yes any advice on what to chose ? - Are you using a GPS to follow your trip and do you have special map with bicycle road as well ? - Is it easy to cross the border with a bicycle ? Do you have to disassemble the bike ? - Did you had any problem/flat tire or issue with your bike ? Thanks a lot for your replies, that's so motivating !
Hi! No problem, happy to help! I would buy a bike, as you will probably be travelling very far on it, and renting for long distances/multiple countries can be hard. It's also nice to have your own bike, and they are quite cheap depending on where you buy them. If you fly into a city with a decathlon store, they have some great options. To navigate we use an app called Komoot. It's the best. Takes you on all the quietest and best roads for cycling. Just set it to bike touring mode 👍 We had plenty of flat tyres, so make sure you have spare tubes and you know how to fix them, once your good at it it only takes a couple minutes. Only a few other minor issues with the bikes, and there are bike stores in most towns of a decent size.
Oh, and yes it's super easy to cross borders with the bike, you just ride across. Not all borders, can be crossed by foreigners though, some of the small ones are locals only, so just check on google maps first
Hey man ! Congrats for your trip ! I have a question, I live in HK and would like to do a bicycle trip in Asia (thailand, laos, Vietnam or Malaysia). Do you rent your bicycle somewhere or did you buy on the country ? do you have any tips if I would like to do this type of trip ?
Hi! Cheers! We bring our bikes with us, as we've been riding all around the world. We have some other videos from all those countries too, as well as one that gives tips for riding there specially! As you live in HK youl be somewhat used to the heat, which is the main thing when riding there, so just stay hydrated and don't try push yourself too far.. Out of those countries, Thailand has been our favourite to ride. Let us know if you have any specific questions on where you decide to go!

Thanks guys. A great video which I have shared with family and friends. I start Hanoi - Bangkok, via HCMC in December. This video will give them some reassurances that I am not completely bonkers!
Ha thanks! That's great, you'll have an amazing time and it's super safe over there, just always be aware that traffic can come from any direction.. but the people are all so friendly, I can't wait to be back there. Enjoy!
I really enjoyed your video. Thank you.
So glad you enjoyed it 😁 thanks for watching 👍
How many km per day ? You said after several days you reached mae klong but from Svb airport in Bangkok it’s about 100km away ?
@@everythingexplored5233 we rode about 50km per day, and didn't take the most direct routes. There's so many small towns and places to see in Thailand it's nice to ride shorter days and spend time exploring all these places, and eating lots of food..
Why choose this route and not go down to Koh Samui? Curious as I’m going to do a similar route next week
@@brandonshaw2200 we find the islands on the west coast a bit nicer, There's so many small ones to visit, which are less touristy than the ones around ko Samui. In saying that, we've heard the ride down the east coast is great. You can't really go wrong in Thailand
Would you recommend it and do you have a gpx route I could follow? Leaving next week
@@brandonshaw2200 yeah I'd recommend it for sure! www.komoot.com/tour/1390340370?ref=aso
how long did it take?
About 6 weeks
Was there anywhere to wash/shower/get water at your campspots?
There was usually somewhere to get water, and sometimes somewhere to shower. Sometimes we'd just have to make do with a baby wipe shower.. a lot of campsites with facilities were closed due to flood damage, that will be open again now
Good stories...like Vietnam
Thanks for watching
Welcome @@weridebikesplaces
This is exactly what I want to ride. Nice to see Semarang, the city where my mother was born and I visited with her some years back. Hope to do this in 2026 or 27

Amazing! I cordialy invite you to take a look in this cycling tour video through Africa ruclips.net/video/qrsjiWEZhfM/видео.htmlsi=OpU6j5oBprFt8XVX
Wonderful video, curious what time of the year did you do it? And why oh why finish it with McDonald's hamburger 😅
Thanks! We rode it in September. I think October would have been better. Haha, it was a rainy day when we pulled into Busan and the golden arches just called to us 😂
Thanks for an informative and motivating clip. May have missed this info in the video, anyone knows how many days it took them to do the full route?
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it, we certainly enjoyed riding it. We did the route in about 12 days, which was pretty relaxed. You could definitely ride it quicker, but 12 days felt a good amount of time to allow us to enjoy exploring the towns and cities we came across
Awesome adventure! Which bicycles are you guys using?
Thanks! It really was an awesome place to ride and explore. I ride a Kona Sutra ltd and Laura rides a Surly bridge club. Both love our bikes
Thanks for sharing the route :) what month did you do the ride in and how long did it take?
Thanks for watching! We rode this section in January, and it took around a month. You could do it faster or slower depending on how much time you have, I'd prefer to do it slower to take more time to enjoy all the islands along the way
@@weridebikesplaces thanks! 1 month would be including the island trips I guess, how long was your trip from bangkok to phuket?
