  • Off road cycling through Northern Thailand's rural villages. From Chiang Mai, up to the border of Myanmar, through Pai, and back again. Mostly gravel riding, with plenty of hills, and plenty of adventure.

    Great video. Riding in Thailand, especially up north during the burning season is tough. Cheers!

      Thank you! Yeah the burning season really got to us in the end and we had to retreat back south. But loved northern Thailand and will be back for sure

      Yes it's a route that's published on bikepacking.com
      It's a great route, not sure it would be possible in rainy season but maybe fun to try! 😀

    It's the most fun adventure. But I wonder how you all know these country roads, they're amazing.

      The best adventure! We followed a route that some other people had ridden before, which was very helpful. We also use an app called Komoot which can help to find some great roads to ride 👍

    I travelled around Mae Sariang, Mae Sot, Pai and down the Burmese border in the back of a Toyota. Stunning roads, but way steep. Hats off to being able to cycle those inclines.

      Such an epic place to explore! Ha there was a lot of pushing up those inclines.. even some pushing/tumbling down it was that steep!

    Hi guys, love your videos! How do you plan which roads/route to take on your travels (gps, google maps, ..)? Many thanks and keep it up!

      Hi, thanks! It depends where we are. Some routes, like the Lanna kingdom, are set routes that people have riden and posted on bikepacking.com. and in some countries there are famous routes to ride like the 4 rivers in Korea, or adventure cycling routes in the US. In other places, we just look at points we want to go, and then map a route between them using the app komoot, and then double check the quality of the roads using google maps street view if possible.

    Great video and thank you for sharing! Smoke, heat and hills and I know you are understating just how difficult this route was. What did you use for navigation, especially on the smaller dirt road tracks?

    • @weridebikesplaces
      @weridebikesplaces  Год назад

      Thank you! It was such a good route, we really enjoyed it, even though it was super tough. We just used our phones, by loading the route into komoot and then saving it for use in offline mode. All the small roads there are pretty well marked though, and there's not many of them so navigation wasn't too much of an issue

    Can you do this without cooking and sleeping gear, relying instead in local lodging and food?

    • @weridebikesplaces
      @weridebikesplaces  Месяц назад

      @@chacmool2581 it could be possible, but you would need to do big days some of the time. If you look at the Lanna kingdom route advice on bikepacking.com, it will show you distances between towns, food and accommodation

    Hi
    Can i ask you what wifi provider you used for touring Thailand, did you use an esim or buy new sim cards
    cheers

      @weridebikesplaces  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi. We use True mobile Sims, not an E Sim. You can get them at any 7/11. Try not to get the "tourist Sim" as it's not as good value as the normal one, this will be the only one available at the airport so wait til your in the city to buy one 👍

    Amazing and Inspirational Video, what about dogs, how you guys tackle it while cycling ?

    • @weridebikesplaces
      @weridebikesplaces  Год назад

      Thank you! We generally just yell at them sternly, and if they are persistent, we've found that stopping usually works, as then they have nothing to chase. If that doesn't work, a squirt with the water bottle does the trick 😂

      Hey! Doing this loop next month. Just wondering if the dogs were aggressive? Wondering whether or not to get a rabies vaccine. Also, how were the mosquitos? Did you take malaria tablets the entire ride? Thanks! @@weridebikesplaces
