I live in a European country and my wife gave birth to our first child in a public hospital and our second child in a private hospital. The private one was significantly nicer. Much cleaner, better food, single room, private bathroom and so on. The whole experience cost us about 1700$. The public hospital wasn't AS good, but it was still decent. You had a shared room, the food wasn't as good, the bed wasn't as comfy, that sort of thing. The baby was born with a serious complication that required 1 month of intensive care. The whole experience, including the 1 month stay for my wife and our baby, was 0$. And the complication wasn't a result of the doctors messing up or anything, it was something that my wife was warned might happen. It's actually why we went with the public hospital in the first place, as we were informed that particular hospital was better equipped to deal with those sorts of complications.

Don't worry in Europe pretty much every hotel has AC, even in places where it's not common to have one in your home. It's mostly just houses/apartments in northern European countries that don't, if you go to southern Europe most people have AC in their homes

Using the excuse that Americans are too fat or lazy to walk or bike places is insane to me because how do you think we got that way? If walking and cycling are more convenient options, more people are going to choose those options, and eventually healthy habits will form. I see overweight old people regularly walking or taking transit for most of their errands all the time when I’m visiting European cities. We aren’t fat because we’re naturally lazy. We’re fat because our country incentivizes doing nothing physical all day.