Bangkok to Phuket took us around 3 weeks, which was pretty relaxed
Thailand welcomes you. Cycling touring Thailand Makes you absorb and experience Thailand deeply. which some Thai people may have never even experienced It was truly an exciting and enviable trip.
Thank you 🙏 it was an amazing way to experience Thailand, one of our favourite countries
4:36 - the Stockman's Route. Was this along the Old Esk Road? We rode that route from Nanango to Blackbutt and it was a very memorable ride. Only about 50km but we began too late in the morning from Nanango. The first 20k were fine ten we came to the 'closed to vehicles' 'impassable road' signs. Pressing on the river crossing was OK, then some nice valley riding for a few kms. The final steep climb was "only 2km" but was some of the steepest, roughest degraded 4WD track that I have ever ridden. Took us a couple of hours to haul the bikes up, FINALLY we got to blacktop as the su set and we rode the last 20km into Blackbutt in the pitch black dark.
Yep that's the one. There were some bits that were very rutted out and I'm sure would have been impassable at the wrong time of year
@@weridebikesplaces we rode it in July 2018. The steep climb had huge boulders embedded in the 'track' and this was more due to the gradient and erosion from the few 4WDs that had accessed it, rather than the weather. Only place where I have been pushing the bike and came to an absolute stop due to boulders. I had to remove the front panniers to move the bike!
Come to Victoria if you really want to ride rail trails that are "pretty well kept and easy riding". Queensland rarely does this, and NSW has almost zero rail trails.
Looking forward to riding Victoria one day!
Sure like to know how you got from the airport into Bangkok.
It's not as bad as you'd think. From Don Mueng, you just have to do a little bit of freeway, then you can cross on an overpass, and get to some quieter back roads that take you down to Khao San area. There's a route GPS link in the video description 👍
It was great catching up with you both in Linville for a drink. It was definitely a highlight for Zane and I meeting you and talking all things Bikepacking. Look forward to seeing your future travels! Cheers.
Hey! Cheers for writing, we lost you guys when that rain storm hit.. we woke up in a pretty big puddle that morning.. was great to meet you both too, thoroughly enjoyed the bikepacking chat. Goodluck with the planned ride down to Sydney!
Very envious. I'm Thai. I've never had the opportunity to do something like this before. Very cool.
Thailand has been one of our favourite places to ride! Such a beautiful country, we will be back soon for sure. You should be very happy that you live there, it's an amazing place 🙌
Never enough peanut butter. Thanks for the video and hope you enjoy riding in Canada and the U.S.
Ha peanut butter is our life blood, goes on everything! Cheers, we're loving it here in Canada
Amazing content mate, thank you kindly, liked and subscribed. Two Canadians here looking to do this route in April/May 2025. Because we plan to go from Seoul to Busan and then take the boat on to Japan/other Asian countries, we won't be bringing our gravel bikes & gear. We have found a company to rent bikes, and have arranged to have our big backpacks dropped in Busan after we leave Seoul by bike. How easy do you think staying in love motels or regular motes/hotels along the entire way will be? We won't be camping as we'd be packing that gear through Asia, and in the end, while I'm sure it's fantastic, we have camped for many lives worth being from British Columbia Canada. Should reservations be done in advance? Also, do you think it would be easy to bike less or more KMs compared to the itinerary on a day and then in turn still have accommodation? Do you have a recommendation on the number of days/KMs to do it in? I understand this is probably quite a personal question depending on how strong of a rider someone is, but i'm just wondering if there is an optimal amount of KMs based on an itinerary perspective ( as in if certain sleeping accomadations/towns are spaced out better depending on number of KMs in a day) Thank you in advance!
Hey! Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 😊 So, Il try answer as best as possible but if any further info needed don't hesitate to ask. You could definitely do it just staying in the little motels etc, we met quite a few people doing it this way. I don't think advanced booking would be necessary, we never did for any of the places we stayed. We used the Korean map app "Kakao" to find accommodation, and also it has a bike route overlay on it. Probably a week to 10 days would be best. If your happy doing some days shorter and some longer, you'll always make it to a town with some accommodation options. Enjoy the microwave meals at the convenience stores too! They were honestly awesome. Totally understand about you guys not bothering with camping, as we are currently riding through BC! And it's the best camping ever! (We're sitting in our tent on the kettle valley rail trail right now) Where abouts in BC are you? Like I said any other questions please let me know. We also got the boat to Japan, and spent about a year riding around south east Asia. Cheers
Jakarta - bali 12 day but one day 100 km to go..
