It's impossible to trust someone, cop or not, who is carrying a gun.

I used to walk to work every morning down dark alleys. Perfectly safe in the UK.

Our police officers are trained to disarm criminals without shooting them.

Gun control doesn't mean banning all guns. Nobody needs a military style gun for hunting, sport or self-defence. How can a young child's life not be worth gun control 🤯

There are no really dangerous places in the UK. There's not a single UK city where I would be afraid to go alone at night.

Police on patrol do not have guns. A few firearms units are trained to use them. My father was firearmz trained, but never needed a gun in his entire police career.

America has more than one mass shooting a week. Our last one was in 1996.

As of 31 July this year 473 people have been killed and 1,528 people have been wounded in 372 shootings in the USA and there have been 35 shooting incidents in schools in the USA. To us Brits it is totally un fathomable that this is acceptable. We had one mass shooting in a school in Dunblane and within about a year most guns were banned. 710 civilians have been shot by Police this year alone!

As far as I'm aware, British Transport Police (covering railways) carry guns, and some specialised units will have firearms training and have access to guns, but it is not part of the standard training for every officer.
Personally, when I do (rarely) see an armed cop, it makes me feel much less safe because it means that I'm in an unsafe area, as opposed to the vast majority of the UK where I feel completely safe to walk around alone, day or night.
That doesn't mean that I would walk carelessly around without a thought for personal safety. As a 5'3" female I have taken self defence classes, but I feel safe enough to walk through any street or alley or park in the country.

There's no real shortage of illegal firearms on the blackmarket (a ton of Makarovs were smuggled in in the 90's). The penalty for POSSESSION of a one is so stiff even if you never use it is 5 to 10 years. Most petty criminals don't want. Only specifically trained Armed Response Units carry firearms (usually H&K semi automatic) and they are usually driving around unless they get a call, so they're usually a few minutes away.

Is "desensitised" (or "desensitized" in American English) the word you were looking for at 11:18?

It's a well known fact that the USA has more guns than people.
Now I am in the UK, but My dad moved to Florida 45 years ago, when I was 5. So I have spent alot of time there, I spent 6 months of the year there. I don't agree with a gun ban. I have alot of experience with different guns. I didn't walk around the States with a gun and did feel safe. But when I would go riding in the woods I would carry a gun, not for the wildlife either. My dad made me carry it because I'm female and there was quit a few homeless people living in the woods.

Homeless people are just people. If you did get attacked whilst carrying a gun, the criminal would use the gun on you.

@@helenwood8482 very doubtful, I was trained very well. I know full well what homeless people are like I was homeless on the streets of London for 2 years. But I got clean and cleaned my act up.

safety is relative I am 6ft3 230 lbs and feel relatively safe anywhere but there are areas where safety becomes a concern but I know those areas and know the concerns are justified which is something i find to be true anywhere in the world.
As for guns the problem is not the gun it would appear to be the lack of sufficient checks and requirements in order to get a gun. Contrary to what people think you can get loads of different guns in the UK but you have to go through rigorous inspection provide proof of reason to purchase.
I suggest watching UK gun law explained on you tube i reckon you'll be surprised if not shocked

No town with guns in it is as safe as any place in the UK. You are 42 times more likely to be shot than I am.

Armed police are specialists. Specially trained and have annual reviews (which includes a psych evaluation). Ordinary police officers do not have access to guns except in exceptional circumstances. It's not that they don't want to take their gun, it's that they have no gun to take.

You have a low opinion of Americans. After Dunblane, gun nuts claimed the same things you said. None of it was true, we brought in gun control and it worked. If will for you too.

We are different people in Australia too. Children learn geography instead of active shooter drills. We are just more considerate of other people. More worried about our freedom stepping on your toes while the entire U.S has main character syndrome.