We took 4 weeks to ride from Jakarta to Bali, some days riding 50km, some 100km, with lots of days off to enjoy the food and culture along the way 😀
Fokus goweser Jakarta mekah😊
We have also cycled in Jakarta! 😀 We loved it. We rode from Jakarta to Lombok, Indonesia was an amazing place to ride through 👍 (we have another video of it)
I hear you on aussie drivers man. I've ridden that leg of the pacific highway from port mac to sydney a few times, and despite there being clear signs and markings that bikes are meant to ride on the highway shoulder, you get beeped and abused usually every day.
Yeah the mentality is a bit sad. It's by far the worst we've had from anywhere in the world. We get it on every type of road in Australia
@@weridebikesplaces To be fair the people hurling abuse are usually the dumbest of bogans, and yelling something out a car window before speeding away is probably the closest they've come to feeling like they've won a verbal exchange. Thanks for the videos mate. I'm planning a tour of indo soon and your videos have cemented my plans.
100% agree. Awesome mate Indo is great. So much good food, and friendly people. Enjoy 😊
I bet you 10 bucks that you miss Asian already ! I know I do ! It has been 13 years since I did a tour of Asia and there is not a day that goes past that I don't miss been able to stop anywhere and get something to eat or somewhere to spend the night and cheap as chips.
Ha yeah Asia was bike touring paradise! We're currently riding through Canada though which is pretty nice to say the least. Asia will be the first place we go back to though 👍
Can I ask, why do you wear such dark clothing without even a hi viz vest in such bad visibility weather as a minimum .
Unfortunately we just didn't have a high vis vest with us. I have a high vis helmet, and we always ride with front and rear lights on in those conditions
@@weridebikesplaces "unfortunately" not being seen is often the reason given for cyclists killed on roads by other road users. I personally carry a hi viz throw over for times that I'm not wearing hi viz clothing, day or night. In your video, it shows your hi viz helmet is ineffective while covered by your dark wet weather gear hood. With respect, I'm only saying this as I don't want to hear either or both of you being injured or worse while out riding on roads.
Yeah we were a bit underprepared for this section of our trip, and this much rain. After being in Asia for over a year we're used to drivers just looking out for other things like bikes on the road..
@@weridebikesplaces I understand. Many Australian road users drive with the wrong attitude and in a unsafe manner which means others have to cater for. Keep as safe as you can at all times. All the best on your travels.
@@johndee68 "I didn't see him" is the bogan driver's excuse. The real meaning of the phrase is "I was not actually LOOKING" or "I don't care about cyclists' lives" 😠 Plenty of people wearing hi-viz*, using reflective, and running good lights have been killed by negligent drivers. 'Stay Safer; Ride Wider!' * Often the hi-viz is just a lure to drivers who want to assault riders.
I enjoyed the video. I also think it's best to ride Seoul to Busan in the fall. Looking at the video, I should ride cross-country again this fall. 😊😊
Thanks! I think we'll be back to ride it that time of year some time too. Enjoy 😊
Were there dogs?? With all this herds.. how you dealt with the dogs?
There were some Sheppard dogs, but they would just run over to us barking, then stop 10 meters away, never really threatening, just wanted us to know they were in charge of that area so we kept riding 👍
@@weridebikesplaces thank you
More bike friendly countries equal happier, more relaxed, fitter, more free and healthier people. Thank you for sharing this beautiful scenery 🌳 ⛰️
For sure! It was such a pleasure to ride this route, so relaxed, and super happy 😊 glad you enjoyed it
Where is the best bubur ayam you've ever tried?
That's a tough one! Definitely somewhere on Java, probably just one of the little shops in the small towns whose names I forget. So many good ones with vendors who were always happy to see us. We realised the key was to get there as soon as they open to get it while it's fresh 🤤😁
Amazing. So calming. You guys do it thr right way. Not obsessing about expensive gear or covering miles. Just ride your bikes and enjoy thr experience. Really nice that those people invited you in their homes. Looks so nice having a nice camp by the fire and with a clear river. Even aome company from animals. Thank you so much dor the video. Really enjoyable to watch.
Thanks so much! Really glad you enjoyed the video. It was an unbelievable experience there, and yeah so good to be able to have a campfire by the river with animals wandering around, and all the friendly people. It's somewhere we will be going back to for sure
Would you do this trip midsummer? How bad is it during July? I hear that monsoons and heat can be extreme. But then the same could be said about mid summer in Italy, and it wasn't an issue for me.. Any suggestions are welcome
Hi! We rode it in September, which was quite hot and humid. It's definitely fine to ride during summer, but I'd prefer to do it in spring or autumn if I did it again. Mainly it just made the camping less pleasant, quite a few mosquitoes..
